Chapter 31 - Terrifying Special Effects Optimization!

"Buy it!!"

Xu Dan gritted his teeth and directly purchased the [Intermediate Special Effects Optimization Pack].

This kind of thing had no physical form — it instantly applied to Warcraft on the computer before him according to his intent.

When the computer screen changed as if a layer of mist had lifted, Xu Dan's eyes froze in shock!

As the developer who had created The King of Fighters — and as someone who already understood what the [Intermediate Special Effects Optimization Pack] could do — he was still completely stunned by the sight before him.

Would the players still remember that first CG cutscene from The King of Fighters' launch?

In that animation, there was a moment when the camera rose high, showing players a vast battlefield.

But The King of Fighters was a fighting game — it didn't even have a war system, at least not yet.

Now, Warcraft did.

Without question, what was now on the screen was that same kind of grand, majestic battlefield — but with an entirely different style, one filled with magic and fantasy.

This wasn't a fight between humans — it was a war between monsters and "monsters."

"Liva!!" he called out, dialing an internal extension to summon her.

Liva was now his secretary, and art designer second.

After living comfortably for a while, her skin had become fairer, her confidence and presence much more noticeable.

"Dan, you called for me?" Liva asked as she closed the door behind her. Usually when she was called into the office, it was for something personal — so she instinctively expected that again, her expression carrying a hint of shyness.

But what Xu Dan said next left her stunned.

"Prepare for a press conference. I'm releasing our new game — Warcraft — tomorrow at exactly noon!"

Liva knew the name, but it was the timing that shocked her.

After all, even The King of Fighters, a relatively simple game, had been tested countless times before its release. And Warcraft? She had only seen it ten minutes ago!

Compared to The King of Fighters, Warcraft's visuals looked rough, unpolished — like something that couldn't possibly stand beside their hit title.

"Dan, are you sure you're all right? The King of Fighters is still at its peak — no other game can compete right now. Why would we compete with ourselves?"

Xu Dan smiled faintly, a bit proud. "You've learned a lot lately, Liva. You're starting to sound like a real executive."

"Ah, you're teasing me again!" she said, smiling.

After spending so much time together, the distance between them had faded. They could now speak openly, without the stiffness or restraint of the past. Xu Dan had noticed her growth — from a shy assistant to someone who could express her thoughts boldly. He was genuinely pleased. Finally, he had someone he could rely on.

"Come here, Liva," he said with a smile, waving her over.

"Hmm?" she asked curiously, walking toward him, her heels tapping rhythmically on the floor.

When she came close, Xu Dan gently guided her nearer to the computer screen.

"This—!"

The moment she saw it, Liva gasped.

She had never seen anything like this — not even when they created The King of Fighters.

The battlefield on screen was magnificent, overwhelming — a completely different kind of visual impact.

Humans are visual creatures, and women even more so.

The King of Fighters, by its design, had ordinary visuals — clean but not breathtaking.

But Warcraft? It was a world of magic and energy, where exaggeration only made it more dazzling.

It might be fantasy — unreal — but it was utterly awe-inspiring.

This wasn't a simple setting like a tavern or beach — it was a world created purely from imagination.

If anyone else dared call their game an "epic war masterpiece," Liva felt she could laugh right in their face.

In front of Warcraft, who would still dare boast?

Even though Xu Dan had said it was an RTS (real-time strategy) game, in her eyes, what she saw was already an epic battle brought to life.

"Good heavens, Dan! How did you do this? Ten minutes ago it didn't look anything like this!" she exclaimed.

Xu Dan smiled, eyes glinting with amusement. "You really want to know?"

"Of course I do!" Liva nodded eagerly.

Just as he was about to answer, there came a knock at the door — knock, knock, knock!

The sound startled them both slightly. Xu Dan quickly composed himself.

"Come in," he said.

The door opened, and in walked Skye.

Xu Dan straightened in his chair, hiding his tension. "What is it, Skye?"

"Boss, I'm here to report on the latest progress," she said.

Xu Dan nodded. "Go ahead."

"Since I took over all operations for The King of Fighters, the global fighting tournament you proposed has drawn a huge response from players. I've gathered data and—"
