Have you ever had one of those dreams so wonderful that you never wanted to wake up? If yes, then you'll also understand the misery of being dragged out of it by something annoying in the real world. That's exactly what happened to me. Some irritating machine kept beeping, and someone thought it would be fun to jab me with a needle. Not the best way to wake up.
Honestly, my dream had been amazing, and losing it to this nonsense left me groaning. Blinking, I gave my eyes a moment to adjust, fully expecting to see Atlas beside me. But when my vision cleared, all I saw was a nurse fiddling with my hand, not Atlas anywhere in sight.
The lights felt far too bright, making me squint until I had to close my eyes again before opening them slowly. Still no sign of him. Where was he?
"Oh, you're awake!" the nurse exclaimed, leaning over me and flashing a light directly into my eyes.
I hissed and swatted it away. "Please, don't do that."
