"Haa!!" Travis shouted as he stabbed the monster after Scott ambushed it with a net.
The monster shattered into golden dust and left nothing behind.
Both the Hermes cabin members panted as the exhaustion seeped into their bodies. They had been hunting monsters nonstop while only resting to sleep for six hours at a time, plus they have to rotate constantly so that the camp can function properly while the monsters attacked without any break.
"Damn it, I never imagined the camp was like this before Thalia's barrier. I thought Silva was exaggerating a bit when he talked about it that time" Marcus said as he got a rare time to rest from the horde of monsters that kept on attacking.
"Yeah, can't deny that. Plus imagine what would have happened if we had not improved last year and changed how everything worked. Do you think the causalities would have been so low if the camp had worked like it did before" Scott said and only received a nod from Marcus.
They both knew how much the entire camp had improved in the previous year. But it still was not enough. The camp had been running at full power for days while only taking minimum breaks at a time, just enough so that the demigods do not faint in the midst of a battle. The Aphrodite and Apollo campers are using the powers they got from their parents to soothe the minds of those who are tired by everything that is happening.
But everyone knew it was only a temporary reprieve. Going like this would end up in them losing the battle with the monsters sooner or later.
Their hope was on Clarisse who went out on a quest to find the fleece. But they have no idea how long it will take for her to get the artifact that had been missing in the most dangerous sea for centuries.
"Percy went after her didn't he?" Marcus asked and Scott laughed in return.
They knew the moment they heard about Grover's kidnapping. Percy would go after Luke to save his friend, but at the same time Clarisse refused to take Percy with her due to her personal reasons.
While they were discussing, they saw Beckendorf running towards them. And from what they can see, his expression did not scream good news.
"Its bad guys, you need to come back to camp and shorten the perimeter" he said the moment he reached them.
"What happened?"
"See for yourself" he said as he began running back and the two Hermes cabin members joined them. It did not take long for them to see the reason why the monster horde had easily thinned out in the direction they were guarding just moments ago.
The monsters had completely abandoned their earlier tactic of attacking without any order from all sides. Currently they were gathering into a large horde. Right in the direction of the camp entrance just half a mile away.
"Those bastards, they aren't waiting for the barrier to come down on its own, they want to attack this direction until they take down the tree" a camper shouted in anger.
"Where the hell is our camp director?" another Ares camper shouted.
"Still holed up while trying to eat something. That idiot does not know that his curse only becomes undone as long as he does the job he had been given to do. But instead of doing it, he's wasting his time in front of food" a camper from Athena said while trying to fight off sleep. He had woken up just after getting an hour of sleep as all hands were needed for the attack that's about to happen.
Hephaestus campers were running around while getting every batch of Greek fire they can find, Apollo, Athena and the Demeter campers were creating potions that act like high powered caffeine so that people can stay awake for this fight.
The campers who got injured in the earlier fight were drinking as many ambrosia and nectar as they can before they combust due to its divinity. They knew that the camp needed every hand it can get right now.
The cabin councillors were having a short meeting at the moment.
"Even if by some luck we win this round, we won't survive the next one" Athen cabin councillor said with a grim face.
"Doesn't matter, we still have to give her best to win, we need to protect the kids from dying at least" Beckendorf said while everyone looked towards the hearth where the youngest members of the camp were sitting safely. They had not even reached an age they can fight, so there were kept in the centremost part of the camp to protect them.
Suddenly they felt the earth shake under her heels. They turned and saw the horde of monsters coming towards them.
"Alright I guess its today" Travis said as he hefted his knife.
The cabin councillors immediately moved towards their members who were now stationed right before Thalia's tree. Cause they knew this will be their last stand.
As they were waiting for their attack, they saw a silver light that suddenly fell upon the monsters.
BOOOOOMMMM!!!!!!
The camp was shocked at the attack that took a sizable chunk of the monsters that were about to kill them all.
They turned to the Hephaestus campers but found them to be confused as they are. They also noticed that they still had their Greek fire bombs with them.
"Who sent that strike" Selena from the Aphrodite cabin asked when suddenly, they saw multiple of the same silver light fall upon the entire monsters.
BOOOMMM!
SMASHHH!!!
BOOOOM!!!
A small mushroom cloud rose up, making the sky red as the campers watched the complete annihilation of the monster army. The monsters were not even able to scream out before they vanished into golden dust.
Just when they were getting their wits back, a voice spoke to them. A familiar voice that brought hope to all those who were ready to face their death just moments ago.
"Why don't all of you go back and rest for some time, I'll make sure to keep them all out. And I promise you none of the monsters will cross into the camp borders alive." Silva had returned to camp half blood and declared bringing back hope to the entirety of the Greek demigods.
