I told Elian and Nicholas everything that happened. I gave them my statement.
Jamie and Soren waited outside while I did.
I hated that part the most. I wanted them there. I wanted to be able to look at Jamie when my voice shook or feel Soren's presence when the words became too heavy to carry on my own. But Elian and Nicholas had been firm. According to protocol, they couldn't be present during an official statement. No witnesses. No outside influence. Just me.
If someone was here then my statement wouldn't count. I had to be alone. It had to be just me alone.
The room was quiet as they listened to me.
