Chapter 116 - Chapter 115: Himawari’s Birthday

"Minato, I'm a little excited…"

Kushina clung to Minato's arm, her body trembling slightly.

"Yeah, me too, Kushina," Minato replied softly.

"Just thinking about actually meeting Naruto, Hinata, Himawari, and Boruto… not just secretly watching them like before—I can't help it," she said, her eyes reddening, voice choked with emotion.

"That's right," Minato said gently, taking her hand. "We missed so much. This time, we'll make it up to them properly."

"Minato, I'm really looking forward to it…" Kushina whispered. "I can't wait for Naruto to call me Mom—and for Boruto and Himawari to call me Grandma."

"You will, Kushina."

Minato smiled and wrapped his arm around her shoulders, already imagining the long-awaited reunion.

"But still, I'm only twenty-four and already being called Grandma… it feels kind of weird," Kushina said with a helpless laugh.

"Yeah, it does sound strange," Minato admitted, scratching his head.

"Damn Obito… if it weren't for him, we could've watched Naruto grow up—seen him get married, have kids…" Kushina's voice was filled with bitterness and regret.

"Obito…" Minato fell silent.

In the bustling mall of Konoha Village, colorful lights illuminated shopfronts as crowds flowed through the streets, filling the place with laughter and chatter.

Sarada walked ahead, holding Sumire's hand, while Boruto followed lazily behind with his hands tucked behind his head.

"Boruto, what do you think about this as a birthday gift for Himawari?"

Sarada held up a delicate hairpin, inlaid with tiny sparkling gems that shimmered under the lights.

"Hm… it's nice. I'm sure Himawari will love it," Boruto said with a smile.

"Then I'll take this one," Sarada said, turning to Sumire.

But throughout the walk, Sumire had barely spoken. She kept her head down, clutching her shopping bag tightly, her face faintly flushed.

Her heart was pounding.

She couldn't stop thinking about meeting Boruto's mother—the gentle, powerful, and respected woman of Konoha, Hinata Uzumaki.

Would Hinata dislike her? Would she disapprove of her friendship with Boruto? What if she thought Sumire wasn't good enough?

These worries swirled in her mind, making her feel nervous in a way she'd never experienced before.

"Sumire, are you okay? You look kind of pale," Sarada asked softly, noticing her unease.

Sumire forced a small smile. "N-no, I'm fine. Just… a little nervous about meeting Boruto's mom."

Sarada understood instantly and smiled reassuringly.

"Don't worry. Hinata-Aunt is super kind. She won't mind at all."

"Besides, you're sweet, beautiful, and polite—she'll definitely like you."

Sarada's words warmed Sumire's heart. She took a deep breath and nodded, her nerves slowly easing.

By the time they finished shopping, she'd picked out a simple but elegant bracelet as her birthday gift for Himawari.

As night fell, Boruto led Sarada and Sumire to the Hokage residence.

Sumire, who had just begun to relax, froze again at the sight of the door.

"Sarada… I'm still nervous," she whispered.

"It's fine, Sumire," Sarada reassured her, giving her hand a light squeeze. "I'm right here. We'll go in together."

Boruto turned around, giving her a grin. "Don't worry, my mom's super gentle. She's gonna love you."

Encouraged by their words, Sumire finally took a deep breath and followed as Boruto opened the door.

"I'm home!" he called out.

Warm light filled the room. A delicious aroma drifted from the kitchen, and a beautifully set dinner table awaited them.

Himawari sat on the sofa, her face glowing with excitement.

"Boruto, you're back!" she shouted.

Hinata appeared with a gentle smile. She noticed Sarada and the shy girl beside her. "Oh, Sarada's here too—and this is…?"

"Hello, Hinata-sama. I'm… I'm Boruto's friend, Sumire Kakei," Sumire stammered, bowing deeply.

Hinata looked at the blushing girl, and for a moment, she saw her younger self—nervous, shy, and earnest.

With a soft smile, Hinata lifted her up gently.

"No need to be so formal. Just call me Aunt Hinata. Welcome to our home."

Feeling the warmth in Hinata's tone, Sumire's tension began to melt away.

"Come in, make yourselves comfortable," Hinata said, ushering them inside.

Himawari jumped up from the sofa as they entered.

"Big Brother! Sarada-sister!"

Her gaze landed curiously on Sumire. "Brother, who's she?"

Boruto chuckled. "This is Sumire. She's my friend."

"Hello, Himawari," Sumire said shyly, holding out a small gift box. "Happy Birthday."

"Wow! For me?" Himawari squealed, taking the box. "Thank you, Sumire-sister!"

Sarada stepped forward and handed her own present.

"This one's from me too, Himawari. Hope you like it."

"Thank you, Sarada-sister!" Himawari beamed.

Even Krab brought a tiny plush fox and offered it to her.

Himawari gasped. "Aww, it's so cute! Thank you, Krab!"

Hinata smiled at the sight.

But when Himawari glanced around, she frowned.

"Mom, where's Dad? Why isn't he here yet?"

Hinata gently patted her head.

"He's still handling something important, but he'll be back soon, okay? Let's celebrate first."

Dinner was warm and cheerful. The family and guests laughed, chatted, and shared stories.

Even Sumire relaxed completely, smiling alongside Hinata, Sarada, and Himawari as if she'd always belonged there.

Hinata asked about Sumire's hobbies and training, listening with patient interest and gentle warmth that reminded Sumire of her own mother.

Just then, the front door opened quietly.

Naruto stepped inside, wiping a bit of sweat from his forehead.

"Father!" Himawari shouted joyfully, running to him. "Look! Everyone brought me presents!"

Naruto knelt down, smiling tenderly. "Really? My little Himawari's so popular."

"Hello, Hokage-sama," Sarada greeted respectfully.

"Hi, Naruto-uncle," Boruto added with a grin.

Naruto's eyes softened when he looked at Sumire.

"Sumire, you don't have to be so formal here," he said warmly. "Just call me Uncle Naruto."

Sumire nodded quickly, face flushed. "Y-yes, Naruto-uncle."

"Himawari, the cake's ready!" Hinata announced, carrying out a large, beautifully decorated cake.

"It's so big!" Himawari exclaimed, eyes sparkling.

Naruto smiled proudly. "Alright, everyone—Himawari's birthday party officially begins!"

But then—

Poof!

A puff of smoke erupted, and Naruto vanished—his clone dispersing into thin air.

The cake began to fall, but Boruto instantly caught it midair with his Gravity Jutsu, setting it safely on the table.

Everyone froze.

"Shadow Clone…" Sarada and Sumire murmured at the same time.

They hadn't expected the Hokage to send only a clone—and for it to disperse before the celebration even began.

Himawari stared blankly at the spot where her father had been. Her bright smile faded.

The room fell silent.

Hinata's heart ached at the sight. She walked over and hugged her daughter tightly.

"I'm sorry, Himawari. Your father loves you very much. He must've had something urgent to take care of."

Himawari sniffled. "Mom…"

Boruto sighed. "Geez, Dad… that's too much."

Just then—knock, knock.

Himawari froze. Her eyes widened.

"Father?"

She ran to the door and opened it—

Standing there were Kushina, Minato, and Jiraiya, smiling warmly at her.

Himawari blinked, stunned.

"Grandpa… Grandma…?"
