Chapter 108 - Chapter 108: Famous in One Battle

The early summer sun of Year 49 beat down upon the eastern borders of the Land of Wind, but the heat of the star was nothing compared to the localized thermal anomalies occurring on the twin battlefields. If the Hidden Mist had entered this campaign believing Sunagakure was a "Crashed System" waiting to be scavenged, they were currently experiencing a catastrophic reality-check.

East Line: The Edge of the Desert.

Pakura, the Scorch Release User, had transformed from a defensive wall into the embodiment of a vengeful sun. The orange-red fireballs orbiting her were no longer merely deterrence; they had become "Death Beacons" with a high-frequency target-lock.

"Scatter! Don't gather! Disperse your signatures!" Ao, the Hidden Mist Jonin, roared desperately.

His Byakugan was wide open, the veins around his temples bulging with the strain of parsing the carnage. Through his "High-Resolution Sensor," he could see the horrifying biological reality of Pakura's technique. It wasn't just fire hitting flesh; he saw the abundant moisture, the very cooling system of the human body undergoing a violent phase-change. H2O was being ripped from the Mist ninjas' cells at a rate that defied standard medical logic. No matter how fast they moved, they couldn't outrun the infrared radiation bloom of her orbs.

It was too late for a retreat-script.

Pakura's eyes were glacial, her fingers moving in a blur of hand-seals. Several Scorch Release orbs did not follow a linear path. Instead, they traced strange, parabolic arcs in the air, striking the densest part of the Hidden Mist formation from angles Ao hadn't predicted.

"Ugh-!" "Water Release! Initialize Cooling--quickly!"

The screams were short-lived. The Mist ninjas attempting to resist with Water Release discovered, to their terminal horror, that their Water Dragon Bullets and Water Formation Walls were not merely evaporated. Upon contact with the Scorch Release, the water was "Over-Vaporized," turning into a high-pressure scalding steam that cooked the users before their own internal fluids were sucked dry.

Charred, mummified figures stood stiffly in their final combat positions, their skin the color of old parchment. As the sea breeze swept across the dunes, these "Biological Statues" crumbled into fine black powder, scattering across the sand like deleted data. There was no blood. There was no struggle. There was only instantaneous, utter annihilation.

This method of death, which bypassed every known defensive "Firmware" of the Mist, brought a psychological terror that crashed the invaders' morale. The formation completely collapsed. Ao tried to reorganize the survivors, but his Byakugan saw the truth: the Sunagakure ninjas, galvanized by Pakura's invincible presence, were already initializing a high-output counter-charge. The land assault was officially declared a "Failed Process."

South Line: East Sea Bay Coastline.

While the East Line was a silent, scorching erasure, the South Line was a brutal exhibition of "Mechanical Torque" and "Magnetic Dominance."

"Magnet Release: Iron Sand Coffin!"

Sayo's cold voice rang out, completing a one-handed sign atop the Mirage. From beneath the white sands of the beach, countless jets of black iron sand surged upward like living black pythons. They wrapped instantly around Kuriarare Kushimaru, the wielder of the Longsword: Nuibari.

Kushimaru, a high-agility unit who had just dodged a heavy punch from the Mirage, found his "Movement Script" locked. He tried to use the high-tensile threads of his needle-sword to cut through the sand, but the iron sand was infused with a powerful magnetic flux. It didn't just resist; it clung to the metal of his blade, weighting it down until the sword became an anchor rather than a weapon. After a struggle of less than a second, the black tide swarmed over his head.

Crunch--!

A sickening sound of bone-density failure muffledly emanated from the iron sand sphere. When Sayo released the magnetic tension, all that remained was a distorted, unrecognizable heap and a legendary blade lying abandoned in the silt.

"The first," Sayo whispered, his dark eyes already locking onto the next target: Munashi Jinpachi, the wielder of the Explosive Blade: Foam.

"Bastard! I'll format you into ash!" Jinpachi roared, swinging his Explosive Blade. A series of violent detonations rocked the beach, intended to push the massive Mirage back.

However, the Mirage displayed a flexibility that mocked the "Clunky Legacy" puppets of Suna's past. Maneuvered by the Direct Neural Interface threads behind Sayo's head, the silver-gray giant performed a low-to-the-ground gliding motion. It moved like a hover-jet, narrowly avoiding the center of the explosions by using its vector thrusters to "Slide" through the air.

Simultaneously, Sayo's free hand completed a sign.

"Wind Release: Vacuum Serial Waves!"

Several invisible, high-pressure wind blades arrived later but struck first, slicing through the smoke to precisely target Jinpachi's limb joints. The Mist swordsman was forced to pull his blade back into a defensive posture. The shockwave of his own explosion collided with the wind blades, creating a momentary "System Lag" in his defense.

In that millisecond, the Mirage's massive mechanical right arm lifted. The armor on the forearm slid back, revealing not a needle-gun, but a gigantic, high-strength alloy Ship-Slicing Blade. It shimmered with the intense, blue-white light of chakra-enhancement.

"Anti-Ship Slash!"

The massive blade, carrying the momentum of a ten-ton kinetic energy strike, suddenly slashed down. Its velocity far exceeded Jinpachi's human reaction limit. He could only watch as the shadow of the machine's "Grand Architecture" enveloped him.

Pfft—!

The Explosive Blade: Foam, along with its master, was cleaved in two. The Mirage's sheer torque and the cutting edge of Sayo's Wind Release chakra ignored the sword's material density. Blood splattered the white beach, a shocking "Visual Artifact" of the encounter.

"The second."

Sayo's gaze remained as flat as a monitor as he turned toward Suikazan Fuguki. The massive swordsman was attempting to use Samehada to absorb the Mirage's chakra coating. The "Living Sword" was indeed greedily swallowing the blue energy on the puppet's surface, but it was powerless against the kinetic energy of the puppet's physical mass.

"Magnet Release: Iron Sand Giant Needle!"

Sayo made a grasping motion. Billions of iron sand grains condensed into an enormous, supersonic spear. Fuguki, horrified, blocked with Samehada. The sword absorbed the chakra attached to the spear, but it could not neutralize the pure physical impact force of the ton of iron sand moving at Mach 1.

Boom!

The wielder of Samehada was blasted away like a broken file, crashing into the offshore reefs, his fate unknown. The great sword Samehada flew from his mangled grasp, landing in the surf.

Sayo intended to use his magnetism to retrieve the legendary blades, valuable hardware for his own research but an unexpected "Interrupt" occurred. Strange jutsu runes flared on the surfaces of Nuibari, Foam, and Samehada.

Poof.

In a cloud of white smoke, the three legendary weapons vanished.

"Remote Summoning? A Hōzuki Clan retrieval script..." Sayo frowned slightly. "What a pity. The loot would have been high-tier."

Despite the loss of the blades, the deaths of their masters were absolute. In a short engagement, three of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen had been permanently deleted. The landed Mist elites, seeing their "High-Spec" leaders fall to a single puppet and a Scorch Release goddess, suffered a total system crash. They fled frantically back toward their warships, ignoring the orders of their surviving officers.

Sayo did not initiate a pursuit. He controlled the Mirage to stand silently on the coast, a silver-gray monument reflecting the golden-red hue of the setting sun.

The news spread like a wildfire, or a high-priority packet being broadcast to every server in the world.

Pakura, the Scorch Release User, had single-handedly erased a land force and repelled a Byakugan commander. Sayo, the Magnet Release Puppeteer, had commanded a giant humanoid weapon to slaughter the legendary Swordsmen of the Mist.

These two names, previously known only to Suna's internal directories, were now globally "Verified." After the defeat at Kikyō Mountain, the Hidden Sand Village had been at its weakest "Uptime." But by relying on these two "New Stars," the village had successfully defended its root directory and preserved its future.

Sunagakure wasn't dead. It had just undergone a radical "Hardware Upgrade."
