OLEANDER
"Basically, you just made the house arrest even stricter. Got it," I muttered.
Curtains down 24/7.
No garden. No fresh air. No outside world. Seriously, he had indirectly told me to stop dreaming about this.
Report any suspicious movement.
And once it's dark, don't open the door, not even for his sister. The best part of what he had said. She hated me anyway; I doubt she'd mind if I locked her out.
I knew it was all for my safety, to protect me from that monster. And yeah, I could do everything he'd listed. But it sounded easier than it felt.
Sometimes, I just wanted to crack open the curtain, feel a little sun. One small act of rebellion…that could be all it took to ruin everything.
"Not really house arrest if you think of it as me keeping you safe," he pointed out.
"Right." I nodded, already walking away from him.
"Trust me," he said behind me, "if there were a better option, I'd tell you. But for now, there isn't."
