Chapter 172 - Favoring One over the Other

Lex coughed a few times: "No, you misunderstood. I am very healthy; I don't have any major illnesses. It's just that, according to my Family's arrangements, I will soon join the Royal Navy. I will go and fight those pirates, contributing to the peace of our Sea."

The lady with slightly curly brown hair placed the bouquet on a nearby table, her eyes showing a hint of playful amusement: "Is that so? Well, I was just joking earlier, I hope you don't mind."

"No, I don't mind at all."

Lex blinked, then lowered his voice, speaking with a touch of mystery and a bit of boastfulness: "To be honest with you, I am a Beyonder. Hmm, the powerful kind, beyond what ordinary people can imagine."

He straightened up again and leaned back slightly against the sofa chair: "So, when I'm at Sea, I should have some unusual experiences."

"If you don't object, I'd like to share these experiences with you through letters. Perhaps they could become material for your next book."

Fors showed a flicker of surprise, exchanged a glance with the blonde girl, and then smiled politely: "Is that so? Then I will look forward to it very much."

Lex nodded, then took out his "wuthering heights" which he had bought from the bookstore that morning. He opened the cover and looked at the woman before him with an expectant expression: "Could you sign this for me?"

Fors smiled sweetly: "Of course."

Looking at the signature on the page, Lex stood up: "Thank you very much. I'm very happy to have met you today. I won't disturb you any longer. I wish you a pleasant afternoon."

He then nodded to the blonde girl: "You too, Miss whose name I don't know."

Then, Lex left.

After seeing him off, the blonde girl closed the door and looked at the bouquet on the table: "I bet he's trying to pursue you. Hmm, I smell a noble on him."

Fors, with a beaming smile, picked up the bouquet: "I won't accept, because I don't like boys younger than me. Besides, dating is too troublesome."

"By the way, is he from Desie County? Actually, I've wanted to go to Desi Bay for a long time, but every time I think about taking a boat, I lose interest. If it were closer, it would be great."

The blonde girl chuckled: "If you don't like him, then why are you smiling so happily?"

Fors looked at her: "I'm happy because I received flowers. What girl doesn't like flowers? And you, Xio I see anger on your face. Are you annoyed because he showed favoritism?"

"Don't mind it, he only gave you one rose. Perhaps he thinks you're still young."

The blonde girl namedXio blushed and said firmly: "I'm not young, in every respect!"

On the way back to Evergreen Street, Lex was very satisfied with his performance today. He felt that he had successfully left a deep impression on Miss Fors.

Revealing his identity as a Beyonder perfectly portrayed the image of an impulsive young noble and laid the groundwork for future correspondence.

Lex remembered that the Watcher had said Fors would have a teacher from the Abraham Family. In other words, she was also a Beyonder.

Then, she shouldn't refuse to communicate with him, after all, Beyonders can always find common topics among themselves.

This way, he would be able to gradually learn about Abraham and this Family, which once held an important position in the Solomon Empire, through her.

He would use this to enrich his knowledge in the mysterious field.

Soon, Lex saw the subway entrance. At this moment, he noticed a young man in an old overcoat standing next to the entrance.

The man looked around nervously, then pulled a coin from his pocket and tossed it.

After catching it, he seemed to make a decision, left the subway entrance, and disappeared into the passing crowd in a blink of an eye.

"This couldn't be a Seer, could it?"

Although Lex was a little suspicious, he didn't take it too seriously. After all, Backlund was a bustling city with five million people. Even if the proportion of Beyonders was small, if the base was magnified to five million, it wouldn't be surprising to occasionally encounter one or two.

He walked into the subway entrance, and before he even saw the platform, he heard a few annoyed, complaining voices from behind.

Then Lex felt someone push past him. He subtly swayed, and then saw a tall, thin man squeeze past him.

He had soft, light yellow hair, deep-set features, and cold eyes that reminded one of certain scavengers.

He seemed to be looking for something, and after looking around, he went in another direction.

After this small interlude, Lex finally got on the subway and returned to Evergreen Street.

Two days later, on monday, Lex received a remittance from Bison. Then, with Lynn's assistance, he signed a share transfer contract with Alik Steel Mill, acquiring 13% of the shares.

Although there was a discrepancy from Lynn's previous estimate, it was undeniable that Lex had gotten a great deal. Because in similar industries, it would be difficult for him to acquire more than 10% of the shares for 8,000 pounds.

"Cheers."

In the Arbiter's home, three wine glasses gently clinked together, the burgundy liquid swirling within them. This was a wine named after the King of Giants.

"Mr. Lynn, how should I thank you? You didn't even charge me a single penny, which makes me feel a bit uneasy," Lex took a small sip of the wine and said in surprise, "This is the best wine I've ever tasted."

Lynn laughed heartily: "Of course, this was given to me by a client from Intis, and many bastards have been coveting it."

He put down his glass and smiled: "You and Cromwell helped me once, so I just did what I should do."

"If you really feel uneasy, then please keep an eye out for the Briber's potion formula for me, or any valuable clues will do."

Briber, this was the Sequence 7 potion of the Lawyer pathway. He had skipped Sequence 8 Barbarian, so he should have already acquired the formula and was preparing for advancement.

"No problem, if I find out anything, I'll let you know immediately," Lex readily agreed.

Cromwell then said: "Duke, I have a commission here, I wonder if you're interested?"

Lex leaned back slightly: "What commission?"

"This is a request from a friend. He has a friend who is looking for a temporary bodyguard, three days, 500 pounds."

Cromwell said briefly: "Originally he hoped I would accept, but I'll be very busy recently, so I thought of you."

Cromwell should be busy collecting potion ingredients, and I am currently idle, so it's very reasonable that he thought of me first.

500 pounds for three days, this reminds me of Bridge.

That's good, I don't have much liquid capital right now, 500 pounds can tide me over for a while.

"So, who is the employer?"

The Arbiter put a piece of bacon in his mouth and said: "Kaven Brook, an Intisian, to be precise, a 'Seer'."
