Chapter 159 - Expedition.

By the time we reached the sitting chamber, the earlier tension of the court had softened into something quieter, more contained. Elias did not waste time.

With a small gesture to the attendants waiting nearby, he instructed them to prepare tea, his tone calm but leaving no room for delay. The maids moved quickly, bowing before disappearing to carry out his orders, while the rest of us settled into the room.

I took my seat first, the cushioned chair positioned perfectly by the low table. Maribel stood just behind me as she always did, composed and attentive, while Cassian took his place behind Elias with the same silent vigilance. The arrangement was so familiar it was able to calm the tension after leaving court.

The tea arrived soon after.

Delicate porcelain cups were set before us, steam rising faintly as the scent of brewed leaves filled the space. I reached for mine, taking a small sip before setting it back down, my gaze shifting to Elias as I decided not to waste time.
