While Sanji and Zoro were fighting Cipher Pol 9, deep inside a large room within the underground passage leading toward the Gate of Justice, Luffy was locked in a fierce battle with Rob Lucci.
After an intense exchange of blows, Franky finally arrived.
"Boom!"
Luffy was kicked straight into a wooden crate by Lucci, smashing a corner of the wall.
Seeing Luffy stand back up, Franky asked, "You being held up by him? Where's Nico Robin? I brought two keys. Need help?"
"No need," Luffy replied, eyes fixed on Lucci.
"But I want to ask you to go stop Robin. The door behind the pigeon guy leads to the Gate of Justice. Robin's already been dragged there. I'll hold this guy back!"
Franky grinned. "Leave it to me, you idiot!"
"Heh," Lucci looked at the two of them with mocking amusement.
"Gum-Gum… Gatling!!"
Luffy rushed forward, fists blasting out like a storm. Lucci easily slipped through the rain of punches.
"Paper Art."
"Bang!!"
Dodging gracefully, Lucci closed the distance and kicked. Luffy blocked the kick with his right arm, while Lucci blocked Luffy's counterpunch.
Both withdrew at the same moment.
Luffy threw another punch—
"Shave."
Lucci suddenly appeared behind him.
Luffy reacted and crossed both arms to block the kick, but Lucci spun and struck again, driving his heel deep into Luffy's stomach. Luffy flew backward and crashed right at Franky's feet.
The impact made Franky somersault. "Straw Hat Kid!"
Franky resumed running—he still had to leave Lucci to Luffy.
"Storm Leg!"
Lucci fired multiple razor-sharp air slashes at Franky, but Franky dodged.
"Left Arm Weapon!"
Franky counterattacked.
"Shave!"
"Gum-Gum… Rocket Launcher!!"
Just before Lucci's fist reached Franky, Luffy launched himself sideways like a missile.
Their fists collided—shockwaves blasted outward, forcing all three to retreat.
"What even is this?!" Franky shouted, stunned. He had never seen fighting on this level before. Speed and strength this exaggerated?
"Rocket Launcher!!"
Luffy shot forward again and clashed with Lucci, the two locked in a deadlock.
Seeing the opening, Franky raised his left arm weapon and aimed. "Okay, stay like that!"
"Wait!" Luffy yelled. "Don't do anything unnecessary—hurry up and go! Didn't I say I'd hold this guy back?!"
Franky barked, "What do you mean hold him back? You're barely hanging on! We need to work together!"
"Franky!" Luffy snapped. "This guy is my opponent. I must hold him here. Go stop Robin! Otherwise she'll be gone—and we won't be able to save her!"
Franky froze, understanding Luffy's desperation. It was the same feeling he had when trying to save Tom.
"Hmph. Keep dreaming," Lucci said coldly. He kneed Luffy upward, then moved to attack Franky—only for Luffy's stretched arm to clamp around his leg.
"Straw Hat Kid, you—!"
"HURRY!! GO!!"
"Understood!"
Franky finally ran to save Robin.
"I said, don't think about escaping," Lucci growled. He leapt high, dragging Luffy with him.
"Moon Step!"
"Boom!"
Lucci smashed Luffy into the ground, leaving a deep crater. Luffy's grip loosened.
"Shave."
"Finger Pistol!"
Lucci appeared in front of Franky and thrust forward—only to have his hand stopped by Luffy's stretched arm.
Panting, Luffy glared. "Didn't I tell you? Your opponent is me!"
"Shave."
"Finger Pistol!"
The blow stabbed into Luffy, but he still growled, "Didn't I say this move won't work on me?"
"Yellow Lotus!"
"Boom!!"
Luffy blasted into another crate. Lucci turned on Franky. "It's useless. You're not getting through."
"Less talking," Franky snapped. He tore off his right glove, revealing metal beneath. "Super… Hammer!!"
"Iron Body."
Lucci tanked the hit without moving. Franky gawked. "He didn't budge?! Chapapapa went flying!"
Lucci smirked. "So you beat Fukurou and made it here? Impressive. But my Doriki is five times his."
He stabbed Franky with Finger Pistol. Franky coughed blood instantly.
"You've reached a superhuman realm," Lucci said. "But die now."
Crackles of blue light flickered on Lucci's right side.
"Hey—ever been kicked at the speed of light?"
"Huh? Who—"
BANG!
Lucci was suddenly blasted into a crate, smashing into the wall and carving a giant spiderweb crack into it.
"What—what happened?!" Franky shouted.
He turned—and of course, it was that idiot Sandy.
Because joining Nami and the others would take too long, Sandy rushed ahead by himself.
Seeing Franky staring, Sandy waved casually. "Franky, hey, have you eaten?"
"Baka!" Franky yelled. "What the hell are you?! What just happened?! No—why the hell are you asking that NOW?! Hurry up! We need to save Robin!"
"Oh!" Luffy, preparing to attack again, brightened when he saw Sandy. "You're here, Sandy! Hurry and save Robin!"
Sandy rolled his eyes. "Relax. I can definitely save her."
Luffy grinned. "Then hurry! I'll be his opponent. You wouldn't have—him—"
Before he finished, Sandy tossed him a freshly roasted lamb leg.
"Sorry for complaining just now," Luffy said, eating immediately.
Franky's jaw dropped. "Straw Hat Kid—you were just screaming in panic, and now you're eating?!"
"Thud…"
A crate shook. Lucci staggered out, wiping the blood from his mouth. His eyes sharpened with killing intent.
Sandy tossed Luffy a bottle of cola. "Finish eating. I'll deal with him. Leave Robin to me."
"Okay, I'm counting on you," Luffy said with his cheeks full.
"Damn it!" Lucci snarled, transforming into his leopard form, body expanding massively.
Franky sweat bullets. "So you're also a Devil Fruit user?!"
Lucci hissed, "Disappear first, Franky. Shave!"
But Sandy suddenly appeared above him.
"Reverse High Kick!"
"BOOM!"
Lucci was launched into another crate, slamming into the wall even harder. The crack this time was even bigger.
"I'm done eating!" Luffy said, licking his fingers. "Not full, but good enough. Next—it's your turn, pigeon guy! Hmm where is he."
