The two sets of sharp claws collided mid-air, the crisp sound ringing like steel weapons striking each other.
Both figures froze in midair.
"Even if it's sparring, you still have to be serious!"
Ghost Girl shouted, angrily slashing again and again, each strike filled with hostility.

This hit Ethen's weak point.
He simply wasn't as skilled with claws as Ghost Girl.

"No! It'd be such a waste to escape now! I'll hypnotize you, make you my warrior, and conquer this planet!!"
She declared it fiercely—
Though her expression was clearly unnatural.
"…Has she still not broken free from the illusion?"
Ghostfreak folded his arms, staring at Ghost Girl in confusion.
Ghost Girl stood completely still, her face red.
Ever since Ghostfreak countered with his illusion—

She looked kind of cute.

Ghost Girl froze.
Her expression changed dramatically.
She immediately phased into the ground—
Refusing to come out no matter what.
"Hey, hey, come on…" Ghostfreak laughed helplessly.
"You don't need to be that upset just because you lost. And honestly… you were pretty interesting just now."
Only when the transformation ended did Ethen cancel it—
Retrieving Ghost Girl from inside the watch.
"Ah—this feels amazing. My true form is even stronger than a Love Watch alien. And if we fight together… We'd be terrifying."
Ethen stretched comfortably.
But then—
He sighed deeply.
This watch was way too good.
Which meant—
It was definitely insanely expensive.

The car door creaked open.
Ben stepped out slowly.

Ben raised his wrist.

"I… I want to change my Omnitrix!!"
He pulled a screwdriver from his pocket and aimed it at the Omnitrix—
Then stopped.
"…No. I admit I mess things up sometimes. If I mess with this, I might destroy it completely… Unless I use a smart alien."
He tapped the Omnitrix and selected Gray Matter.
Whoosh!
Green light flashed.
Gray Matter fumbled around, locating the Omnitrix symbol on his back by touch.
He carefully wedged the screwdriver against the ground.
Then he twisted his body—
Catching the Omnitrix clasp on the screwdriver!
Gray Matter rotated and twisted.
The screwdriver turned.
The Omnitrix symbol rotated with it.
"Hahaha!! I'll use the smartest alien to Gray Matter the Omnitrix open!"
Gray Matter laughed wildly.
"I, Ben Tennyson, am a genius!!"
Click.
After a moment—
The infinite receiver popped off the Omnitrix screen.
Thud.
It fell and was caught by Gray Matter.
"I really am a genius!"
But the next second—
The receiver began emitting green light.
"…Huh?"
Gray Matter froze.
His hands started crystallizing.
Panicking, he dropped the receiver.
It rolled into the swamp.
He rushed over, scooped it up, and threw it onto the grass.
"Oh no… This thing emits DNA contamination! And it already touched my hands!"
Normally—
The receiver blocked genetic contamination.
But now—
The exposed side had fallen into the swamp.
Gurgle… gurgle…
Bubbles rose violently.
Something felt wrong.
Gray Matter hesitated, then stopped.

"Whatever—I'll gamble!"
He twisted the screwdriver to the right.
"Triggering… Protector Mode."
Deep green light exploded outward.
DNA waves surged across the swamp!
RUMBLE!!
The entire swamp was flooded with DNA radiation.
Inside the car—
"Wait—Gwen, don't open the door!"
Grandpa Max slammed the brakes.
He stared out the window—
Ready to kill someone with his eyes.
The waves slowly dissipated.
"…Oh. So right means Protector Mode."
Gray Matter smiled awkwardly.
Whoosh!
His transformation ended.
He reverted back.
"Ben Tennyson." Grandpa Max opened the door slowly.
"…What did you just do?"
"Haha… Grandpa…" Ben trembled.
"N-nothing."
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Ethen rushed back.
"Grandpa! There was a massive DNA reaction in the swamp! I was hit—almost mutated!"
He raised his arm.
For a moment—
It looked like Ripjaws skin.
Then it faded.
DNA couldn't erode a max-level human.
"Ben!! What did you do?!"
Gwen and Grandpa Max demanded together.
Ethen stepped behind Ben—
And saw the receiver on the ground.
And the exposed Omnitrix screen.
Silence fell.
Something had gone very, very wrong.
