Chapter 9 - Day Nine: The Time Blur

Survival Log for the world I have ended up in. For the record my Earth name is Ellery Kingston. My ID number is 888-3 for all Expeditionary Forces of Earth. As of July 18 of 2096 I have successfully entered a new world. As per the rules of the EFE I am writing daily logs based on my experiences and observations in this new world. With the introduction to my logs done I shall start.

Survival Log Day Nine

Is finally done it, I'd found a book in the Arcanaeum about the Thu'um, the voice, dragon language, shouts. It wasn't much. A collection of shouts heard from previous users. It was a bunch of nonsense on how it worked and the words themselves. It had lots of conjecture and theories and some translations. In essence the shout was using an incantation in the dragon language while using your soul, instead of will, to shape magic. FUS or force is the magical manifestation of force itself via one's voice and soul. As it doesn't use willpower it is much harder do learn as doing anything with your soul is hard to do and incredibly dangerous. That however didn't matter to me. If I wanted to weaken the civil war and save King Torygg I'd need to learn at least FUS to counter the shout used by Ulfric.

I didn't know what shout he would use but unrelenting force would at least weaken the attack. I took the book and immediately went to the roof of the college. If I somehow used a shout, which was very unlikely, I wanted to be somewhere I wouldn't do much damage.

Note: When the time blur ended I found out, to my embarrassment, that the entire college and a large part of the hold had heard me on the roof shouting while producing no effect.

At least until I got the shout down and caused an avalanche.

Time passed as I meditated on force itself in any way I could in order to understand it for my use. I'd played Skyrim a few times on earth and unrelenting force was obviously the shout I used most. I had only completed the game once but some words had stuck with me from the dragon on the mountain. Unrelenting force was about having or using power without effort. The greybeards hid on th mountain not for their safety but for the safety of others. The power they wielded came from their voice itself, effortlessly commanding the universe.

That was unrelenting force. But before I could have effortless power I needed to understand that power. Force was power, but so many other things. With my body unconsciously casting my support spells I sat and thought of force. I don't know how long I sat but it wasn't till days later that someone stumbled upon me on the roof.

I looked up suddenly as someone tapped my shoulder. I spoke one word. "Force" I didn't put anything behind the word except my understanding. Nothing moved, the world didn't shake and a kinetic blast didn't leave my lips. But something changed. As a mage I could feel something had changed. Not in my magic or body. Not my brain or mind.

My soul.

I know had some kind of understanding of force. I looked up at the mountains and shouted while pulling my understanding of force into my soul. FUS! Nothing changed so I waved off the person next to me and sat back down. I didn't expect anything to happen. It took years to do anything with the voice and I didn't have any training from a user.

I sat and thought. Meditated. In my meditation I didn't have to sleep. The only time I needed to use my mind was to cast my support spells. I simply existed and meditated on force and what it was. At one point an bird made a nest on my shoulder, I ignored it. The magic protections of the college kept most of the weather out, but some of it still got in. The next time I awoke was to find myself dusted with snow and eggs in the nest on my shoulder. The wind swirled around me and the roof top reminding me of the wind cloak I'd learnt. When the birds weren't on my shoulder I would sometimes let out a shout.

A single FUS or simply speaking force. I could no longer tell if my bodies trembling was from cold, my bodies natural movement, or the shout I was trying to use. Time passed, I didn't care. Akatosh was the father of dragons and god of time. I was trying to learn the Thu'um, the power of dragon shouts. I'd need time to learn a language that can manipulate time.

People came by sometimes, Tolfdir had been up here a few times. The last time he'd draped a blanket over my shoulders and set the bird nest back down.

My shouts felt better as time passed, or at least I think they did. Whenever the wind picked up I stood at the edge of the tower, breathing and sometimes shouting. I don't know how long I meditated for before Mirabelle came looking for me. I was still in a daze of meditation as she used telekinesis to float me to her office. She sat me down in a chair and slapped my head. I exited my daze a bit and she spoke. "I've taken the liberty to complete your tuition set up for you. The Dwemer automaton Hexleg 01 has been replicated by me and I have manufactured multiple to be hired by the town's people and our fellow mages. I have used the money to pay your tuition and have gotten you an imperial patent on the machine. Multiple authorities and powerful peoples have attempted to buy permission to manufacture the automaton and use it, however, while I have authority to do many things, the patent is in your name and usage rights can only be given by you."

"I'd like to ask you to manage that, as long as my tuition gets paid and I get to stay and learn I'm fine. If I need to sign papers I will." I said. My voice was hoarse from shouting attempts and disuse, small trembles shooting through as I spoke. Mirabelle raised and eyebrow then shook her head. "Well, if you want me to manage it then here are the papers." She pushed a small stack over and a quill. "If you want the money moved in anyway besides paying your tuition you must notify me. Once you're done reading and signing those you can go back to studying… whatever you're doing."

I took the quill read some of the papers and signed the specified lines. I handed the papers back to her then climbed nbacm up to the tower roof.

Thus concludes my day nine survival log for this world.

Note for future EFE explorers: If something you're using has even the smallest chance of causing time blur, find some way to make yourself aware of it or something to stop the use of what is causing the time blur. This warning will be in all 'The Time Blur' logs.
