When Goku looked puzzled, Master Roshi explained calmly,
"You mean Chi-Chi? I plan to take her as my disciple."
Goku blinked. "Take her as your disciple?"
Roshi nodded. "That's right. You're the grandson of Son Gohan. He asked me long ago to train you, so I agreed.
A few days ago, the Ox-King came to visit me. When I met his daughter, I found her temperament and potential not bad,
so I thought—why not train her as well?
After all, your grandfather Gohan and her father the Ox-King were both my students.
Wouldn't it be unfair if I accepted you but not her?"
Goku scratched his head, slowly realizing what had happened.
But this was already far from the original timeline.
He had planned to keep his distance from Chi-Chi—
yet now she was going to train with him every day.
'Doesn't that mean we'll only get closer?' he thought with a pang of anxiety.
In his previous life, Goku had been an introvert, a little socially anxious, and terrified of being scolded.
Even though he'd changed a lot since being reborn in this world,
he still shuddered when he remembered how adult Chi-Chi in the original story used to yell at him for every little thing.
Still, he couldn't refuse her joining.
And at least, little Chi-Chi was still a sweet, adorable girl—easy to get along with.
'Fine,' he thought, sighing inwardly. 'Let's just blame it all on the butterfly effect.'
Roshi went on, "Oh, and by the way, I asked the father and daughter to find you too!
But it seems you got here on your own.
From now on, you're all fellow disciples—remember to get along!"
"Yes, Master Roshi!" Goku replied.
Just then, the Ox-King's plane landed smoothly on the beach.
He and Chi-Chi stepped out and walked toward them.
Chi-Chi's face was glowing with joy. Spotting Goku, she broke into a run,
her bright smile so pure it could melt snow,
making her already adorable features shine even more radiantly.
Krillin stared at her, practically dazed.
He immediately stepped forward and said, "Hi there, I'm Krillin!"
But Chi-Chi didn't even glance at him. She ran right past and stopped in front of Goku.
"Goku! So you were here! I've been looking for you for days!"
Krillin's hand froze mid-wave.
She had completely ignored him—and went straight to Goku with that sweet, shining smile.
It was a critical hit straight to his ego.
He scratched his bald head awkwardly, feeling an ache deep in his chest.
'So this is what heartbreak feels like,' he thought miserably.
Meanwhile, Chi-Chi said warmly to Goku, "I'm so glad I finally found you."
Goku smiled politely. "You've worked hard."
"Not at all! I'm happy to do something for you!"
She leaned a little closer, her big eyes sparkling as she looked up at him,
waiting for praise like a child showing off a drawing.
Goku simply smiled again. That one gentle smile was enough to make her heart flutter.
Standing nearby, Krillin could only watch, once again realizing just how unfair life could be.
A light cough came from behind them.
"Ehem…" Roshi straightened up. "Alright, that's enough chit-chat.
Now that there are three of you, it's time for the discipleship test.
Only by completing my trial can you officially become my students."
Chi-Chi tilted her head curiously. "Master Roshi, what kind of test is it?"
The old man blushed. "Chi-Chi, you're a young lady—you don't need to take the test.
Go rest over there for now."
"Huh? Is it because I'm cute?" she asked innocently.
Then she giggled. "Thank you, Master Roshi, hehe!"
She turned to Goku, her cheeks slightly pink. "Goku, do your best, okay?"
"Got it," Goku replied with a grin.
Chi-Chi ran off toward a shady tree, humming happily.
Roshi then turned to the Ox-King. "Alright, you can leave her here.
Don't distract me while I'm teaching."
"Yes, Master Roshi!" the Ox-King said respectfully, bowing.
In his eyes, Roshi was still the same noble, sage-like teacher who once rode the Flying Nimbus—
not the old hermit whose hobbies had taken a questionable turn since retirement.
Soon, the Ox-King flew away, leaving the small island with just Roshi, the Turtle, Goku, Krillin, and Chi-Chi resting nearby.
Once Chi-Chi was out of earshot, Roshi explained the task to Goku and Krillin.
Krillin scratched his head and asked, "Wait, if Chi-Chi's a cute girl already, doesn't that mean she counts as the one we're supposed to bring?"
Roshi's face darkened. "Don't be ridiculous. She's just a child—not my type!
I like the kind of women you showed me in those magazines."
Krillin nodded eagerly. "Ohhh, so Master likes mature and sexy older sisters, not cute little girls!"
Roshi coughed, embarrassed. "Ahem! Let's just say… cute has its charm, but compared to sexy, it's nothing."
Krillin grinned. "Got it!" He turned to Goku. "Well, let's get going then!"
"Yeah!"
Goku leapt onto the Flying Nimbus, but when Krillin tried to follow—
he immediately fell straight through, landing flat on his face.
Roshi frowned. "Hmm. Seems you can't ride the Nimbus.
Only those pure of heart can.
That means your motives aren't pure! Perhaps you shouldn't be here at all."
Krillin panicked. "Wait, Master Roshi, please don't send me away!
I just want to become strong… so girls will like me!"
Roshi rubbed his bald head thoughtfully.
This kid really doesn't get it.
Girls didn't avoid him because his martial arts were weak—
they avoided him because he had no money, wasn't handsome, wasn't tall…
Roshi sighed heavily, looking at Krillin's smooth head and noseless face.
"Well, you've come a long way to get here. I suppose I'll take you in anyway.
Now stop wasting time—go with Goku and start your task."
Krillin's face lit up. "Thank you, Master Roshi!"
And so, the odd trio—one pure-hearted boy, one desperate bald disciple, and one resting sweetheart under the tree—
set out to begin the first trial of the Turtle School.
