"The savannah is in crisis everywhere. The farther Shani has to travel, the more difficult and dangerous it will become for her. On top of that, the Shaman will require Shani to apologize and explain her actions in front of all the tribe members."
Fiora felt that the punishment Shaman Zelka gave Shani was meant, at least in part, to protect her granddaughter.
But after thinking it through, Fiora realized something else.
Shaman Zelka and her relatives had come to this tribe because they no longer had family in any other tribe. That meant Shani had nowhere else to go. Outside the tribe, she would have no shelter, barely any food, and would be exposed to extreme weather and countless dangers.
If I think about it that way… it really is a heavy punishment, Fiora admitted inwardly. Being sent out to gather herbs is almost the same as being banished. The only difference is that she's still allowed to return, even if it takes a long time.
With that thought, Fiora felt satisfied.
