The battle lasted only two minutes. Ariados's Trainer, like the two before him, panicked when he heard Ariados's cries of agony from within the Smokescreen. Coupled with Jack's mind-games, he was ultimately intimidated and conceded by exchanging his number plate.
Once the Smokescreen dissipated, seeing Ariados unharmed and hearing Jack's explanation, Ariados's Trainer was so furious he almost spat blood. He left after uttering a threat.
"You're ruthless, kid! I'll admit defeat this time. I hope you can continue to win with such petty tricks in the future."
He feared that if he stayed any longer, he would lose control and strangle the scoundrel who had tricked him out of his number plate.
"Excellent. At this rate, it won't be long before I get the number 1 plate."
Jack, having acquired the number 12 plate, was in a cheerful mood and began searching for the Trainer with the number 9 plate. After about five minutes of searching, he finally found them in the furthest corner of the park. The Trainer with the number 9 plate was currently battling the Trainer with the number 7 plate. Jack waited quietly by the side.
However, he hadn't waited long before a man and a young woman approached.
"Brother, want to have a battle?" The man nudged Jack's shoulder.
Jack turned his head and then raised an eyebrow because he saw that the young woman next to the man was none other than the Breloom Trainer who had been tricked by Mew using tactic number 2 earlier.
"You lost and can't accept it, so you brought someone for revenge?" Jack looked at the young woman mockingly.
The young woman angrily said, "Stop talking nonsense. Just tell me if you dare to have a fair and square duel with my brother."
Jack shrugged, "Of course, but since it's a duel, there should be a stake, right? Will it be prize money or number plates? I'm telling you, if it's prize money, I want ten thousand, that way it's more interesting. If it's number plates, I only accept challenges for plates 1 to 8."
As soon as he finished speaking, Jack saw the man calmly pull out the number 2 plate.
"I wonder if this one qualifies to challenge you," the man said sarcastically, "The owner of the number 1 plate has already entered the Gym to challenge. As long as you can defeat me, you'll be the next one to challenge the Gym. Of course, if you lose, I don't want any money from you, just an exchange of your Quilava for my sister's Breloom. What do you say, dare you?"
Jack chuckled after hearing this. So, after all that, they weren't seeking revenge, but rather had their eyes on his Quilava.
"I can, but... it'll cost more. If I win, besides the number 2 plate, I also want prize money."
Jack couldn't help but feel a surge of mischief. How dare they try to get his Mew? He wouldn't rest until he had thoroughly swindled this brother and sister duo.
"How much?" The man didn't refuse; instead, he asked for the amount.
"Everything. If I win, besides the number plate, I want all your money," Jack said, "How about it, dare you? After all, I'm wagering my main Pokémon against your sister's useless Pokémon."
After speaking, Jack looked directly into the man's eyes. If he showed even a hint of hesitation, Jack would immediately use provocation.
"Alright."
To Jack's surprise, the man didn't hesitate at all and agreed decisively. This reaction, however, made Jack start to waver, his gaze shifting back and forth between the man and his sister.
This guy couldn't have given all his money to his sister, could he? Otherwise, why would he agree so readily?
The man noticed the suspicion in Jack's eyes, then pulled out his phone and showed Jack his 148,000 savings. Jack no longer hesitated and accepted the challenge. Not making money when you can is foolish.
Since he didn't give the money to his sister, it meant he had a Pokémon under his command that he considered extremely powerful. Otherwise, he would never dare to be so arrogant.
However, no matter how arrogant he was, could he be as arrogant as his Mew? Unless he also had a Legendary Pokémon. But that was impossible. If he had a Legendary Pokémon, why would he even look at his Quilava?
Just like Jack, with the Legendary Pokémon System, his eyes were only on Legendary Pokémon. All other Pokémon were mere fodder in his eyes.
That's right, all fodder! His mindset was just that arrogant!
Two minutes later, Jack followed the siblings to an empty training ground. The man was the first to release his Pokémon.
"Come out, Feraligatr."
A red light flashed, and a robust, blue-skinned bipedal alligator with a mouth full of fangs and serrated red bone plates on its head, back, and tail emerged. It was the final evolution of the Water-type Totodile, one of the Original Three Starters of the Johto Region. It possessed an extremely terrifying bite force; it was rumored that a light bite could kill an opponent.
"No wonder he's so confident." Jack chuckled, then also released his Quilava, which was Mew in disguise.
"Quilava, just like before, first use Smokescreen to cover the entire battleground," Jack ordered.
Quilava responded with a cry and began spewing black smoke from its mouth.
"Kid, do you only know how to play dirty tricks? Do you think that move will still work on me?" The man sneered.
His sister had already told him how Jack had outsmarted her. If he still fell for it, wouldn't he be a complete idiot?
"Feraligatr, Agility! After getting close to Quilava, use Aqua Tail." The man commanded. Although he felt he wouldn't fall for it, he wouldn't foolishly sit by and watch Quilava cover the entire area with Smokescreen.
Feraligatr roared in response, obeying its Trainer's command, and placed its hands on the ground. Looking at the Quilava spewing smoke not far away, its eyes suddenly sharpened. The next second, like a fierce hound, it abruptly charged towards Quilava with astonishing speed.
Almost instantly, Feraligatr reached Quilava. At the same time, its tail lashed out like a raging wave towards Quilava. The momentum suggested that if it hit Quilava, it could very likely knock it out in one blow.
"It's over." The man said coldly.
He saw that Jack didn't even order Quilava to dodge, assuming he was intimidated by Feraligatr's swift speed. He immediately felt certain of victory.
"Excellent, in that case, this Quilava with its special skill will be mine."
But the next second, the man's cold expression froze. Because the Quilava in the arena easily dodged Feraligatr's Aqua Tail. It was as agile as a loach; no matter how Feraligatr swung its thick tail, it just couldn't hit.
"What are you pretending about?"
At this moment, a mocking voice reached the man's ear. He turned his head and saw Jack looking at him with a sneer.
"You wouldn't think that if I don't give an order, my Quilava won't dodge, would you?" Jack chuckled, "Blockhead, you should train your Pokémon's independent thinking. Don't let them just follow your commands robotically. Sometimes, you should let them figure out how to battle on their own."
"And what are you pretending about?"
Seeing Jack start to lecture him just because Quilava dodged one move, the man immediately flared up.
"Feraligatr, Ice Bite! Attack with Aqua Tail!"
Feraligatr roared, and its fanged maw began to emit a cold mist. This move has both freezing and fear effects. Once it bites the opponent, there's a certain chance of freezing them and making them flinch.
