Chapter 37 - A Love Poisoned

Chapter 37: The Killer's Heartbreak! A Love Poisoned!

"I remember now... I remember who that Shen is!"

In a dingy, dimly lit rental room located in the underbelly of Modu, the air was thick with the acrid stench of cheap alcohol, stale cigarette smoke, and the moldy dampness of despair. A young man suddenly stood up from a stained mattress, his movement so abrupt and violent that he knocked over a pyramid of empty beer bottles.

Crash!

Glass shattered against the cold concrete floor, green shards exploding outward like shrapnel. The noise was deafening in the small space, but the man didn't even flinch.

His face was a mask of tragedy, streaked with dried tears and fresh ones that continued to fall. His eyes were red-rimmed, bloodshot webs of veins surrounding pupils that were dilated with a terrifying realization. But beneath the layers of grief and intoxication, a sharp, cold clarity began to dawn—the instinct of a predator waking up.

Wei Yun's face twisted, his facial muscles spasming as he cycled rapidly through a spectrum of extreme emotions—from the ecstasy of remembering, to the shock of recognition, and finally settling into an expression of pure, unadulterated rage that distorted his handsome features into something demonic.

"He… that Shen! He dared to deceive my Linlin!"

Wei Yun's memory was not like that of an ordinary person. Sharpened by decades of hellish training as an [Innate Peak] powerhouse and the top assassin king of the Dark World, his mind was a steel trap. He rewound the tape of his memories, replaying the scene from yesterday afternoon with high-definition clarity.

He saw it again. The entrance of Modu University, bathed in golden afternoon sunlight. The roar of an engine that sounded like a beast. The red limited-edition Lamborghini that gleamed like fresh blood. And the man behind the wheel—Shen Anyu.

He saw the man's face—arrogant, noble, devastatingly handsome, with a smile that hid a thousand knives.

And then, he saw the woman Shen Anyu had picked up.

Su Hongmian. The arrogant, icy campus belle of Modu University. The woman who walked like a queen and looked at everyone else as if they were dust.

Even with just a single glance yesterday, without paying special attention at the time, Wei Yun had firmly remembered their faces. An assassin never forgets a face; it was a survival instinct carved into his bones.

At the time, Wei Yun hadn't cared. He had sat in his security booth, cap pulled low, dismissing them as just another pair of rich, spoiled brats. Whether it was the limited-edition luxury supercar worth tens of millions or Su Hongmian, the beautiful young lady admired by thousands, neither mattered to him. They were just background noise in his world, static on a screen he wasn't watching.

Because, in his heart, there was only room for one woman.

Jiang Linlin.

His world was small. It contained only her smile, her safety, and her happiness.

Do you understand the value of a "Pure Love" Child of Destiny? He was a man who would burn the world to keep one person warm. He was a man who had walked through rivers of blood just to find a single clean place for her to stand.

In Wei Yun's heart, the entire universe—with all its wealth, power, and glory—weighed less than a single strand of Linlin's hair. If destroying the world would save her from a single tear, he wouldn't hesitate to light the match.

Without Linlin, the world was just a graveyard waiting to be filled. It was gray, cold, and meaningless.

The "God of Death" has no tears. He had killed thousands without blinking, watched life fade from eyes without feeling a thing. But tonight, in this filthy room, he cried like a child for Linlin.

"Linlin definitely doesn't know!" he roared, his voice cracking with agony. "She doesn't know that Shen Anyu already has a girlfriend! That he's with Su Hongmian! That Shen bastard must be deceiving Linlin's feelings!"

The thought was like a serrated knife twisting in his gut. His pure, innocent Linlin. His white lotus who had never seen the darkness of the world. She was being played by a rich scumbag who collected women like trophies, a man who drove Lamborghinis and dated heiresses while lying to simple, kind girls.

Thinking of this, Wei Yun gritted his teeth so hard they creaked, the sound echoing the snapping of his sanity.

He had to tell her. He had to save her. He had to tear down Shen Anyu's mask and expose his true colors before it was too late. He had to be the hero she didn't know she needed.

And then!

"Shen... you must die!"

The Killing Intent exploded from him, filling the small room with a suffocating pressure. The air temperature dropped instantly, frost creeping up the windows. The shadows in the corners seemed to writhe and lengthen, responding to the call of their master.

"Not only you must die... all your family, all your friends, everyone you hold dear must die!"

"They are all implicated by you! They deserve to be killed for birthing such a monster! They deserve to die for enjoying the wealth that allows you to prey on innocent girls!"

In Wei Yun's eyes, the killing intent wasn't just a feeling; it was a physical force. It splashed around him like invisible ink, cold light shimmering in his pupils, making the very air shudder with fear.

The terrifying assassin king of the Dark World, the "God of Death" Wei Yun, was completely enraged. The security guard disguise had melted away, revealing the monster underneath.

He had slaughtered over a thousand people. He had stepped over piles of bones to reach the top of the underworld. But in the past, even when he was torturing and killing the leader of the Asura organization to avenge his adoptive parents, Wei Yun had never felt such a profound, all-consuming desire to kill.

That was vengeance. This? This was hate. This was protection. This was love twisted into violence.

Knowing that his beloved—the pure and flawless Jiang Linlin, whom he had cherished like a fragile glass doll—was actually deceived by a philandering playboy, tainted with flaws...

This was unacceptable. It was a blasphemy against everything he held holy.

"I can't blame Linlin... Linlin is innocent. She is too kind, too trusting. She was deceived!"

Wei Yun muttered to himself, rocking back and forth, trying to rationalize the pain. Even though his heart was filled with boundless resentment, he would not blame Jiang Linlin. She was the victim. She was the lamb led to the slaughter.

But Shen Anyu?

"Shen! I want you to know pain! I will inflict the ten great tortures on you! Slow slicing! Dismemberment! Sky lantern! I will make you beg for death, and I will deny you even that mercy!"

At this moment, Wei Yun had already formulated a hundred ways to kill Shen Anyu. He visualized peeling the skin from Shen Anyu's handsome face, breaking his fingers one by one, making him regret ever looking at Jiang Linlin. He would make Shen Anyu die a miserable, prolonged death.

Anything less would not be enough to vent the anger and hatred burning in his heart!

In fact, Wei Yun even planned to torture and kill all of Shen Anyu's relatives and friends, preferably in front of Shen Anyu, to break his spirit before breaking his body. He wanted to destroy Shen Anyu's world just as Shen Anyu had destroyed his.

As the assassin king of the Dark World, Wei Yun was not a "good person." Among the more than a thousand people he had killed, many were innocent collateral damage. He had never felt a shred of mercy for them.

Only upon returning to Modu and seeing the pure Jiang Linlin did he restrain his monstrous nature. He suppressed the urge to kill, becoming an unremarkable little security guard, hiding his claws to protect a flower.

Only then did he begin to feel guilt for his past. Only then did he want to make amends, dreaming of a day he could stand by Jiang Linlin honorably, without the mask, hand in hand under the sunlight.

But Shen Anyu had stolen that dream. He had trampled it into the mud with his expensive Italian leather shoes.

"However... past mistakes can now be remedied!"

Wei Yun stood up, wiping the tears from his face with a rough hand. His eyes cleared, the madness focusing into a singular, razor-sharp purpose.

"Linlin, I will tell you everything. I will confess my sins. I will make up for your parents' deaths because of me, and all the suffering you've endured for the past twenty years."

"I will cherish you as my most precious treasure, more precious than my own life. I will protect you for eternity!"

"I will make you the most beautiful bride. We will leave this city. We will go somewhere nobody knows us. We will have the cutest daughter, and I will also help you take care of Grandma Zhong, help her live out her old age and give her a proper burial..."

Thinking of this beautiful future, a twisted, hopeful smile appeared on Wei Yun's face. It was the smile of a man who saw a light at the end of a tunnel, unaware that it was an oncoming train.

He grabbed his jacket and sped out of the room, moving towards Grandma Zhong's house like a phantom in the night.

At this moment, the sun had set, and night had fallen over Modu. The city lights flickered on, indifferent to the drama unfolding in the shadows.

He had already wasted too much time wallowing in despair. He couldn't waste any more!

Clarify the misunderstanding. Kill Shen Anyu. Kill his entire family.

Then, everything would return to normal. He and Linlin would live the most beautiful and happiest life.

It will definitely happen!

On the other side of the city, in a world of luxury far removed from Wei Yun's dingy apartment.

"Brother Shen... am I pretty, Linlin?"

Jiang Linlin stood in the center of the lavish living room of the Presidential Suite, nervously clutching the hem of her skirt. Her cheeks were flushed a deep crimson, and her eyes were filled with a shyness that was painfully endearing.

She twirled in a small circle, the fabric flaring out around her legs like a blooming flower.

At this moment, Jiang Linlin was wearing a Chanel light purple belted dress. It was a masterpiece of design, simple yet elegant, perfectly showcasing her graceful curves and slender waist. The color complemented her porcelain skin, making her look like a fairy who had wandered into the mortal realm.

As her skirt fluttered, the faint, natural scent of a young girl—clean soap and innocence, unadorned by heavy perfume—drifted into Shen Anyu's nostrils. It was intoxicating, far better than any expensive fragrance.

Shen Anyu sat on the velvet sofa, a glass of wine in his hand. He smiled, his gaze openly admiring the pure and charming young girl before him.

At this moment, night had fallen, and the city lights twinkled outside the floor-to-ceiling windows of the five-star hotel suite. The contrast between the cold night outside and the warmth inside was palpable.

During the day, Shen Anyu had been busy. He had helped Jiang Linlin and Grandma Zhong move, relocating them from their cramped, run-down apartment to a spacious, high-end flat in a secure residential area.

He also purchased all sorts of daily necessities, clothes, and even hired a professional care team for Grandma Zhong. He had transformed their lives in a matter of hours.

At first, Jiang Linlin was unwilling. She wanted to be self-reliant. She felt overwhelmed by his generosity, afraid of the debt she was incurring.

But Shen Anyu persuaded her with a masterstroke—he used Wei Yun's name.

He explained that if Jiang Linlin and Grandma Zhong continued to live in the small house in the suburbs, they might be harmed by a desperate, vengeful Wei Yun who was "hunting" them. He painted a picture of danger that terrified her into submission.

Jiang Linlin immediately agreed. She clearly had a considerable psychological shadow regarding Wei Yun now, fearing the "monster" who killed her parents.

In the past, when they lived in that small house, Jiang Linlin's life was hard. She went to school, worked part-time jobs, and did live streaming just to make ends meet. She scrimped and saved, hiring a neighbor auntie to watch her grandmother while she studied.

But now?

After moving to the big house, Shen Anyu arranged for everything. Good medical care, a nanny, security. Grandma Zhong was safe and cared for. The financial burden was gone.

Her long-cherished dreams seemed to have come true in an instant. It was like waking up in a fairy tale.

Jiang Linlin's clear and flawless beautiful eyes gazed affectionately at the handsome man before her. She knew that everything was because of this man. He had changed her destiny!

"Brother Shen... you are so good to Linlin. Linlin will never know how to repay your kindness."

Shen Anyu stood up and walked over to her. He embraced Jiang Linlin, his arms wrapping around her waist, pulling her close. The heat of his body seeped into hers, making her knees weak.

He looked down at her gently and said softly:

"Linlin, do we still need to say words of thanks between us?"

"You are the woman I want to cherish for a lifetime!"

Jiang Linlin's pure and charming small face immediately filled with endless emotion, her beautiful eyes soft.
