"Guidos, thank you for your hard work," Guilliman said.
Guidos was chosen from among the psykers who were willing to pledge allegiance to him. He was responsible for maintaining the Mechanicus' avatar deep within Macragge's Glory.
This area of the Macragge's Glory was kept under absolute secrecy, and even loyalists like Sicarius were not allowed to enter freely.
"It is my greatest honor to serve my master," Guidos said respectfully, raising his pure white eyes.
"It is my honor to have your allegiance. Let's officially begin the work. I need to know what message Cawl sent me so that I can be in control of the overall situation," Guilliman nodded and said.
Guidos nodded and turned to walk into the deep darkness.
Guilliman followed him in.
The further they walked, the more they felt the scorching heat. Machines hidden somewhere began to hum.
An uncomfortable psychic pressure heavily assailed Guilliman.
Guilliman endured the discomfort and followed behind Guidos.
The two finally arrived in front of a large door.
The door's structure was complex, composed of three interlocking layers of bonded tortoise shell mesh, each a meter thick.
When they reached the door, Guidos slightly stepped aside, and Guilliman walked forward to undergo identity verification.
A red light scanned the Primarch's pupils.
"Retinal scan passed."
After the retinal scan, various security check devices extended from the steel wall.
They tested the Primarch's physical, psychological, and mental state.
Only after everything was confirmed to be correct was Guilliman allowed to enter the secret chamber.
The two stepped into the room. It was a deep darkness, and nothing could be seen.
"Lighting," Guidos called out.
The mechanical equipment in the room hummed, and then turned into a low rumble.
One after another, white light sources lit up above the room, illuminating its outline.
The details of the room were also clearly visible. Ten sealed panels were arranged at eye level, and pipes were tightly secured to the ceiling with metal nails.
"Cawl's psychic communication is unusually dull, lacking the vitality that comes from a mind touching the vast void. I suspect he might be using a machine to send it, and although I once thought such a thing impossible, I must say he is a master."
"You could say that," Guilliman shrugged. If he didn't have the database, Archmagos Cawl would definitely be the one with the most knowledge among humans.
He had lived for ten thousand years, truly and genuinely lived for ten thousand years, which was unimaginable for other beings in the Imperium.
The human perpetuals either died in the Horus Heresy or disappeared during that rebellion.
From the currently known information, Cawl is the one who has lived the longest in the Imperium.
"His information is very simple and will not suffer the corruption that psychic communication often experiences after the Great Rift opened. Cawl's information has not been interfered with or maliciously tampered with. This technology is extremely precious to us now. The Great Rift has changed a lot and has put the fate of our race in jeopardy."
"This situation will change, Guidos, I promise," Guilliman said.
"I believe that, my lord," Guidos stepped towards a large machine that occupied a significant area.
"By the will of the Omnissiah, initialization sequence."
Guidos leaned on his staff and spoke the activation code.
A series of soft creaking sounds came from the curved steel wall, followed by the harsh sound of machinery.
Scanning beams radiated from the wall, scanning the people in front of it.
"Identity confirmed, Astropath, Guidos. Please provide the second unlock."
At the prompt of the mechanical voice, Guilliman stepped forward and let the beam scan him.
"Identity confirmed, Primarch: Roboute Guilliman, Regent of the Imperium of Man, Lord of Ultramar."
"Identity scan passed, gene scan initiated."
A horizontal green beam shot out from the wall and spread upwards and downwards, scanning the Primarch and the Astropath.
"Gene scan confirmed, identity confirmed, require confirmation of cipher."
Along with the sound, Guilliman's position was covered by a cone of light, and all sounds were blocked out.
The cipher was given to Guidos by Cawl and was absolutely confidential; even the Primarch was not allowed to know that part of the cipher.
This measure was to prevent Guilliman's memory from being read, which would lead to the destruction of the encrypted communication.
Cawl had stated about this, "Never underestimate Chaos, they are much smarter than we imagine."
After Guidos finished speaking the cipher, the sound-blocking shield covering Guilliman disappeared.
A sound-blocking shield rose around Guidos.
Guilliman spoke his part of the cipher.
"Cipher check passed, primary system activated."
Accompanied by the mechanical sound, the metal panels on the wall slid down one by one.
Behind each panel was a lit tempered glass cabinet.
Each glass cabinet was filled with nutrient solution, in which severed human heads were immersed.
The necks of the heads were wrapped in metal plates, and neat cables and pipes extending from small holes below were connected to the machine above the glass cabinet.
The machines hidden behind the panels quickly started, and the sound of the equipment running became softer. The circuits etched on the cabinet glass also flickered with the same light, and the faces of those human heads began to twist and become painful.
"My lord," Guidos said softly.
"Mm, you may leave," Guilliman waved his hand.
After performing the Aquila salute again, Guidos put on his hood and walked towards the darkness.
Guilliman did not pay attention to his departure but watched as the circuits in the room were activated one by one.
A dull metallic sound rang out.
It was the Archmagos' voice, like rubbing brass, devoid of any emotion.
"My lord Primarch."
"Cawl, how is the progress?" Guilliman asked.
Talking to Guilliman was Cawl's avatar, or rather, his sub-personality.
Cawl would convert the relevant information into code and send it out. After being received by Macragge's Glory, it would be converted back into information.
The avatar would use this information to talk to Guilliman.
This kind of technology had already touched a certain red line in the Imperium.
This was also one of the reasons why Guilliman trusted Cawl.
Without his protection, once Cawl's technology was leaked, being burned at the stake would be a light punishment. It was estimated that his brain would be directly taken offline, molded into a servitor, and his mental consciousness would be used by his enemies for various inhumane experiments.
The radical Cawl had offended many conservative Archmagi, and the conflict between them was irreconcilable. If it weren't for the existence of the Imperium, they would have probably gone to war in the name of the Omnissiah long ago.
"The situation with the Archmagi is progressing well. New technology has been applied, and the Primaris space marine project is being initiated. The Space Marines will undergo four more technological improvements: Sinew Coils, Sainted Pituitary, Belisarius Furnace, and Guilliman's Heart modification."
"Guilliman's Heart??" Guilliman frowned.
"Yes, the Archmagos has received a completely new inspiration from your technology. The gene-engine in the super-soldier technology will be integrated with Guilliman's Heart, which will give the warriors more possibilities.
Your wisdom is so profound and awecc-inspiring, my lord Primarch. The appearance of Guilliman's Heart will be epoch-making. It perfectly fits the human physique and can easily shape humans into superhumans.
More importantly, this peculiar organ can be remotely shut down, which can paralyze those Primaris Space Marines who are unwilling to obey the Imperium's orders. In this way, we can avoid the recurrence of the Horus Heresy to the greatest extent possible."
"The Archmagos even plans to re-modify the space marine surgical process and list Guilliman's Heart as the first organ to be implanted. In that case, it can increase the success rate of the surgery and achieve the goal of mass-producing Primaris Space Marines."
"The plan is crazy, but it is indeed worth studying. I will have someone give you more authority," Guilliman showed a slight smile, not caring about the consequences of doing so.
