Chapter 13 - His eyes, My fear

I turned around to look at him. My heart was pounding; I was panicking.

He was staring back at me confused, unreadable.

For a few long minutes, neither of us said a word. Then, he simply waved his hand, signaling me to leave.

I thought for a moment that he might have something to say - something important but he didn't. He just sat there in silence, and I was finally allowed to go.

Honestly, I felt nothing but relief.

When I stepped out of the room, a guard was already waiting for me. Without a word, he led me to another room the one where Junhao was waiting.

The moment Junhao saw me enter, his expression changed completely. He rushed toward me, his eyes scanning every inch of my face.

"Are you hurt?" he asked, his voice tense with worry.

I shook my head quickly. He sighed, visibly relieved.

But his gaze fell on my swollen eyes, and his concern deepened.

"Did he... torture you?" he asked softly.

Again, I shook my head. "No, no... he didn't do anything. It was my fault. I just stood in the middle of the road and disturbed the traffic.

That's all."

Junhao frowned, clea confused.

"That's not what I heard," he said.I blinked at him, puzzled. "Hmm? What do you mean?"

He hesitated for a moment before replying, "Someone attacked him today. While he was chasing that man, you somehow got in his way."

My eyes widened. "What? Oh my God..." I gasped, my mind spinning. "Did he think I was with that guy?"

Junhao stayed silent, his expression unreadable.

After a moment, I whispered, half to myself, "Then why did he let me go?"

Junhao finally spoke again, his voice calmer now.

"He just arrived from the border, so he didn'tknow you. That's why he misunderstood. After I explained your situation, he let you go."

I exhaled slowly, nodding. "Oh..." was all I managed to say.

We started walking toward the entrance of the so-called police station. My steps echoed softly against the cold floor. I couldn't stop myself from speaking again.

"Do you know who that person was the one who attacked him? He seemed like a nice person, so why would someone want to hurt him?"

Junhao turned his head slightly, his eyes curious but guarded. "I advise you to stay away from this matter, okay?"

I lowered my gaze. "Hmm."

It was the only thing I could say, though deep down, I knew I wasn't going to stop thinking about it. There was no way I could just let it go.

As we stepped outside, the night air brushed against my face - cool, sharp, almost freeing. But one last question burned inside me.

"Okay," I said quietly, "just one last question. Please."

Junhao sighed but nodded.

"What's his name?" I asked.

He narrowed his eyes at me, suspicious.

"What?" I said, forcing a small smile. "Just his name. That's all."

Junhao sighed and replied, "Jin Wei"

I utter his name slowly more to remember it.
