Serena walked out of the building with her folder looking a bit out of place.
The moment she came into view, I stepped out of the car and leaned against the door.
While she was getting things done, an idea had slowly creeped into my head—an idea that would make the weekend for the both of us.
When she reached me, I opened the door for her and waited until she got in before closing it.
"You took a while," I said once I got into the driver's seat. "Everything okay?"
She fastened her seatbelt and looked out the window.
"Nothing much. It was just paperwork."
"So," she said, turning to me, "where are we going?"
"It's a surprise."
She raised a brow. "A surprise?"
"Yes."
"We're not going home?"
"No."
She looked at me again, and I could see both excitement and confusion. I could see her curiosity written all over her face, and it almost made me smile. I started the engine and pulled out of the school's parking lot.
