Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Kingdom Trial

Chapter 14: Kingdom Trial

The next day, Matthias Engel found time to register a company with Carl Heinze.

Carl Heinze handled the subsequent matters, such as company location, as he was very adept at these things.

Matthias refocused his attention on game development and updates.

He went home and opened the Steam Platform; sales had already exceeded 100,000.

This was only the third day since the game's release, and these sales far surpassed his estimates, even without any marketing.

Therefore, a game, as long as it has good quality, will have a good reputation.

Relying on this reputation, streamers will play these games, thereby driving more sales.

Moreover, just today, Morgenstern Studios's new Kingdom Adventure also launched.

The company held a grand launch event, inviting many famous streamers to play the game.

Matthias opened the short video APP and entered Lena Morgen's live stream.

At this time, Lena had just finished downloading Kingdom Adventure.

"Kingdom Adventure launched today, and I absolutely have to try it out, especially since Morgenstern is our sponsor."

The viewers in the bullet chat started flooding the screen.

"Support! I've been wanting to see Kingdom Adventure for a long time!"

"It's been advertised for so long, I wonder what the actual graphics are like. The offline secrecy was handled quite well before."

"I wonder how it compares to Pirates of the Caribbean. I don't ask for too much, just the same quality as Pirates of the Caribbean would be fine."

"If it's the same quality, then I'd definitely choose Kingdom Adventure, after all, it's backed by a large company."

Immediately after, Lena opened Kingdom Adventure.

A beautiful cutscene appeared, showing a knight with a greatsword in front of a castle.

Under the moonlight, the castle was engulfed in flames, and the undead and monsters were wreaking havoc. You would play as a hero to save this kingdom on the verge of being swallowed by demons.

"The graphics look pretty good."

Actually, Lena wanted to say that this animation wasn't as stunning as Pirates of the Caribbean, and it didn't stir any emotions in her.

Out of respect for the sponsor, she couldn't say anything bad.

Then it entered the menu page, which wasn't a dynamic menu page, but a beautiful static illustration.

"Then let's start Kingdom Adventure!"

Lena clicked "Start Adventure."

Another cutscene played, but it still didn't make her feel amazed.

After the animation, she appeared directly in the kingdom's town.

Unlike when she first entered Pirates of the Caribbean, where the view zoomed in from a distance, showing the sea and islands, gradually reaching the bustling town.

Immediately after, Lena was stunned.

The character models seemed a bit rough. Looking around, it was a burning town with wandering monsters, and several NPCs fled in panic, with no interaction whatsoever.

Moreover, the flame effects felt very mediocre, and the house models were a notch below Pirates of the Caribbean.

"As for the graphics, I won't comment too much. I'll try out the character's feel."

When Lena said this, it indicated that the graphics had somewhat disappointed her.

After playing good works, she couldn't stomach the inferior ones.

If Pirates of the Caribbean hadn't appeared before, this work would definitely have moved her, but unfortunately, there were no 'ifs'.

Immediately after, she followed the tutorial and began controlling her character to fight monsters.

When the weapon struck the monster, there was no sense of impact, as if hitting air, and then she saw the monster's health dropping.

Soon, she killed a monster, but strangely, she didn't feel any joy after killing it, as if she had taken down a doll.

The character's movements were simple, and most importantly, not fluid enough.

Compared to most 3D games on the market, the movements might already be considered excellent, but compared to Pirates of the Caribbean, the difference was significant.

So she gritted her teeth and continued to try it out.

"Babies, let me finish the first chapter and see, maybe there's a hidden surprise waiting for us."

"Let's play a bit more!"

"Let's see what the BOSS is like!"

"It feels... not as amazing as I imagined!"

The viewers in the live stream also became more rational; they wanted to see if they could find anything to praise about the game later on.

An hour later, Lena completed the first chapter.

The giant BOSS fell beside her, yet her heart remained calm.

There was no sense of excitement at all, it wasn't as thrilling as fighting pirates on a ship.

In that moment of battling pirates, she felt her adrenaline surge.

"Sorry, I'm tired, I need to rest for a bit."

Lena closed the game and then ended the live stream.

Even though the live stream was a black screen, the bullet chat kept scrolling.

"A bit disappointed ~"

"It feels too far behind Pirates of the Caribbean."

"Yeah, waited so long, didn't expect this kind of graphics and control feel."

"I don't think Morgenstern Studios can be blamed. It can only be said that Pirates of the Caribbean appeared out of nowhere; you can't beat it with any other game on the market."

"Pirates of the Caribbean feels like a next-gen game. With such a game existing, it feels like there won't be any formidable opponents for several years."

The audience in the live stream viewed it rationally, not belittling Kingdom Adventure, because they knew what the games they usually played were like.

Kingdom Adventure was already very good, but unfortunately, its opponent was the suddenly appearing Pirates of the Caribbean, a game that didn't belong to this era.

Immediately after, the bullet chat began discussing the development company and producer of Pirates of the Caribbean.

"Very curious which company produced it."

"Don't know, netizens have searched everywhere these past few days and haven't found anything. Some people rumored it's an individual developer."

"An individual developer is too outrageous, can one person make such a big game?"

"One person definitely can't make it. It's probably a foreign company that's just being low-key."

After thirty minutes, Lena reopened her live stream.

"Babies, I'm back. I just had a bite to eat. Next, we'll continue playing Pirates of the Caribbean."

Sorry, Morgenstern Studios, even though you are the sponsor of MG Team, Pirates of the Caribbean holds more appeal to me.

Lena had already fallen in love with the life of adventuring at sea, and she looked forward even more to battling and plundering pirates, especially the reactive coordination required when controlling her character, all of which made her incredibly excited.

Opening Pirates of the Caribbean again, her level had already reached 15.

By plundering pirate ships, she had already accumulated a considerable sum of money.

Her equipment was now a set of excellent quality, plus the rare quality flintlock pistol she had obtained earlier.

Her sloop had also undergone some modifications, with cannons installed on both the port and starboard sides, including the bow.

Looking at the level leaderboard, Lena had dropped from her previous second place to seventh place.

Just a few hours of not playing, and she had been surpassed by others.

Moreover, Lena also learned from other players that when choosing different professions at the start, there would be different starting locations.

The four professions had a total of four starting locations, and the islands and towns encountered after leaving the starting point were also different.

This further piqued Lena's curiosity; she understood that although the starting points were different, there would always be a main city where everyone would converge.
