Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 Kakashi-sensei, you don’t want to

Have you talked to him yet?

"We've talked. Comrade Nine-Tails has deeply recognized the importance and urgency of this task. He has pledged to earnestly fulfill his duties, strengthen coordination and cooperation, and form a joint force—"

"Stop. Speak human."

"Sorry. I've written too many speeches for my boss—muscle memory kicked in. In short, I intimidated him a bit, but I'll need to take it slow if I want to drain his chakra."

"So we're still following the usual process today?"

"Don't worry. Just play along with him."

Konoha Village, Training Grounds

Sakura and Naruto were chatting animatedly, completely ignoring Sasuke, who was quietly enjoying the breeze. This earned them an even stranger look from him.

"Do you really like fooling around that much?" Sakura asked Naruto, frowning slightly.

"In my previous life, I never even killed an ant. If I want to survive in the brutal world of Naruto, I have to seize every opportunity to train."

"There's no need to rush for experience packs. Kakashi is an important NPC—if we don't follow the plot, it's easy to make mistakes."

"…Actually, I've been meaning to ask. Do you really like playing soul-travel games that much?"

"What?"

"You keep using game terminology."

"…Cough."

Listening from the side, Sasuke grew increasingly confused.

Soul travel? Terminology? NPC?

What on earth was going on?

But his pride suppressed his curiosity. He simply turned his head away, wondering when Kakashi would finally show up.

Soon, accompanied by a puff of white smoke, Kakashi arrived late as usual.

"Yo, good morning, everyone," he greeted lazily.

He had expected the three of them to be furious and question why he was so late.

To his surprise, Naruto stepped forward and said, "As expected of you, boss. On the very first day, you taught us a vivid lesson."

"What lesson?" Sakura asked.

"Slacking off!" Naruto said solemnly. "The boss, wearing a jōnin's uniform, stood there in silence for ages. We should learn from him."

As he spoke, Naruto even winked at Kakashi, throwing Kakashi's emotions into confusion.

"Ahem. On my way here, I ran into an old lady—"

"Exactly!" Naruto grinned. "Next time, tell me which street. I'll go help you."

Kakashi fell silent.

He scratched his eyebrow helplessly and then explained the rules to the three of them.

"…In short, if you don't intend to kill me, you won't be able to take the bells."

After saying this, Kakashi glanced at the three of them.

Sasuke looked tense, but otherwise the most normal.

Naruto and Sakura wore serious expressions, yet there wasn't a trace of fear in their eyes.

Especially Naruto—you could clearly feel the excitement burning in his gaze.

This kid's interesting, Kakashi thought. Let's see what you can really do.

"Alright, training begins!"

The moment his words fell, Sakura and Sasuke leapt backward, while Naruto did the opposite—charging straight toward Kakashi like a bolt of lightning!

He drew a kunai from his pouch and stabbed straight at Kakashi's throat. Kakashi narrowed his eyes, caught the attack with lightning reflexes, and grabbed Naruto's wrist.

Naruto didn't panic. Instead, he bent low and kicked at Kakashi's waist, only for Kakashi to block it with his elbow. Seizing the moment, Naruto shot Sakura a glance.

Sakura understood immediately. She focused chakra into her fist and slammed it into the ground.

"Boom!"

A dull roar echoed as a dense barrage of kunai burst out from the nearby forest, flying toward Kakashi.

The entire exchange took less than five seconds.

The "captured" Naruto revealed a sly smile, completely ignoring the incoming kunai. Instead, he exerted force, trying to pin Kakashi in place.

The high-speed kunai struck—more precisely, they tore into Kakashi's substitute log and Naruto's shadow clone—leaving countless gashes.

Naruto's real body slowly emerged from behind Sakura.

Looking at the calm-faced Kakashi, he praised, "As expected of you, boss."

From the very beginning, Naruto's real body had been hidden in the forest. He had created two shadow clones—one as bait, the other sent ahead to coordinate with Sakura.

This was the plan Naruto had devised the night before.

He never expected immediate success. His goal was simply to adapt to the rhythm of ninja combat as quickly as possible.

From the feedback, he could clearly tell he lacked combat technique; the transitions between close-combat moves relied mostly on instinct.

Kakashi nodded slightly. "Not bad. Looks like you took it to heart."

With that, he rummaged through his ninja pouch and solemnly pulled out Icha Icha Paradise.

Here we go, Naruto smiled inwardly.

The biggest difference between him and the original Naruto was that he knew the plot—and he had social experience. He would never be provoked by Kakashi's tricks.

Still, Icha Icha Paradise could also be Kakashi's weakness.

"Sensei," Naruto strode over, "are you reading the super-popular Icha Icha Paradise?"

"Hm?" Kakashi raised an eyebrow. "Minors aren't allowed to read that kind of book, you know."

"I haven't read it," Naruto shrugged. "But a few days ago, I happened to meet the author. Long hair down to his waist—looked practically immortal. We even talked about the plot."

Then Naruto said bluntly, "Kakashi-sensei, you wouldn't want me to spoil the ending, would you?"

The dead calm in Kakashi's eyes finally cracked. "Wait—how did you run into the author by chance…?"

"And then I said, the ending of Icha Icha Paradise—"

"Stop!" Kakashi cried out, instinctively covering his ears.

Hidden in the nearby bushes, Sakura chuckled softly, immediately understanding what Naruto was up to.

On the other side, Sasuke was utterly shocked by the scene.

"Now's our chance!"

He swiftly drew a shuriken and hurled it toward Kakashi!

At the same time, Sakura quietly circled behind Kakashi, waiting for an opening.

The three of them coordinated seamlessly.

"Whoosh! Whoosh!" The shuriken flew straight toward Kakashi, but it was as if someone were watching his back—he ducked instantly. The shuriken sailed past him… straight toward Naruto.

"Hah! You didn't even tell me!" Naruto shot a glance at Sasuke's direction and twisted aside at the last second, barely dodging it.

At that moment, Sakura stepped up to Kakashi, reaching for the bell at his waist!

Then Kakashi, still covering his ears, let out a light chuckle.

"One of a ninja's tactics… is taijutsu."

Naruto's scalp tingled. He shouted instinctively, "Sakura, get back!"

At the same time, his mind raced.

This guy did it on purpose!

First, he deliberately exposed a weakness. The moment Sasuke and Sakura acted, he locked onto their positions and launched a counterattack.

In just a few seconds, he had defused their assault and seized control of the battlefield.

After this exchange, Naruto finally understood Kakashi's reputation.

Even with memories from his previous life, trying to overpower Kakashi with his current strength was nothing more than a drop in the bucket.

But Naruto had no intention of forcing the Nine-Tails' cooperation, nor did he want a life-or-death duel with Kakashi.

So why not try another approach?
