Chapter 3 - RULES

Xavier opened his eyes in a completely normal room. Unlike before, when he threw up from teleporting, he only felt his stomach stir wildly for a brief moment before everything returned to normal again.

Looking around, he finally took in the sight of where he was. It was a room, not too big. Just enough to house the 2 bunk beds and 4 wardrobes. The rest of the space was just for passage.

"Are you our new roommate?" A voice came from the top of the bunk bed to his left.

"I guess so," Xavier nodded.

The boy jumped from the top of the bed, landing fluidly on the floor with a soft thud.

His hair was fiery red, and his eyes black.

"Why is your body so disheveled?" The boy, standing at a towering 7 ft, asked, scrutinizing Xavier's body.

From the other beds, two other boys came out.

One was about the same height as Xavier, 6'2. His hair was black, same with his eyes.

The other was shorter, about 5'7. Blue eyes and white hair.

"I just got discharged, and I appeared here," he said.

"Yeah, that's so much like Madam Alice," the tallest among them said with a smile.

"My name is Aiden," he said, stretching his hand for a handshake.

Xavier reciprocated. "Xavier."

"This one is Morgan," Aiden pointed at the one with black hair.

"This is Jordan," he gestured to the last one.

"Hi," Xavier waved timidly.

Morgan quickly took his hand. "You are late. How do you want to catch up?"

Without hesitation, he went to one of the wardrobes.

The sight made Xavier furrow his brows. The wardrobe looked more like a bookshelf than a normal wardrobe.

The clothes in it were fewer than ten at a glance. But it was filled to the brim with books.

Digging through them, he finally brought two out. The pages in both were obviously not many, about 7 for the first and a single page for the other.

"Good night, try to keep up with his teaching," Aiden jumped up with a salute-like gesture.

Jordan nodded with a smile, then entered his bed, just below Aiden.

"This here is the rules of the academy. I wrote them all during orientation, and this is the timetable," Morgan smiled as he spoke.

Xavier nodded. "What do I do with them?"

"You read them, I will also assist you, not like we have any class until 6 pm, about 30 minutes."

Xavier nodded. He was not bold enough to refuse help from someone he barely knew.

"First, the rules," Morgan opened the first page of the rule book.

"All cadets are to get into the main campus before 7 am," he read slowly, to let the words sink in to Xavier.

"Are there punishments for not arriving early?" Xavier asked.

"You are really smart, unlike certain people," Morgan sneered.

"The academy reserves the right to punish students. Since there have been no latecomers since we resumed, I don't know the magnitude of the punishment," Morgan explained.

Xavier nodded.

"The next is the uniform; you are to wear your kinetic suits provided by the academy for every class."

"I wasn't given one, though," Xavier raised his hand, like he was scared of interfering with his teacher's lessons.

"There is one in every wardrobe, and yours should be in that one," Morgan pointed to the last wardrobe on the row.

"No matter what, all students are to follow the instructions of the instructors, unless it will bring self-harm."

Xavier nodded. 'That is a good clause; if it were not added, some instructors might exploit students,' Xavier mused.

"Leaving the dorm after curfew at 10 pm is prohibited, and that's all for the rules," Morgan smiled.

"But there are more pages left," Xavier said, his eyes locked into the book.

"That's next, the duties of cadets. It is not that much, about 2 or 3, but they are very essential."

"First is sanitation. All cadets are to clean the state their academy is in once every month. There will be rewards based on efficiency, and the use of powers is allowed as long as it does not affect the livelihood of civilians."

"Everyone knows that, I see them cleaning our area most of the time," Xavier remarked.

"Yep, I also just got to know that it was an obligation," Aiden added from the top of his bed.

"Don't interrupt us, you are distracting Xavier," Morgan yelled.

"Actually, it is not affecting me," Xavier said slowly.

"I know you are just too timid to tell him your mind, don't worry, I will do it for you," Morgan yelled.

"Shut the fuck up," Jordan's voice boomed from beneath Aiden's bed in annoyance.

"Tch!"

"Next is the field practice. Cadets will constantly get paired with heroes to take down villains. Students are chosen at random, too. That's all," Morgan closed his book. "Do you have any questions?" He asked.

"Two questions. Why are you in the dorm since you are meant to be on the main campus?"

"Break. As long as a student gets their morning work out done, and does not have any class, they can stay in the dorm till their next class," Morgan said with a proud voice.

"Are you sure you don't want to know the punishment for latecomers? The time is 5:57," Xavier pointed at the wall clock.

Morgan just smiled. "We have one of the fastest chauffeurs in the academy," he pointed at Jordan.

"His skill is teleportation, a prime-tier skill," he smiled.

"Since I have started it, I might as well talk about Aiden's and mine. Aiden's skill is amplification, which allows him to increase the strength of any part of his body by 10x. It is pseudo X-tier, and mine is force field generation, prime tier too," He revealed all of them, not even batting an eyelid.

Then he felt them, the intense gaze of 2 pairs of eyes that seemed to see through his soul.

"He is our dorm mate and teammate, and we will be paired in simulations from now on. Is it bad to tell him our powers?" Morgan shrugged.

The others just sighed.

"So, what is your skill? I told you ours already," Morgan asked, already turning away from Aiden and Jordan.
