Chapter 5: The Kid That Goes Away
Metropolis, USA.
Derek Davidson—now known as Transition—continued investigating the mysterious Cripo Project from his apartment.
Files were scattered across the table.
Government documents. Mutation reports. Secret project records.
Derek carefully studied every piece of information he had gathered.
Then suddenly—
WHOOSH!
Someone appeared directly in front of him.
A young superhero wearing a dark-blue suit stood inside the apartment.
His superhero name was Go Away Boy, although some people called him The Kid That Goes Away.
His superpower was simple.
Teleportation.
He could teleport himself almost anywhere instantly.
Go Away Boy immediately attacked Transition.
But Derek didn't even look surprised.
He simply smiled.
Transition: "Teleportation?"
Go Away Boy disappeared.
WHOOSH!
He reappeared behind Derek.
But before he could attack—
Derek vanished.
Go Away Boy's eyes widened.
Go Away Boy: "What?"
Derek had already used Transitioning.
Go Away Boy teleported again.
WHOOSH!
He appeared somewhere else.
But Derek was already there.
Go Away Boy tried to teleport away again.
WHOOSH!
Derek disappeared first.
The superhero suddenly found himself standing in a completely different environment.
A volcanic region.
Heat surrounded him.
He looked around in confusion.
Go Away Boy: "Where am I?!"
Derek's voice came from nowhere.
Transition: "You wanted to know who's faster."
Go Away Boy immediately attempted to teleport.
But Derek had already made his move.
Transition: "You were already too late."
In a single transition, Derek relocated Go Away Boy into the volcano.
Go Away Boy was unable to escape in time.
He died almost instantly.
Derek stood alone in his apartment again.
The entire confrontation had lasted only moments.
He looked back at the Cripo Project files.
Transition: "Teleportation isn't the same as Transitioning."
He picked up another document.
Transition: "They disappear and reappear."
Derek smiled.
Transition: "I decide where the transition happens."
He continued reading.
Go Away Boy had believed that teleportation would allow him to catch Transition.
Instead, he had made the biggest mistake of his life.
Transition's ability wasn't simply another form of teleportation.
It was faster.
More versatile.
And, in Derek's hands, almost impossible to predict.
Transition: "If you think you can beat me by going somewhere else…"
Derek looked toward the window overlooking Metropolis.
Transition: "…remember that I can choose where you go."
The investigation continued.
And the mystery surrounding the Cripo Project became deeper.
