Fengbao Xue Qing seemed amused as she said, "Well, you are clever. This is the exact type of thing I would love to utilize in my company. But, right now I'm more curious about your AR glasses. That is what they are, right? I didn't think they could handle that high of a load."
I responded, "Yeah, they can't. I am using them to remote operate a different system."
"I never thought to use them that way. That's a good idea."
"I wish they were better, but I care more about the current looks."
"They are a bit bulky."
"Yep, anyway I've got the TV working and I'm logged in, so feel free to watch whatever you want. I'm going to keep fixing the place up."
"Do you want me to get my people to help?"
"No, I want to do it myself. Thank you, though."
"Yep."
Since we were done talking I went back down stairs. I was thinking about what to do when one of the men walked past me going upstairs. I decided to clean all of the individual rooms.
…
A few hours later in the early afternoon one of the body guards brought me lunch.
I took the lunch upstairs to the living room where Xue Qing was still watching Lord of the Enigmas.
She had been binge watching it so she was almost done.
I sat down and started to eat while watching TV.
As the show came to its conclusion and the credits played, she snapped out of trance. She noticed me finishing my lunch and said, "Wow. That was amazing! I can really understand how that has so much influence on our culture and has such an effect on the population. Do you have any other recommendations?"
"Yeah, it's pretty great. Umm. Yeah, I have a few. You have Tales of Devils and Deities, I really like that one. But the animation quality is nowhere close to being as good as this. It was made a long time ago. I remember only being able to watch it on MeTube with terrible fan translations and low resolution, because they didn't have a way to watch it in the states.
In that same vein there is Part Time Mage. Both of these are from Xia and are favorites of mine. The quality may be a little lacking but when I first watched them, around a decade ago, they were amazing.
I always prefer a good story over good animation. It makes me want to use AI to remaster the animations to make them better, but I also think the use of AI in culture should be limited.
Anyway! You have some from Yamato like Fishcake, the story about an orange hero. Or Sodium Hypochlorite, the orange haired hero. Umm, maybe Origin Piece, with the hero who was as bright as the orange sun…
I am only now realizing how much orange there is."
"Hahaha, ah… that's so stupid."
"Yeah, I'm really struggling here. We can start with these, they are the same genre as what you just watched. I could also look for something like a comedy, romance, or a horror. How does any of that sound?"
"Lets stick with this genre, I'm really liking this right now."
"Ok, then what do you want to watch?"
"Umm, let's go more mythological and watch Tales of Devils and Deities."
"Sounds like a plan."
I switched to a different app and looked it up.
I said in astonishment, "Wow, there are a lot more episodes since I last watched. They are short, only a few minutes each, but they have a few hundred episodes."
"Hmm~ then you will have to watch them with me."
"Ah… fine fine. Let me just take the sheets out of the washing machine and hang them up."
"Sure. There's no need to rush, I still have plenty of snacks to eat."
I only now noticed that the large bags of snacks had been ransacked. She has eaten a lot of snacks.
I said, "You are going to get an upset stomach eating all of that."
"Yeah, it does feel a little off. I have never eaten these kinds of snacks before, but they were really good. So, I just couldn't help but eat more."
"You haven't eaten snacks or watched TV before. I'm starting to feel like a corrupting force. What kind of snacks do you usually eat?"
"I don't know, like hand made pastries, or sundried fruits. Very natural and non-processed food. After eating this I can understand why people get hooked on it. It's quick, simple, and tasty. Plus it is cheap compared to the healthier options.
It's kind of unfair, the less fortunate are basically forced to eat heavily processed food. I wish I could do something about that. But, realistically I don't have that kind of power."
"I wouldn't stress out about it. Even if you offered a cheap healthy option a lot of people would still get the better tasting one. Don't worry about the what ifs."
"I have lived through too much for this to get to me. I'm not that weak."
"Thats commendable, I'm going to do the laundry real quick."
"I said you don't have to rush."
"I know, I know."
I went to the large bathroom on the first floor. The changing room had a few large washing machines. They were from the 80s and only had one dial and a few switches.
That thing, like everything of that era, was built like a tank. Everything was built to last, and since they have been sitting here unused, they still worked just fine.
I pulled out the sheets and carried them into the actual bathroom. There were these devices on the walls that I could pull out, that was a wire that I could connect to the other wall. It was a clothes line inside, built into the wall.
With all of the towels and sheets for the inn they had to be washed and dried onsite. You couldn't exactly dry your clothes outside in the winter. So the only option was where water could freely drip onto the ground.
