Felix's eyes are lidded. However, he couldn't sleep for minutes. Then, he turned and faced Seren—she was facing straight at the wall.
"Hey, Seren?" Felix murmurs.
"Yes?" Seren replies and moves a bit.
"You couldn't sleep?"
Seren nods. "That's why…. You're so strict. Like, I just wanted you to accompany me while watching anime." She pouted.
Felix sighed. "Yeah, I apologize. But it's not like you wanted to watch an action anime either." He smirks and goes to his feet.
Seren pouted even more and let out a cute sound—hmph…. "Fine!" She turns around. "What are you doing?"
"I don't know…. I'm bored." Felix groping around the work table beside their bed. He finds the desk lamp, and… *switch. It turns on.
This house is very well furnitured and it's also quite roomy. I wonder how much it is worth…. But yeah, my father's mansion is a lot larger.
Felix ran his finger over the table and furrowed his brows at the slight dust. It's okay, I guess…. I don't have the energy for a cleanup.
Felix wipes his hand against his thighs. "Ima do the letter. I bet it's important since it was from Mr. Friedrich."
"Ehh!? How did you know?" Seren spontaneously gets up.
Felix pulled a chair under the table, "Well…," and sat down. I forgot to mention it to her…. "Mr. Friedrich said so at the hospital."
"Ohh…." Seren stood up and shooed Felix to give her a space to sit on. Yeah, she's the boss; so move aside. He moved aside, and she sat on it. "I've underestimated this thing."
Felix was a bit irritated but just winged it. He turns his full attention back to the letter on the table he had placed before. He aligns his hands as if he's about to write something. Akh! My bad. He thought.
"Seren, can you take a pen and 2 pieces of paper from my backpack? You can tear one from my notebook for it."
"Really? I just sat down, you knooow." Seren said frustratedly.
However, she's obedient. She gets up and searches for the stationery.
"It's in the smaller pocket." Felix said.
"Found it!" Seren raises the stationeries. She walks back and sits at the same spot. "Here!" She said sweetly.
Felix took it and got back to work. "Thanks."
On one of the papers, he wrote down:
A ↔ Z
B ↔ Y
C ↔ X
D ↔ W
E ↔ V
F ↔ U
G ↔ T
H ↔ S
I ↔ R
J ↔ Q
K ↔ P
L ↔ O
M ↔ N
"Okay, done. Now I just need to start."
"Uhmm…" Seren analyzes the writing. "Oh! It was like that…." She nods in comprehension.
Felix decodes each letter one by one on the other paper accordingly. The first word is Wvzi, which translates to Dear. And then, Uvorc, which translates to Felix. So, it was 'Dear Felix,'. On the other hand, Seren watches as if she's a little curious kid.
After quite a while, he had completed the first sentence, it translates to: This is an official letter from the Federal Minister of Defense, Friedrich Schildmann.
"Ohh… it really is from Mr. Friedrich…." Seren said while holding back her sleepiness; she yawned.
"Just go to bed, already. It's not like this is a fun job." Felix said.
"It's okay. It was just a random yawn." Seren declines.
"Fine, then."
He continued and made it to the halfway point of the second sentence: We would like to announce something to you; He furrows his brows in wonder.
Thus, the continuation of it was: after a long time of consideration, we've come to a conclusiom…. When he was about to rewrite and replace the 'm' to 'n' as should, Seren leaned her head against his shoulder.
Felix stopped his pen; slightly blushed, he saw a strand of hair run over Seren's cheek. So he tucked it behind her ear. She was asleep helplessly on his shoulder. Her face was serene even when sleeping like that. Thus, he got up carefully; still holding Seren in her position. Then, he lifted her gently like a princess—he didn't struggle to lift her at all.
Felix just stood there, admiring Seren's beautiful yet adorable features in the dark—only the desk lamp is the background light. But then, he takes a step closer to their bed. He decreases Seren slowly against the bed.
After that, he covers her with a soft and furry blanket to her shoulders. He gave her a gentle stroke on her hair, and then he got back to work.
He decoded silently. But then, after only several letters, his eyes widen, his expression changes drastically and lets out a gasp—he seems to worry, nervous, and surprised at the same time. Y-you're kidding…. He continues even though his hands are quite shaky. He has to finish the whole text.
After several minutes of writing, it was done: Regards, Friedrich Schildmann was the last sentence. Thus, he's on his feet, and he tidies the papers up and places them inside the drawer. He turned the desk lamp off and went straight to bed close to Seren. His vision adapts to the darkness of the room. He stares at the ceiling, his eyes showing a hint of worry and tiredness.
He raises a hand up as if trying to reach upward. I have to…. He bites his lip. But then, he doesn't feel like thinking about it and lets out a sigh. He pulls down his hand and looks at Seren, I have to. For her, she's the only one I have. He ponders. He knows that Seren is already a good enough reason to fight.
Thus, he closes his eyes, and consciousness begins to fade. He sleeps without even thinking to pull on a blanket for himself.
