Chapter 17 - CHAPTER 17

The night passed in a blink of an eye, and before you knew it, I was outside with Cyrus parking my things into a truck, and yes, I had to miss work again.

Seriously, this guy is robbing off on me in the wrong way.

Well, it's not like I could do anything about it, so...

"How do you know him?" I asked, referring to the man who was helping carry my things into his truck.

"He is a friend of my dad. I told him not to worry, but he said he'll drive it himself, so here we are," he replied, making me nod.

After we were done carrying the things to the truck, I got into Cyrus, and now we were on our way to his place.

Who knew one day I would be going to stay at a guys place? Scratch that who knew one day I would be getting married a contracted marriage at that everything is happening so fast.

"Did you look for anything else after I left?"

I knew he was referring to the photos. So I shook my head.

"You're not telling me anything, and for some reason, someone is trying to hide whoever those people are," I replied. He just chuckled at my words.

"Well, it's not like the truth is going to disappear somewhere you'll find out soon enough," he replied. I just rolled my eyes at his words.

Yeah, right...

The rest of the drive was silent. I just stared out the window and watched as we passed by different houses before finally coming to a halt.

"Wow" was all I could say cause this house was everything.

It didn't just look expensive — it looked like it had its own PR team. The place was ridiculous, in the kind of way that made you question your entire life. Wide glass windows reflected the night sky, sleek and spotless, and the lights spilling from inside made the whole house glow like it was posing for an architecture magazine. The driveway stretched long enough to hold a parade, and every inch of the place screamed money — quiet, confident, old-money kind of money.

"I really didn't think you were the extravagant type," I muttered loud enough for him to hear.

"Oh really?" he replied, chuckling.

I slowly got out of the car, taking in the house properly this time. Even the air around here smelled expensive — like cedarwood and good decisions. It's not like I knew how that smelt.

I have seen my fair share of extravagant houses. I mean, mine wasn't too bad, but compared to this, i was living in a forest.

"Come on, let's take your things inside," Cyrus said, pulling me with him.

I took a box from the truck and headed in, and I was even more shocked.

The moment I stepped inside, I forgot how to breathe for a second.

The interior was worse — or better, depending on how much self-esteem you had left. The living room looked like something out of a design catalogue. Everything was so coordinated that it almost made me uncomfortable. The marble floors gleamed like they'd been polished by angels, a chandelier hung overhead dripping with crystals, and the couches looked like they cost more than my company.

There was art on the walls too — the kind that didn't just say "I'm cultured" but screamed it. Subtle, modern, probably imported from somewhere that required customs paperwork.

"You actually live here?" I asked, setting the box down a little too carefully, like even the air might break something.

Cyrus chuckled. "Where else would I live?"

I gestured vaguely around the massive room. "I don't know… a normal house? One that doesn't look like a museum where touching things is a crime?"

He grinned. "Guess I like my crimes a little more stylish."

I didn't know what to say after that I just shook my head.

Is it too late to go back home?

"Gosh, I'm tired," I said, falling on the couch o was too tired to be bothered about the price of the couch.

We spent almost half of the day arranging my stuff. Cyrus showed me my room because obviously we were not going to sleep together, and for some reason, I felt bad about that.

After that we started fixing my things in I told him some stuff I wanted to remove from his place because if I was going to stay here I needed to be comfortable and surprisingly he agreed no questions asked which was odd but fine by me.

"Should I prepare something for to eat?" I heard Cyrus say beside me I turned to look at him.

"You can cook?" I asked, which was surprising

"Why are you acting surprised? Have you forgotten I stayed out of the country? I did almost everything myself," he replied a little offended.

But still...

"Aren't you tired? Let's just oder something to eat, " i replied

I don't know if he was just acting tough or he really was tough, but anybody would be so tired after what we just did, but here he was asking if he should cook for me.

"Done it will be here any minute now," he said, and I just nodded
