Chapter 25 - THE TABLE

He told her the night before. This was notable because he did not often prepare her for things, preferring to introduce situations at the moment they were already occurring, which she had identified early as a management tactic and had found consistently irritating.

She was reading when he came to find her. He sat across from her in the chair by the window and outlined the meeting, the families involved and the surface dispute about the Valencia operation and what he needed from her, with the functional brevity of someone giving a briefing rather than asking for help.
