Chapter 13: Someone jumped off the building again?

It was already past midnight, and Matthias Engel quietly exited the live stream.

He opened the Steam Platform, and the sales had surprisingly already reached 30,000 copies, which was quite incredible.

Currently, he still had a debt of 10 million, and selling another 10,000 copies would allow him to clear his debt.

The thought alone made him feel completely relaxed.

Additionally, the NGA Annual Game Awards were two months away, and winning games would also receive substantial rewards.

Actually, he felt that this award was something he could definitely go for.

If the game could be recognized by players worldwide, then sales would also surge.

He was hungry, so he decided to grab a late-night snack.

Matthias arrived on the street.

Even though it was night, the street in his German city was still bustling; this was when the nightlife truly began.

He ordered some skewers and a fruit drink, sitting there alone and eating.

Just then, a commotion erupted ahead.

A crowd of people gathered, pointing and gesticulating upwards.

"Look, someone's standing on the rooftop!"

"They must be distraught and want to jump."

"Quick, call the police! Someone's going to jump!"

Matthias, holding his skewers, moved closer and looked up.

A figure stood on the edge of the building; though somewhat blurry in the night, it was clearly a living human.

Another person wanted to jump.

Before he transmigrated, this body had also chosen to jump, unable to bear the pressure.

Some in the crowd were egging them on.

"Jump already, don't dawdle!"

"I think they're just doing it for attention!"

"Wants to jump but doesn't, how boring."

These words, like knives, reached the ears of the person on the rooftop, and his body seemed to sway precariously.

After some thought, Matthias decided to go up.

It might not be useful, but he didn't want to see someone follow in his old footsteps.

He took the elevator to the top floor.

There were already more than a dozen hotel staff members standing on the balcony.

"Sir, don't be rash!"

"Let's talk things over, don't take your own life!"

Another staff member, trembling, muttered softly, "Damn it, why choose our hotel to jump from? If something happens, we're finished!"

If someone jumped from the hotel and word got out, the hotel would be ruined.

Standing on the edge of the balcony was a slightly overweight middle-aged man, wearing glasses and a suit, with snot running down his face.

"Everything's gone, I have nothing left, living is just a torment for me!"

The man's voice was a roar, his mind on the verge of collapse.

Matthias sighed and strode forward.

A staff member tried to stop him: "Sir, you?"

"I'll try to talk to him."

The staff made way, and Matthias walked to a spot five meters from the man.

The man roared, "Don't come closer! Please, I just want to vent, and then say goodbye to this world!"

Matthias paused: "There's hope as long as you're alive."

"No hope, I have nothing left!"

"So, before you say goodbye to this world, can you tell me what you've been through? I'd like to listen, at least to share some of your pain."

The man looked dazed: "My company went bankrupt, my wife ran off with someone, and I still have 20 million in debt."

Matthias was taken aback; this guy's situation was somewhat similar to his own.

Except Matthias's girlfriend ran off, while his wife did.

"Then you never tried to make a comeback?"

"I tried, and failed again. I've been blacklisted for dishonesty, and none of my former friends are willing to lend me money. Haha, when things were good, I was surrounded by friends, but when I'm down, no one wants to bother with me."

At this moment, someone recognized the man.

"I know him, isn't he Carl Heinze, the former CEO of Gemini Entertainment Company that went bankrupt a while ago?"

"Yes, I remember he used to make several celebrities famous, then suddenly went bankrupt."

"I heard he was set up, and his wife ran off with a model mistress, taking all the money."

"That's pretty tragic. Lost his money and was cuckolded."

Matthias took a deep breath: "Your situation is indeed sympathetic, but what can you change by jumping? What about your parents?"

At the thought of his parents, Carl Heinze burst into tears: "I'm sorry to them, but I have no choice. The pressure on me is too great, I can't feel the meaning of living!"

With that, Carl Heinze walked to the edge of the building, one foot already suspended in the air.

"Wait, I can help you change this situation!"

"Even you can't change it. I'm at the end of my rope, I don't even have the qualifications to make a comeback."

"I can give you the capital to make a comeback!"

Matthias's words gradually calmed Carl Heinze down.

"I know you want to save me, thank you, stranger. At least with you, I feel some warmth."

"I'm not trying to save you, I'm looking for an opportunity to cooperate with you. Didn't you used to run an entertainment company? This time, I'll invest, and we'll open a new company. Are you willing?"

Carl Heinze's expression gradually became calm.

"There's no such thing as a free lunch in this world."

"It's not a free lunch; you'll also have to put in work. I'll provide the capital, and you'll manage the company. We'll split the shares fifty-fifty. Are you willing to do it?"

"Really?"

"Am I going to lie to you? What do you have that's worth me lying about?"

"That's right, I have nothing left."

"If you trust me, then don't get close to the edge of the building anymore. Let's go downstairs to the coffee shop and discuss the new company."

Carl Heinze was still hesitating.

Matthias understood that his current hesitation meant he had new hope.

"Don't mind the instigation of the people below; they are merely spectators in your life. Trust me, this is your only chance to turn things around."

Under Matthias's repeated persuasion, Carl Heinze finally came down.

After coming down, Carl Heinze collapsed, then squatted there and sobbed uncontrollably.

Subsequently, Matthias took him to a coffee shop.

They ordered two coffees and sat there silently drinking them.

A few minutes later, Carl Heinze finally spoke: "Thank you for saving me. Actually, I have two children. If I had really jumped just now, my children would have lost their support."

Matthias smiled slightly: "I said, there's hope as long as you're alive. So, let's continue discussing what we were talking about earlier."

Carl Heinze was somewhat surprised: "The matter of cooperating to open a company, I thought you were joking."

"I don't like to joke. Don't you want to make a comeback?"

"Of course I do, but I'm a wreck now. After several consecutive failures, I can't get money, and I've lost my connections."

"You don't need to worry about money; I'll invest in this company. You just need to manage the company well and handle operations. I'll be responsible for the company's direction. If you can't even handle operations, then I have nothing more to say."

Carl Heinze: "Operations are no problem for me. My previous failures were all due to wrong directional decisions. What kind of company do you want to open?"

"A game entertainment company."

"A game entertainment company?" Hearing this name, Carl Heinze felt a headache coming on.

"This kind of company is not as simple as you think. Game development, talent recruitment, market research, promotion and distribution—every link is extremely important. Most importantly, you need to create a high-quality game, otherwise the risk is too great!"

As expected of someone who had run a company, he understood the risks involved.

"Wrong, we don't need to develop games."

"Not developing games?"

"Yes, game development is not within the scope of this company."

Because Matthias could handle game development all by himself.

"The main business of this company will be to act as an agent for game activities, competitions, promotions, and various related industrial chain businesses. Do you understand what I mean?"

At these words, Carl Heinze's eyes lit up.

"I understand. This way, there's no risk of game development, and safety is greatly improved. But the question is, can we take on business from another company? Currently, most game companies on the market offer a one-stop service and won't let other companies interfere. These things involve a lot of profit."

For example, Morgenstern Studios offers a one-stop service; they handle everything: game development, operations, maintenance, promotion, events, and merchandise, making them a fortune.

No game company would be willing to outsource these services to other companies.

But Matthias's situation was different; he was only one person, responsible for the basic aspects of the game, because his Game Producer System could handle all these things.

However, he couldn't handle subsequent activities, merchandise, promotions, and other such things by himself.

This special situation required a company to take on the immense workload, and Matthias didn't want to waste his energy on such matters.

Similarly, he didn't want to let these potential earnings slip away.

Just today, he saw a fated person, and Matthias decided on his inner thoughts.

After all, if Pirates of the Caribbean needed to host competitions later, a company would be needed to manage these contents, and he wouldn't have to worry about it. Let the professionals handle professional matters.

"There's one game that can work, Pirates of the Caribbean, have you heard of it?"

Carl Heinze shook his head: "Never heard of it."

Matthias took out his phone and opened a short video. At this moment, Lena Morgen was live streaming Pirates of the Caribbean.

"See? It's this game. Look at the number of people in the live stream."

Carl Heinze stared at the screen. This game was indeed surprising, and the number of viewers in the live stream was also 100,000+.

"For a game like this, isn't their company willing to earn this money?"

"I know the game developer; he's my friend. He's not interested in game merchandise operations, so he needs a game agency company. I'm 99% sure I can secure this business."

"Really?"

"This game was just released yesterday, and it's already gone viral across the entire network. Do you understand the value of going viral across the entire network?"

Carl Heinze nodded: "I know. So, what will our company be called?"

Matthias thought for a moment and said: "Unreal Entertainment Company, primarily engaged in game activity operations and maintenance, not involved in game development. Of course, we can appropriately provide some player feedback to game developers."

Carl Heinze: "I think that's unfair to you. You invest, you bring in business, and you still want to give me shares. I don't think seventy-thirty is right; I'd be taking too much, as I haven't contributed anything."

"eighty-twenty, and don't try to decline."

"I will definitely work hard."

Regarding the shares, since Matthias was essentially entrusting him with managing the company, having shares would make him willing to manage it wholeheartedly.

If his character truly had issues, it wouldn't matter; he could just open a new company later and find someone else to manage it.

For now, it seemed like a win-win situation.
