"Meow~~" The Little Black Cat softly meowed, reporting the mixed-blood girl's whereabouts to Song Jie.
"You mean… she's in this building too?" Song Jie asked.
The cat nodded.
Song Jie turned to Mo Fan. "Mo Fan, protect Lingling here. I'll be back soon."
"Alright."
Following the Little Black Cat's lead, Song Jie took the elevator several floors up.
Before long, he arrived outside the mixed-blood girl's apartment.
"This is it?" Song Jie asked quietly.
The cat nodded again.
Song Jie leaned close to the door, listening carefully. A sudden thud echoed from inside — something had fallen.
He frowned. Just as he was deciding what to do, a middle-aged woman came stomping down the hall, a clothes hanger in hand and an angry look on her face.
"Are you the tenant here?" she demanded.
Song Jie shook his head and stepped aside to let her through.
The woman ignored him and began banging on the door.
"Open up! What are you doing in there every day? Making such a racket—do you really think I'm easy to bully?!"
Despite her shouting, there was still no response from inside.
Song Jie realized she was just a neighbor, disturbed by the noise.
"Big sister," he asked, "does this room make strange noises often?"
"Not every day," she huffed, "but when it does, it's louder every time! Who could sleep through that?!"
Song Jie frowned, his suspicions deepening.
After knocking for a while with no reply, the woman muttered angrily and went off to find property management.
Song Jie pressed his ear to the door again — still the sound of things falling.
After thinking it over, he made his decision. That mixed-blood girl might be connected to the Shedding Demon.
Using his Shadow Element ability inherited from the Little Black Cat, Song Jie turned into a shadow and slipped silently under the door.
Inside, the lights were off. The room was dim and messy.
In the center of the living room, a figure was slumped on the floor surrounded by overturned furniture and scattered objects.
Song Jie cautiously approached, ready for anything.
But suddenly—
The figure jerked her head up, revealing blood-red, demonic eyes staring straight at him!
The instant their gazes met, Song Jie felt a chill rush down his spine. His instincts screamed danger.
In a flash, his Star Chart appeared in his mind, and a Level Six Holy Shield enveloped his entire body.
The owner of those crimson eyes lunged forward, slamming her fist into the barrier.
Boom!
A shockwave exploded through the room, shaking the air like a storm. The Holy Shield held firm, but the wall behind Song Jie crumbled apart!
On the other side of that wall, a young couple who had been testing a rather creative pose froze in shock.
"What the hell—?!"
Before they could react further, Song Jie shouted, "Run!"
They saw the blood-red eyes glowing behind him and bolted out of the apartment without a second thought.
The red-eyed figure didn't pursue them. Her focus remained locked on Song Jie — his blood smelled far more enticing than theirs.
Light from the neighboring apartment spilled in, revealing her face.
"You're that mixed-blood girl…" Song Jie's eyes widened in disbelief.
But her current appearance was horrifying — her eyes were crimson, her lips curled to reveal sharp, gleaming fangs.
"She's… a vampire?!" Song Jie exclaimed.
Even more shocking was her aura — intense, heavy, and oppressive. She was at least Commander-level!
The girl extended her hands, her nails elongating into curved, blade-like claws that screeched against the Holy Shield.
A suffocating stench of blood filled the air.
"Thank goodness my Holy Shield rivals super-tier defense," Song Jie muttered. "Otherwise, I'd already be shredded."
He studied her movements. She'd lost all reason, attacking blindly — no trace of humanity left.
She's gone berserk… completely overtaken by her bloodline!
Song Jie hesitated. Using high-tier offensive magic here could cause massive collateral damage. But if he let her escape, innocent lives would be at risk.
He gritted his teeth, readying himself.
The mixed-blood girl suddenly roared, exposing her bloodstained fangs.
That gave Song Jie an idea. He quickly pulled out a Blood Relic from his spatial bracelet and hurled it straight into her mouth.
The feral girl bit down hard — crack! — the relic shattered, and the thick red liquid gushed down her throat.
Instantly, her expression twisted in agony. She staggered back, clutching her head as a crimson aura burst from her body, flooding the entire room in a storm of blood energy.
Song Jie shielded his face from the wave. "Looks like it's working…" he murmured in relief.
He'd originally planned to use the Blood Relic against powerful demon beasts — it was supposed to overload their bodies and make them explode.
He hadn't expected it to stabilize her instead.
After all, Mo Fan had survived absorbing one by sheer luck. There shouldn't have been another who could endure it.
The girl screamed as blood tears streamed from her eyes. Her long red hair slowly turned black again. The fangs and claws retracted, and the demonic aura around her faded away like mist.
Song Jie finally exhaled. The relic's power had taken effect.
When it was over, the mixed-blood girl had returned to her original form — the same face Song Jie had seen earlier that day.
She looked at him weakly, gratitude flickering in her eyes, before collapsing to the floor.
"She survived the Blood Relic... that means she's assimilated it," Song Jie muttered, studying her. "Could she have gained the Demon Element's power as well?"
The girl's lips trembled. "Can you… take me away?" she asked faintly.
Song Jie frowned. Taking her away would be risky — if she lost control again, the consequences would be catastrophic.
She seemed to understand what he was thinking. Her situation was dire; if other mages discovered her condition, she'd be captured and dissected for research.
Just then, the Little Black Cat padded silently into the room and rubbed against Song Jie's leg.
The girl noticed and whispered weakly, "You… have the Summoning Element?"
