Chapter 8 - Rockmon Meat

Hayoon took it and when she looking at it the gray white tubers had been boiled until it turned sticky mixed with vegetables cooked so long they had turned yellow.

She stirred with the spoon and a few small pieces of beast meat rose to the surface, releasing a wave of strong gamy smell right into her face.

If she were still in her previous body, she probably would have thrown up from the smell.

She was an agriculture major and she got along well with several seniors in the animal husbandry department.

She also had visited their facility where their raising the pigs.

To be honest, this dish looked even worse than modern pig feed… and it didn't even smell as good as pig feed mixed with additives.

While she stayed silent, Minho said, "You can't eat too much meat right now."

Hayoon lifted her head. "I know, thank you."

Given the development level of the beastmen world, just having food was already good enough.

She wasn't being picky, she just feeling the difference.

While holding the bowl in one hand, she scooped up the mashed tuber porridge with the other and put it into her mouth.

It's salty, astringent, bitter… It was truly not good, but she endured it without frowning.

Food was precious and she didn't want to waste it, so she slowly fed herself.

Minho left and served Haeun more food with a lot of meat and only a few tubers.

Haeun carried his bowl over to eat with her.

At his age, he was growing quickly and had long been hungry.

He ate with big mouthfuls and chewing the food loudly with satisfaction.

Hayoon watched him gulp down a piece of meat and then say brightly, "It's Rockmon meat! Sis, we haven't eaten Rockmon in so long!"

Then he looked enviously toward Minho in the distance. "Rockmon are good at climbing cliffs and their two horns are really sharp. They're so hard to hunt, but definitely no problem for Brother Minho! Look! he even got the tenderest parts of the Rockmon!"

Rockmon is a beast that looked similar to modern cliff goats and their habits were similar too, except they were much larger and far more aggressive.

For beastmen who weren't good at climbing, encountering a Rockmon meant a long struggle.

But thinking about Minho's beast form, even if a whole herd of Rockmon came, they probably wouldn't be his match.

The Ur-Shet tribe had a rule that the prey hunted collectively had to be handed to the tribe first, then it would be distributed uniformly and those with greater ability would received more.

For Minho to receive the best meat also showed how exceptional his hunting skills were.

Not only that…

"He cooks with a stone pot, right?" Hayoon asked.

Haeun nodded, looking even more impressed. "Yeah! That stone pot was a reward the tribe gave to Brother Minho when he became our tribe warrior at eighteen!"

Even though this was a primitive beast world, Hayoon couldn't help but feel the huge gap between social levels.
