Chapter 132 - Chapter 131: You Tell Me to Go East, but I Won’t Go West!

"So, I think my wife is very likely a demon. I'm asking you to protect me and my child!"

The middle-aged man's voice trembled as he continued, "I can pay an advance of 100,000 yuan right now. If you can resolve this matter, I'll pay another 200,000 after it's done!"

Song Jie listened silently, already piecing together what this case was about.

The Scaled Hide Demon Mother incident!

He remembered this case from before—it was the same one that Mo Fan and Lingling had taken on in the original story.

That meant Mo Fan would soon appear at the Qingtian Hunter Agency.

"Alright, we'll take this commission," Old Bao said calmly. "Please leave your address and other information. We'll send someone to handle it."

"Thank you all so much!" the man said gratefully before writing down his information and leaving.

Once he was gone, Old Bao turned toward Song Jie and Lingling. "This commission will be yours."

Lingling frowned slightly. "We still have one case unfinished. We probably won't get to this one until tomorrow."

"Then finish what you're working on first," Old Bao said. "I'll assign someone to keep an eye on that location in the meantime."

"Understood."

Lingling nodded, then raised her head toward Song Jie. "Let's finish this commission quickly so we can take the next one!"

Recently, Lingling was actually enjoying herself. Taking on missions with Song Jie was far more fun than going to school and dealing with annoying classmates and teachers.

"Alright." Song Jie smiled and nodded.

The two left the Qingtian Hunter Agency together, heading toward the city center.

"Song Jie," Lingling asked as they walked, "do you have any plans for what you'll do next?"

Working with him made her feel relaxed and secure. No matter the danger, as long as Song Jie was there, she didn't have to worry.

"I'll probably be in the Demon City for a while," Song Jie replied.

Lingling nodded, satisfied with the answer.

That meant they could keep taking bounty missions together!

The next day at noon, after completing their current mission, Song Jie and Lingling returned to the Qingtian Hunter Agency to rest.

Just then, Song Jie received a message from Mu Lei.

When he opened it, several pictures of beautiful girls popped up.

[Mu Lei: Song Jie, don't say your brother never looks out for you. These are the campus belles from the Main Campus.]

Song Jie scrolled through the photos—each girl had her own charm.

There were pure ones, fiery ones, and even one who looked like a hunxue'er—a mixed-blood beauty!

His eyes lingered on her photo. She had long, waterfall-like black hair, a delicate Western-style face, and deep brown eyes unique to Huaxia.

In terms of looks, she was the perfect picture of an innocent foreign loli.

Lingling, sitting beside him, tilted her head and caught a glimpse of the photo.

"So that's your type, huh? Pervert," she said flatly.

"Ahem…" Song Jie coughed awkwardly. "What do kids like you know? Go away."

Lingling shot him a cold look and turned back to her keyboard, typing rapidly.

[Song Jie: What's your point, brat? Out with it.]

[Mu Lei: Help me vote for Number 5—the mixed-blood campus belle!]

[Song Jie: Get lost.]

[Mu Lei: Roger that!]

Song Jie shook his head in amusement and put his phone away.

A few moments later, the door to the agency opened.

A young man stepped inside.

Lingling glanced up. "Do you need a commission? The starting price is 300,000 yuan. We don't take small jobs for cats or dogs under that amount."

Mo Fan's mouth twitched. Who was this little girl? She just blurted out 300,000 like it was pocket change!

But then his eyes fell on a familiar figure sitting nearby.

"Brother Jie!" Mo Fan exclaimed, hurrying over to Song Jie.

Song Jie had been enjoying his break, only to be suddenly interrupted. Looking up, he wasn't surprised—it was about time this happened in the timeline.

"Brother Jie, what are you doing here?" Mo Fan asked.

Lingling blinked, curious. "You know him?"

"Oh, we were classmates back in Bo City," Song Jie explained. "Now he's also at Pearl Institute."

Lingling said lightly, "Since you two know each other, I'll reluctantly give you a 0.1% discount."

Mo Fan froze. "What's the difference between that and no discount at all…?"

"I'm not here for a commission," Mo Fan said quickly. "I'm here for an interview. The Hunter Union sent me with a letter of recommendation."

Just then, Old Bao came out of the back room. "Are you here for a commission?" he asked.

Mo Fan straightened immediately. "Hello, sir. I'm here to apply for a position."

"Apply for a job?" Old Bao raised an eyebrow and studied him carefully.

Before he could continue, Lingling's sharp eyes noticed movement outside.

"Grandpa," she whispered, "a fat sheep."

Old Bao turned just as a flustered woman hurried into the agency.

"Hello, are you here for a commission?" he asked.

"Yes," the woman said, breathing heavily.

"Then please, sit down and tell us what you'd like to commission," Old Bao replied.

Song Jie glanced at her. He already knew exactly what this case was.

This woman was the wife of the man who had come earlier—they both suspected each other of cheating and had separately come to Qingtian Hunter Agency for help.

"You suspect your husband is a murderer?" Old Bao asked with a sigh. "I'm afraid we can't help you with that."

"Why not?" she demanded.

"For that kind of case, you should go to the police," Old Bao said calmly. "We're short on staff and can't take it."

"You—!" The woman's face darkened. She muttered something under her breath and stormed out angrily.

Mo Fan frowned. "She looked pitiful. Why didn't you help her?"

Old Bao smiled faintly. "Young man, you can't judge things at a glance. Take a look at this."

He handed Mo Fan a document.

When Mo Fan opened it, he immediately noticed something—the address matched the woman's.

They were husband and wife!

"Since our agency already accepted the husband's commission," Old Bao said, sipping his tea, "we can't take the wife's. That would be a conflict of interest."

Mo Fan nodded. "That makes sense."

Old Bao smiled. "You're from Bo City, right? Your name's Fan Mo?"

"Mo Fan," he corrected politely.

Old Bao nodded, then turned to Song Jie and Lingling. "We have a newcomer here. Why don't you two show him the ropes?"

Lingling looked Mo Fan up and down. He didn't seem especially bright.

"I think Song Jie and I are working pretty well together already," she said bluntly.

"We don't get new recruits often," Old Bao replied. "You're going to handle that man's commission soon anyway. Bringing him along will be helpful."

Lingling crossed her arms but said nothing. Instead, she looked toward Song Jie.

Mo Fan quickly added, "Brother Jie, as long as you let me join, if you tell me to go east, I'll never go west!"

Song Jie sighed inwardly.

Since Mo Fan had already said that much, he couldn't refuse.

Besides, having Mo Fan join would make things… interesting.

He nodded. "Alright. You can tag along."
