Two weeks after the incident, the Commander Mo Long and his wife Madam Wen Rong, arrived in the Tensu Brigade. By this time, Mo Jinchen had already taken over as the leader and appointed his direct subordinate Lieutenant Feng Dai to deputy leader. He waited for his father to arrive at the entrance to the brigade. The military procession was hard to miss as it drove through the brigade to the Lin family home.
Mo Jinchen helped his mother out of the car while Commander Mo got out and organized the men he brought to carry the bride price and gifts. The gift ended up being fifteen chests of things and the price was only three. Mo Long glanced at his son and chuckled inside. Mo Jinchen had decided to give Lin Yue a grand wedding to make up for any dishonor he caused.
The Lin family was waiting for them in the yard. A table filled with food was to one side of the yard and the family stood protectively around a small woman in a wheelchair. She wore a beautiful soft blue cheongsam. Her hair was pinned up again with a cherry wood pin.
Mo Jinchen bowed low to her. "Miss Lin, I apologize for any dishonor on my part. The gifts are my compensation to you." Mo Long patted his son on the shoulder and spoke to the General. "Sir, I am here to give miss Lin the bride price. Lieutenant, read the list."
Lieutenant Feng Dai saluted and held up a list. "Miss Lin Yue is a gentle and talented woman. The Mo Family is honored to have her as a daughter in law. She is given, one thousand yuan, one thousand food and meat coupons, one hundred bolts of cloth in assorted colors, one thousand rolls of thread in assorted colors, one pair of white and black jade betrothal pendant, one white fox kitten, one chest of cherry, mahogany and oak hair pins, two pairs of female riding boots, two pairs of female ankle boots. A mated pair of horses. One cherry wood sewing machine, one cherry wood radio, a silver watch with a soft blue leather band, in a cherry wood box. A new wardrobe in cherry wood, new bedroom set, and living room set, all in cherry wood."
Lin Yue smiled and accepted the list from Feng Dai. Mo Jinchen stepped forward and placed the watch and a white jade pendant in her hands. "I hope you like the gifts."
Lin Yue pulled out a wrapped gift from her chair. She spoke to him for the first time. "Thank you, Jinchen, for saving my life. I was not dishonored when you saved me. But, I will marry you and be a good wife. This is a gift to thank you for being a true hero to me." Mo Jinchen took her gift and opened it. The glossy black leather was designed to look like an envelope. The word Samurai was embroidered in bold blue across the front and his name was embroidered in the same blue on the back. "It's a wallet. You put your money and Identification card in it. I can make them in several different designs." Mo Jinchen grinned and immediately put the wallet in his jacket pocket. "I like it, thank you." Lin Yue beamed with her happiness.
Lin Jinkai nodded to the table. "Lets discuss the wedding over a meal. We plan to give Yue-Yue the ancestral home. It's at the base of the mountain, with five rooms and a beautiful courtyard garden. The home has a fruit orchard that needs to be maintained and a koi pond that I have to stock, but it will be a wonderful home once we repair a few things." Mo Long followed the General and they spoke about the wedding. The Mo Family would take on repairing the home and Lin Yue would be married from the Lin family home into the new home. Mo Jinchen would set up the furniture and clean up the orchard and garden. "I'll renovate a room for Yue-Yue to use as a workshop. She has a talent in embroidery and I don't want her to be strictly a housewife. She can have her own dream." Lin Yue smiled as Jinchen placed the deboned fish in her rice bowl. Fu Ping smiled at the interaction between the two. She was worried that Mo Jinchen would be a cold man, but she could see that Wen Rong raised her son to respect women. "What about her wedding clothes? We could order a dress." Wen Rong asked Fu Ping. "Yue-Yue is going to make the clothes. She has already sewn the dress and suit for Jinchen, she just has to finish embroidering the design. It's a work of art. She went with a traditional wedding cheongsam and suit for Jinchen. She did them in red and dark teal with golden embroidery. I won't say more because the design is a surprise."
Lin Jinkai chuckled. "She made a set for each of us for the wedding. When they are done I'll deliver them to the new house for you."
"Is your injuries alright? Will it affect the wedding?" Lin Yue smiled. "The doctor says I'll be fine by the day before the wedding. Mother has helped me and her care has sped up the healing process." Lin Yue placed food in Jinchen's bowl as she spoke to Wen Rong.
Lin Yuqin, Lin Jinkai, and Lin Muqin nodded to the side and Mo Jinchen rose from his seat. He gently patted Lin Yue on the shoulder. "I'll be right back, your brothers want a word." Yue looked up at him with worry but nodded. He smiled at her gentle attitude.
He joined the brothers at the side of the yard. "Do you like our sister, Captain? We get that propriety demands this wedding, but we don't want her to suffer." Yuqin asked him out right. He loved his sister, the incident was a blow to him because he was not there. Mo Jinchen looked at each brother in turn, they each were nearly identical to Lin Yue. "I first noticed Lin Yue when I arrived in the brigade to learn how to be it's leader. She was turning in her harvest of feed. I thought she was beautiful, she was so soft spoken and gentle. I at first thought she was a timid girl, until I saw her beating a man for trying to touch her. Then I believed her to be the perfect wife when I saw her helping a child when he fell. I wanted to meet her first and get to know her, then I would have asked for her hand from her parents before doing anything. But fate is a funny thing. I had to save the woman of my dreams. Make no mistake, I love your sister. Like is too weak a word for how I feel for her." The brothers were stunned, they didn't know he had his eyes on her from the start. They remembered each time a man would approach their sister, he would disappear, and they weren't the ones scaring him off. It had to be Captain Mo.
"We are over protective of Yue, because when she was young a man tried to steal her into the mountains. Father had to kill that man to save her, and she has been shy of men ever since. For her to get close to you means she feels safe with you. Please be gentle with her. We don't know what that man did to her, Father would not say, nor will she."
Mo Jinchen frowned but nodded. He would treasure Yue, he didn't care what she went through only that it could have been painful and he wouldn't allow that. "Yue owns my heart, what she says is law to me." After they finished their conversation, Jinchen returned to Yue and continued to pamper her by feeding her food and showering her in love. He would investigate the incident at the river, and the mountain man. Then he would exact revenge on the man who threw his Yue in the river.
