Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

Isla's Pov

Isla made her way to her Office. She had spent the night in her penthouse after Dante left, much too tired to return to Adrian's mansion. She was unsure whether or not she was there would make no difference to him; hell, he probably wouldn't even notice.

One thing he would notice for sure, is if she wasn't at her desk by the time he came. Even though it had not stopped pouring once since yesterday, an asshole like Mr. Adrian would still expect everyone to be at work the same time as a normal day, maybe even earlier.

She rushed to her table, setting up quickly before he walked in, from the expression on his face, it was clear he was in a terrible mood,

"Good Morning, Sir," Isla said, only to be ignored as he walked past her without even glancing at her. She fought the urge to roll her eyes as she took all his documents and schedules, rushing in after him.

"You have quite several activities today, Sir," She started, but before she could get to the activities he had, he interrupted her, asking the question she never thought he'd ask her.

"Where were you last night?" He asked, his eyes blazing with anger as he stared into her eyes, doing his best attempt to make her shrink. Unfortunately for him, Isla didn't give a fuck.

"I had other engagements, why?" She asked, immediately dropping the professional act. They had both agreed to act professionally when at work. Her because it was what he wanted and she had once been so desperate to please, and him because he genuinely never wanted anyone to know they were actually married.

"You had other engagements like what Isla?" He snapped, the impatience in his voice prominent.

Isla rolled her eyes in disbelief, he had always been the worst type of shit, but to think he would have the nerve to ask her questions like that, when it was to everyone he was cheating on her, she blamed herself, what did she ever see in this man?

"I don't have to tell you anything Adrian, our relationship is not that serious or close, now do you want to hear what's on your schedule today? Or do I need to leave?" Isla snapped back, she was not about to let this man speak to her anyway he felt.

Times like this made her so glad she accepted Dante's offer, bringing this man to his knees would look so good, it was worth letting Dante back into her life even.

She had tried to convince herself she didn't care about that, she didn't need Dante's help to hurt him, but it was all a lie and she was grateful for just how stubborn Dante was, how his refusal to accept her rejection had made her end up accepting him after all, she would have been pissed if she didn't right now.

Adrian remained silent as he glared down at her, his disapproval obvious as hell. He swallowed down whatever words he wanted to spit out and degrudgely asked for his schedule.

"Read out the schedule," He said, his voice sounded like he was irritated, but had accepted that his question would not be answered.

"That's what I thought," Isla said before she continued to read out his schedule, in the back of her mind she made a mental note to let Dante know about Adrian's questions, this was the first time he had ever asked her where she was, she hadn't even released anything yet, but she couldn't have him going suspicious and potentially ruining her whole plans.

****************

Isla finally got some peace after Adrian left for his series of meetings. Luckily for her, she had employed a new assistant who would be in charge of accompanying him to meetings.

She had barely gotten any downtime today, all day he has had tasks for her to do, almost as if he was purposely trying to keep her busy. She didn't want to begin assuming the worst, but he made it so hard not to. She would take him down, one way or another, he could stay on too her as long as he wanted but he'd never be able to stop the karma she had taken upon herself to serve.

She looked around before sliding out her personal laptop to go through the files Dante had sent her earlier today. Even though they had just agreed last night, he already had details waiting for her by the time she had managed to drag herself out of bed.

He worked so damn fast.

She went through the documents, fascinated even more. How did she think she would have done this all by herself? Dante's team was most likely an expert at this, granted she was good because well she had been his secretary for a while, but she should have known there were so many easier ways.

After she finished going through the documents, she saw a small note at the end, making her roll her eyes and try to stop the flush that rushed to her cheeks.

'You're move, Mia Regina. Wolfe's London Accounts. Make sure you erase all traces.'

Beneath it, were bank access codes, names, pictures, and the signatures of board members Adrian had bribed years ago. Just taking in all the information made her a bit dizzy.

"War is on, Adrian," She whispered to herself, her excitement palpable as she began working on those.

**********

By late evening after she had clocked out of work, she sat in the small office of a little building she had acquired for herself.

Her assistant, Rosa, came in and briefed her on the news, Wolfe Corporations had taken her bait. They had dipped another six percent.

She smirked and once Rosa left, she reopened the encrypted file Dante had sent her that morning. Photos, ledgers, timestamps, all the proof required to show just how corrupt Adrian's cooperation was.

By morning, these will be all over the news, and no one will have an idea where they came from. It would be the beginning of Adrian's downfall, and then she could focus her attention on her little bitch of a sister...Celeste.

Her hands shook as she went through it all one last time, not out of fear, but out of the sheer excitement of it all.

She looked for anything that would clue she had any hand in this, and found nothing. She applauded herself silently, she did a clean ass Job!

Just as she began to celebrate, a phone rang. Her private number, the one no one else but Dante had. Guess that was the sign.

She tapped the button and sent it, relaxing back in her chair satisfied, and let the chaos begin.
