Chapter 3 - ~03

Alarick's POV

Once news about an intruder crossing the border reached my ears, I instantly became infuriated.

I'm sick of these weak pups not being able to hold their own, but there must be a reason why they brought the intruder back home- otherwise they would have just killed them like usual.

I loosened my tie with one hand, as I poured myself another glass of whiskey.

My wolf was on edge, and I had no idea why.

I should probably go for a run once I settle this bullshit.

While walking towards the cells in my basement, I started to spot muddy little footprints all over my marble floors. I use my powerful sense of smell to pick up on the scent that they possessed.

It smelled like Fae, but not as sweet. It also smelled like human, but three times stronger than what they usually smell like. And it definitely didn't smell like any wolf or shifter I knew. The scent was so alien. But at the same time, it was so infatuating. It smelled like lilacs, honey, and fresh earth.

Like after it rains.

Nothing has ever made me so curious. I had a strong feeling that this was a creature I've never dealt with before. In all my years of living, I've never smelt anything like this. I know I'll be in for a surprise.

My questions as to why they brought the intruder here have been answered.

I looked around the room for someone to clean the mess, until my eyes fell upon a young girl. "You, make yourself useful and clean this up." I spoke to one of the live-in maids.

She practically tripped over her feet, scrambling to clean up the mud.

Once I finally made my way down to the basement, I was greeted by one of my best soldiers.

"Right this way your highness. You'll never guess what the boys nabbed this time!" We walked further down the hall, until he finally led me to a small girl.

Her beauty was enchanting. I wished to admire her further, but Angelo's rambling snapped me out of my trance.

"W-What! What happened to the wings!?" He was completely floored. "Why, it's just a little girl." I grumbled.

"Why waste my time in showing me this? Why didn't you kill her like we do the rest of them?" I grumbled.

He clutched the cell bars tightly and responded, "She had wings your majesty, I swear! That's why Kane and the boys brought her back!"

It was a bit unusual to see Angelo so confused. He never fails me and remains one of my sharpest and loyal soldiers. I'm inclined to believe him.

I turned back towards the cell and examined the girl a bit more closely. I made it my business to remember every detail about her. Her brown doe eyes, those lips. Her figure, her dark glowy skin, and her long curly hair.

She was fascinating.

I picked up on her scent and it finally hit me like a train.

I stayed eerily calm.

I now knew that this beautiful woman was my mate. But I needed to remain stoic and put on an act.

It was obvious that there was something different about her, I just need to be sure things are safe before going through the process of introducing a Luna to the pack.

Tensions are very high with neighboring territories. If they were to ever find out about a new Queen, all hell would break loose. Rouges would do anything to get to me.

I backed up from the cell and turned to my soldier. "Angelo, you tell the warriors who found this girl that this situation stays to themselves. I deem this discovery as one that should remain classified to the public. I'd really hate to have to start killing my soldiers if rumors started to spread. Transfer her to a guest room that stays locked. I want her room to remain guarded. No one goes in or out. Bring the key to my office when you're done." I spoke.

Even though it was understood that all royal matters stay confidential, it just felt right threatening their lives.

It gave me peace of mind.

He nodded, accepting the task. "Why are you giving her a room?" He asked.

A deep growl emitted from my chest.

"It's a good thing I don't pay you to think Angelo. Just do it." I snarled.

Fear spread across his face. He's lucky my mate was watching, otherwise I wouldn't spare any hesitation laying hands on him for questioning me.

"Yes Alpha, I understand." He bowed.

"Also, tell Sofia the head maid to meet me in my office in 10."

Sofia has worked for my family for generations. I could trust her with this.

I furrowed my brows at the girl, catching one last glimpse before leaving. She looked extremely hurt- like she had just been mauled by a bear. Covered in blood, and holding herself in a kneeling position . She looked scared out of her mind, somewhat feral even.

The bruises along with a few gashes softened my heart to see my mate in such a condition.

I quickly looked away from her and walked away from her cell. I knew that if I looked too long fury would consume me.

However, I am excited to learn where this strange girl comes from. Angelo had said something about her having wings?

Angels were really just something we teach children about when trying to convince them to be good. They represent the afterlife and reminds us of The Most High's accomplices'.

We think of them as purely as just spiritual beings.

But if what my men are saying is true- Having the experience to interact with such a being is unfathomable.

Angel shifters? Out of the hundreds of years I've been alive, I've never seen or come across anything like this.
