Chapter 7 - I Hate Mosquitoes and Snakes

The silence in the Poison Dungeon was eerie now—too quiet for comfort.

At ever step there was danger, and Alex knew.

Of course he ain't a kid neither a rookie no more, dumbass author.

Who you calling dumbass!?

None. Lets focus on writing and narrating.

The system flicked and showed him what has left for now.

[Quest Progress: 2/4 Bosses Defeated]

[Warning: Poison Concentration Rising]

He exhaled. "So… two more left."

The air tasted more like real venom now, bitter and poisonous. His chest had those scars of previous battles, cut by the claws of Tarantra, and a bit of scratch by Tarantz, but his eyes, those didn't flinched, not even a bit. Alex went on, maybe deeper into the what lies ahead.

After a while, the corridor got largely opened into a cavern. The ground dimly glowed with a thin layer of liquid venom, reflecting the green glue above like a twisted mirror. And there, carved into the rocky walls, were enormous snake-like patterns that pulsed faintly, as if living creature had been here before, must've been the wind then!

Shut it! And focus.

Then, the ground moved.

No, not the ground, something beneath it. The rock shifted, cracked, a massive, scaled body slithered out, shaking the ground with its weight. Yeah, I bet it weighted a 1000Kgs as far as I can see

It was an anaconda.

No wait— you can't—

No, something worse.

Of course, haha!! Why do even I expect better of you everytime!? You know I hate snakes and anacondas!!!

Thats why I did it!! Now narrate!!

[Boss Detected: Veregon, The Venom Serpent]

[Rank: A+ | Type: Corrosive Poison | Behavior: Territorial]

The beast's eyes were of a deeper colour of green, its body coiling up as if Alex was the one it was waiting for. Every movement left behind trails of burning acid. Alex took a step back, blade ready, as the serpent hissed and reared its colossal head.

"So, you're the next one…Fuck" he muttered. "Let's make this quick."

But before he could even move, a sharp buzzing sound sliced through the air. His ears rang. He turned, i guess it was too late for my brother Alex.

Something darted past his face like a blur of light and shadow. The stench of rot filled his nose, followed by a sting on his neck. He swiped, but the thing was gone.

Blood trickled from the wound, and a small notification blinked before him.

[Status: Poisoned]

[Mana Drain in Progress...]

"Great," Alex groaned. "Now what—?"

The air shimmered again, and from above descended a nightmare in wings.

A mosquito. Not a normal one.

What did I do to deserve this!? You know very well that I hate both snake and mosquitoes!!!

Sorry, Narrator, I didn't had other ideas for bosses. Now deal with it!!

This one was the size of a horse, its proboscis glinting like a spear, its wings vibrating so fast they distorted the air around them.

[Boss Detected: Maraxis, The Poison Mosquito Queen]

[Rank: A+ | Type: Mana Parasite | Behavior: Predatory]

Both bosses. Together.

Alex grit his teeth. "Fuck, So this is how it's gonna be."

Veregon lunged first, its tail crashing down like a falling pillar. Alex rolled to the side, narrowly avoiding it, the ground exploding where he had just been standing. The serpent's acidic saliva burned through stone, hissing and smoking.

He didn't even had time to breathe. The mosquito queen darted in, faster than an arrow. Alex barely brought his dagger up in time to parry its stinger, sparks flew as metal met chitin.

The force launched him backward, slamming him into the wall. His ribs in pain more like he needed therapy after it ends and he survives. The system flickered and came across to warn him as if he couldn't sense his own body, haha.

[HP: 64%]

[Warning: Mana Reserves Draining]...

[Warning: Mana Reserves Draining]...

"Two at once, huh?" he growled, pushing himself up though not fully recovered but still wining as if he could win, He can. "Fuck! Fine, Let's see if I can be your dinner."

He rushed in, blade glowing faintly with absorbed venom energy. He swung upward, cutting across the serpent's lower scales, but its height was tough, even with enhanced speed of Alex, he wasn't able to reach that high. Only a shallow wound opened, green blood splattering and sizzling on the floor. Veregon hissed in rage, its massive body coiling for another strike.

Maraxis go onto low again, its stinger aimed straight for his heart. Alex barely dodged and ducked, using the serpent's body as a cover. The mosquito's stinger drove into Veregon instead, drawing a loud sneeky screech from the snake as venom mixed with venom, I guess both hited harder, maybe!?.

"Guess you're not on the same team after all," Alex muttered, almost as if he didn't feared his death, cause he didn't.

Both monsters turned toward him now, roaring and drawing towards him in unison. The serpent lashed out; the mosquito went up, waiting for an opening. Alex knew he couldn't win by brute force. He had to use his wit and their foolishness against them. But he just needed to get rid of the poison first.

How though!? Well lets see more.

He focused, though no use of it, but still he recalled every movement, every attack. He'd fought countless monsters before even though they were all just E-ranks, but this was different too. They were faster, smarter, and not that friendly with each other, yet he couldn't win.

And the poison, he could feel it eating at him from the inside. I bet he ain't gonna die now!! I know it!!

His vision blurred for a moment, the world spinning slightly. His whole body filled heavily with venom inside his skin, the type that won't leave you live any longer than 2 mins.

Then the system twitched or rather buzzed urgently.

[Critical Condition Detected]

[Can't let the Player die]

[Emergency Skill Adaptation in Progress...]

[New Passive Skill Unlocked: TOXIN RESISTANT]

[Effect: Negates all natural and synthetic toxins. Alcohol and sedatives nullified.]

A sudden rush of heat ran through his body. The burning pain eased instantly as if a doctor had been here. The haze and comfusion from his eyes lifted and became more clear.

Alex grinned. "Now that's more like it, bring it on now, bosses."

He leapt back into battle.

The venom that once burned through Alex's blood now felt like nothing more than warm water in his veins. His breathing became more stable, and his eyes sharpened with focus. The system's sound of thingling in his head felt stronger, and much more reactive whenerver Alex was gonna die.

The serpent, Veregon, noticed the change. Its slit pupils constricted as it sensed the shift in the air, the prey before it didn't smell like prey anymore.

And Maraxis, the mosquito queen. I'd rather say the Mosquito B*tch!!, hovered higher, her massive wings spread across the whole area alone, the gales it made were strong enough to scatter even the strongest metal found on earth. Quick reminder, I am Daniel, The Narrator.

And I am Zach, the Author. Thats all enjoy!!

I thought you were gonna say something, Z!?

No worries they knows our name thats all for now, D.

Alex rolled his shoulders once, tightened his grip on his dagger, and spoke under his breath.

"Alright, you wanna end this? Then... Let's end this parade."

The serpent lunged again, this time faster. Alex sidestepped, pressing his palm to the damp ground as he slid under the serpent's strike. A thin layer of poison glimmered on the floor, and he used it to his advantage, sliding across like a blade through silk. He thrust his dagger upward, cutting a long gash through the serpent's lower jaw.

Green blood poured, hissing as it touched the floor. The smell of burning acid filled the cavern. Veregon shrieked, pulling back, smashing its tail against the ground.

The impact shattered the stone under Alex's feet. He lost balance, and that's when the mosquito queen dove down.

A blur of wings, a glint of emerald.

Alex dropped to a crouch, spinning on his heel and throwing his dagger upward with all his strength. The blade caught the mosquito's wing mid-dive, slicing it in half. Maraxis let out a screech, crashed against the wall and it shook the dungeon

[Target Damaged: -15% HP]

Alex's dagger clattered to the ground. He dashed toward it, but Veregon's tail slammed down in front of him, blocking the way.

The serpent reared its head, opening its fanged mouth wide. The air went off around it, and what followed was just the sonically found attacks that Alex figured was one of Veregon's abilities. Well yeah, I guess it could be though

[Skill Detected: Venom Burst]

"Not today buddy!!," Alex growled.

He sprinted toward the serpent head-on, closing the distance just as the acid breath erupted from its mouth. The venom splashed across his face, his body, the ground, but it didn't burn him anymore, guess the system really does his job well, keeping Alex alive. The droplets evaporated off his skin like vapours in the sun.

[Toxin Negated.]

He grinned.

"Your poison doesn't work on me anymore, buddy."

With a single leap, Alex vaulted onto the serpent's body, running along its scaled back as the beast twisted violently. He reached its head, grabbed his dagger from the ground mid-motion, and plunged it straight into the serpent's left eye.

A scream of pure rage shook the cavern. Veregon's massive body writhed uncontrollably, crashing into the walls and pillars, bringing down chunks of rock and poison crystals from the ceiling.

[Boss Veregon HP: 25% Remaining]

The mosquito queen recovered, furious, and shot forward. Its wings glowed, charged with mana. The ground beneath her shimmered and burst into tiny pools of acid. She darted toward Alex, her stinger aimed right for his back.

He twisted at the last moment, caught the incoming stinger with his left arm, it pierced his armor clean through.

But this time, he didn't flinch.

The poison pumped into his body instantly, but his new skill nullified it. Thanks system!

[Adaptive Reaction Detected.]

[Toxin Resistance Activated.]

[Temporary Buff: Strength +10 | Speed +5 for 30 seconds.]

[Buff: Willpower had been activated, all your stats have been increased by 30%]

"Oh," Alex in his mind muttered. "That Toxin one is new, but I'll take that and the other buffs, I kinda like you more now new life."

Using the power rushing through him, he yanked the mosquito closer by its own stinger and slammed the dagger into its abdomen. Its blood exploded outward the whole area, coating the ground and what laid in here. The queen shrieked, and drew violently, wings flaring as she tried to pull free, but Alex didn't let go.

He twisted and turned the blade, going much deeper for a wound that won't be able to even get recovered.

"Take the strike back for earlier what you did!!" He smirked and said it, I guess he was happy he was winning now. Lets say not fully but only the Mosquito.

With one final strike and a push that was gonna be beyond his own strength, he took it personal again and sliced it upward, splitting the mosquito's body open into two parts. It collapsed and didn't seemed to move now, its wings giving up the urge to be free off like it had seen a human with tasty blood, but was killed in a single shot.

[Boss Maraxis Defeated]

[Quest Progress: 3/4 Bosses Defeated]

Alex fall straight to his head, his breathing heavy, his arm still not okay by the fact it had killed a literal boss with this hands with almost in the verge kf death. But still the other, I mean Veregon wasn't dead yet.

And it was not happy, but lets say its like Mom when she wants us to get along ain't it, Z.

Well described, D.

Its tail whipped around the whole area, smashing through walls, stones and Yeilding/Mana crystals. The glow from its whole body intensified as if it was never gonna win against Alex in its normal form so it had to take up backup. It was way terrifying, cause it was swallowing and absorbing the body and the venoms and powers of the mosquito queen held, maybe flying!? I hope so.

Alex's eyes widened with surprise and awe, as well as shocked I guess. We'd been traumatizing him for a while now. "No way…the Fuck!? I came here to fight the last bosses not their combined form!!"

[Boss Veregon Evolving...]

[Prepare for more lateral Damage....]

[Due to immense bloodlust of Veregon, your stats have been decreased by 5%]

Great!! A hybrid just when I said u don't like these insects, or whatever that may be, ugh...ewwww..gross.

The form of Veregon began to change, its scales grew darker as if the blood of Maraxis had enhanced its capabilities and made it stronger, sharper, wings coming out from its back now. Its scream filled the whole dungeon even making the other monsters go into hiding, not even letting a single one go out of their respective places of hide.

I hate it whenever you make things complicated and I have to narrate it!!

Be grateful you're my narrator, and not my sidekick.

Ain't nobody wants to be your sidekick, Z.

And nobody wants you as their narrator unlike me, D.

The entire place began to collapse, stone broke down as Alex had to dodge as well as stay away from that ceiling, wait he smirked!? Aahhh I know that smile Author!! It means he has a plan!!

Oh yes, I can see it.

Alex tightly grabbed his dagger, he looked kinda nervous compared to when he was fighting both, maybe cause he was now fighting both again but in a cooler way, or lets say he just doesn't wanna get killed.

"Fine. You think you're all cool? Well lemme show ya who's cooler."
