Amon's Pov
A month passed rather quickly, with me distracting myself through training my combat abilities and control over my NEXUS.
The past month pushed me to my limits a lot, and from it I learned a lot of new things.
FFOOO—
Like a fact where Hexacausts aren't necessarily required to go with ranged based attacks, it's just that people prefer using ranged because it helps keep them somewhat safer or they just really love long ranged fire power.
I don't even blame them.
BZZZZZT—
VVVVOO—
I was currently testing the testing purpose NEXUS gear that was displayed on the table. These are for Hexacausts of course. I tried controlling gears for Caustals and it was pretty much a disaster. The psionic pulse and control required for Caustal NEXUS is actually different compared to a Hexacaust's NEXUS.
It's like the difference between 2 players in a game who play different classes. Where one spammed all his stats on strength and endurance the other might have spent his stats evenly.
In this case, Hexacausts focused on both control and precision while Caustals went all out on sheer brute power. They might have ranged as well but that's the minority.
And I plan to be a minority of the Hexacausts as well. Using my NEXUS for close combat, it's literally unheard of in this universe. Which makes me the first to do it in history.
CLANG—
The spike flew off as it hit the metallic floor with a bit too much force.
"Oops..."
I blurted out.
"Amon, I assume you're already getting the hang of controlling your NEXUS?"
Helios came in the room while carrying a box and some bottles.
"Lunch?"
I asked.
"Dinner."
He corrected me, which prompted me to check the time through my NEXUS' system.
19:33
"Oh damn, did I skip lunch?"
"You certainly did."
Helios chuckled at my realization as he placed the box and bottles on the table near him.
Tapping the side of the box made it open on its own, retracting into a tray of sorts as it revealed the contents of it.
"Fuck yeah! Fried Chicken!"
The meal was pretty much just Fried Chicken and Rice, somewhat a common meal in this world. Made me wonder if the entire universe was somewhat converted to asian or rice is just a common food now.
"Feel free to eat as much as you can, considering how heavy you trained."
Helios said as he grabbed his bottle of Carbon Cola and took a sip from it.
I, however, took the liberty of eating like a rabid dog, munching on both the rice and chicken as if there's someone that might just take it from me.
Helios chuckled at the sight as he ate his portion much more elegantly than me.
Hey, I was hungry okay!? Training with this psionic bullshit and NEXUS drains me both mentally and physically!
"How is your progress? Feeling better with your close combat yet?"
"A 'it."
I managed to blurt out with my mouth stuffed to the brim.
"Hm?"
Before I spoke up, I tried to swallow all the stuffed food because I can't really speak properly. Took me a few seconds or so to do it.
"A bit. It's difficult trying to maintain it as much as I can to close quartees combat because they aren't exactly held weaponry. So I tried making use of the telekinetuc control by ensuring that I point the sarper edges to targets as I do swinging motions making the vears work like a whip of sorts."
I stated.
"Impressive. Though it's not unheard of, you might be the first person I've seen implement it properly."
Helios' words confused me. A method that isn't unheard of? Does that mean some people tried to do close combat before?
"Wait, does that mean that others tried to use close combat before while being Hexacausts?"
Helios nodded to my question.
"Indeed. There's very little records though as it was only for a short time, but some attempted it but couldn't really find the right application for it. Some did try using it as some form of a 'whip' but it was difficult for them to maintain it as the ones who tried it were only nearing the peak of NEXUS level 1. Unlike them however, your NEXUS is currently level 2 and you've got a passion for close quarters combat even if the norm for Hexacausts are long ranged."
I hummed at what Helios said. I didn't expect that the idea of going melee as a Hexacaust was already a thing which made me a bit disappointed.
"Say, Helios. Mind having a spar for a bit?"
Helios was surprised at my request.
"Really? I've been a level 3 for 4 centuries already. Are you sure?"
I nodded in response.
"Hm... I don't have any problems with that, but I'll make it like this. I'll give you 10 minutes to get a hit on me, even a small cut would do. During that time I'll only dodge and block. Once the time limit passes, I'll strike. Is that fine?"
Once more, I nodded. I'm not an idiot. Though asking someone like Helios for a spar is definitely an idiotic request, I'm not idiotic enough to think that I can handle him in combat.
"Alright then. But first, finish up your meal. It might get cold."
His reminder made me return my focus to my food as I then began devouring it like a rabid beast.
Before we began the spar after I finished my meal, Helios gave me time to rest as action immediately after eating is pretty much still a bit bad for one's body.
Minutes passed rather quickly and both Helios and I were a distance apart from each other. Helios stood with his arms behind his back as 2 drone floated above him. 2 Hexacaust NEXUS gears he chose which syncs with his NEXUS ability pretty well.
Now that I think about it, how does NEXUS abilities really work? Are they passives or are there attack abilities or something?
[Notice!]
Huh?
[New Quest!
Huh?
[Defeat Adam Kingshold(Helios) in a spar!]
[Rewards: First
Excuse me? You said you wouldn't control me through quests? What's this?
Oh great, now you're silent. Fucking great.
I controlled the 3 spikes, albeit rather crudely as my control isn't that high. Rewards are at risk so why not? I'll have to go serious now...
