Chapter 78 - Chapter 78 I can’t even lift my hammer!

"Do you really know who I am?"

Upon hearing Nick Fury's words, Thor indeed quieted down. He stopped struggling and looked at Nick Fury with suspicious eyes.

Ever since he landed on Earth, he had told countless people his identity, but no one had ever believed him.

Everyone treated him like a madman.

So, Thor didn't hold out much hope now.

"Of course, you are the son of Odin, Thor, the God of Thunder from Asgard!" Nick Fury said emphatically, "You also have a brother named Loki, right?"

"Loki! You even know Loki! That's great, it seems you must be the most intelligent person on this planet!"

Thor laughed happily, tears of emotion almost welling up in his eyes. "Especially since you also only have one eye, which makes me feel a kinship."

Nick Fury: "…"

Can we not bring that up!

And what's with you feeling kinship with my one eye, Thor!

"Natasha."

Nick Fury didn't bother arguing with Thor, who was all brawn and no brains. He gave Black Widow a look.

Black Widow immediately understood and walked over to release Thor from his restraints.

"Thank you," Thor said, stretching his limbs and thanking Black Widow and the others.

"Thor, why were you tied up here? You're a god, can't you even break free from these things?"

Iron Man couldn't help but ask from the side.

"Nick Fury, who is he?"

"Tony Stark." Iron Man stated his name, adding, "Possibly the most intelligent person on this planet."

"Is that so?" Thor expressed strong doubt. "You don't seem as smart as Nick Fury."

Iron Man: "…"

It seemed their previous assessment was spot on; Thor's head really was full of nothing but muscles.

"Listen, Nick Fury, Stark, I appreciate you saving me, but I must go now. I've lost my hammer, and I must retrieve it immediately."

Thor then said to Nick Fury and the others with an anxious look, and was about to push the door open to search for his hammer.

"Thor, we've already found your hammer," Nick Fury said to Thor from behind him.

"Is that true?" Thor was both surprised and delighted, a smile spreading across his face. "Nick Fury, I was right, you truly are the most intelligent person."

"Please wait a moment," Nick Fury said to Thor, then pulled out his phone and contacted Coulson.

He learned that Coulson had already taken care of things and completely secured and cordoned off the site.

"Let's go, Thor, we're going to get your hammer back!" Nick Fury said to Thor.

Thirty minutes later.

Everyone appeared in the outskirts southeast of the town, where a cordon had been set up, and many special agents stood guard, strictly prohibiting others from approaching.

Many townspeople gathered in the distance, pointing and watching, growing even more curious about what that hammer, which no one could lift, actually was.

"Sir!"

Coulson was already waiting on the road. After meeting up with Nick Fury and the others, he began to lead the way while explaining the situation to them.

"Nick Fury, you sent people to protect my hammer? I'm truly grateful," Thor said, seeing S.H.I.E.L.D.'s setup and expressing his gratitude. "But it's not really necessary, because no one can lift this hammer except for me."

"Is that so? To my knowledge, at least one person on Earth has lifted your hammer," Iron Man interjected, quite unseasonably, to contradict him.

In Avengers: Endgame,

Captain America, with a hammer in one hand and a shield in the other, unleashing a devastating combo on Thanos, had left a deep impression on Iron Man.

"Impossible! That's absolutely impossible!" Thor shook his head adamantly, refusing to believe it. "No one can lift it but me!"

"Thor, to my knowledge, there is indeed one person on Earth who can lift your hammer, and even summon lightning with it," Nick Fury said, agreeing with Iron Man with a serious expression.

"Oh, really? Where is he? I'd really like to see that," Thor laughed, like an innocent child, clearly not believing it at all.

As they chatted, Coulson led everyone through the cordon and to the hammer "stuck" in the ground.

"Excuse me, can I try first?" Iron Man looked eager to try.

"Of course, try it! Go ahead!" Thor shrugged, gesturing for Iron Man to proceed. "It'll be futile anyway."

Iron Man then walked unceremoniously to Mjolnir, grabbed it with both hands, and pulled upward with all his might.

But the small hammer remained perfectly still, as if it weighed a thousand pounds.

"See? None of you are worthy!" Thor walked to Mjolnir with a smile, casually placing one hand on the hammer. "Only I can…"

At this point, the smile on Thor's face froze, because after his confident grab and pull, the hammer remained perfectly still where it was.

It didn't budge an inch!

The atmosphere in the scene began to get a little awkward.

Thor had just finished saying that only he could lift the hammer, and the hammer immediately proved him wrong.

"Only I can!"

"Only I!"

"Only I!"

After failing with one hand, Thor grabbed the hammer with both hands, exerting himself repeatedly, even turning his face beet red, but he still couldn't budge the hammer in the slightest.

At this point, even if everyone was blind, they could see that Thor, the God of Thunder, was actually unable to lift Mjolnir.

"Thor, you can't even lift your hammer?" Nick Fury couldn't help but ask, frowning. This turn of events was not what he had imagined.

"Why!"

"Father, why!"

Thor was greatly shaken, as if he hadn't even heard Nick Fury's words, and just roared at the sky with a look of utter collapse.

"Sir, what should we do next?" Coulson ran over to ask for Nick Fury's opinion.

"Continue to cordon off the area; no one is allowed to approach," Nick Fury pondered for a moment before giving his orders. "Also, contact Captain Rogers and tell him to come over quickly to see if he can lift the hammer."

"If he can, have the Captain take the hammer back to S.H.I.E.L.D. We can't just leave it here."

"Understood, sir!" Coulson responded and immediately began to carry out Nick Fury's orders.

Nick Fury, meanwhile, temporarily took the disheartened Thor and found a place to settle him in the town.

From beginning to end, Thor looked listless, as if he had been dumped.
