After the best sleep I had gotten in weeks, I stood under the hot spray of the shower, letting the steam wash away the lingering tension from yesterday's events. The uniform felt familiar as I slipped it on, a reminder of my duty even when technically off the clock.
Elder Dwayne had granted my entire unit temporary leave until the trial proceedings began. It was supposed to give us time to familiarize ourselves with the territory and its people, but I suspected there were deeper reasons behind his decision.
Atticus and Collin were already waiting in the hallway when I emerged from my room. Their synchronized timing told me they had been coordinating this morning routine, probably to avoid another confrontation with their mother.
