Genevieve
"Have you heard the news?" Shai texted me. I raised an eyebrow before snatching the TV remote from the table and turning on the TV.
"Attention. This broadcast is being transmitted to all active viewing systems. Today marks a decisive milestone in human evolution. Through decades of research and controlled advancement, we have achieved the ability to surpass the human form's natural limitations.
This initiative exists not for domination, but for balance, for the optimization of our species. Power will no longer be a privilege of circumstance but a regulated constant. Equality will be established at the biological level.
As this process expands, conflict will diminish. Crime will become obsolete. Death, as it is currently understood, will no longer govern human existence.
A selection phase will begin shortly. Individuals best suited for integration will be identified through precise ethical evaluation. The procedure is non-invasive and free of suffering. What follows is not an experiment but a transition. A necessary step toward a unified and perfected civilization. Welcome to the next era of humanity. Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening."
I closed the TV in shock with a mix of confusion.
I grabbed my phone and texted our group chat, only to find them talking about the news.
Nicole: This is why scientists are so weird.
I laughed at her message.
Shai: Yeah, I know, like how do you do that???? We're just humans.
I replied to her message with a nod.
Genevieve: Yeah, I know, right?
Shai: I heard they're going to pick random people in school tomorrow.
Nicole: Nah, bye.
I put my phone in my pocket and went upstairs to my room. I closed the door and sat at my desk to open my computer.
I searched for the news and clicked on a website with a strange name.
bluecore.com?
"Tired of your boring routine every day? Join the experiment now to have the ability to fight off crimes in this world!" I scoffed at the website description, and my attention flew to the comments.
"Will the experiment hurt?"
"Do we have to pay?"
"Interested."
I scrolled down more until I got to the deepest part of it, and there was a sentence.
"We will find perfect people for the experiment and give them powerful abilities to help our people and stop crimes.
I closed the website and played a game instead.
Elysia
I glanced at the cloudy sky, slowly becoming darker, and the winds whooshing around the area.
The stars sparkled up in the black abyss of the sky, and it looked magical as usual.
I sighed and looked at my watch; it's already 6:23 PM, and Ethan is still not here; he said 6 PM sharp.
I looked behind me and saw my house. I let out a long breath, and I was about to walk back to my house when I suddenly heard a car honk, which made me jump. I turned my back with a frown, but my face softened when I saw Ethan getting out of the sports car.
"Hey Elysia, sorry I wasn't on time; my brother Ivan fought, so I used his car as revenge on him," he said and smiled, showing his beautiful dimple.
"It's fine; thanks for showing up." He opened the car door, and I went inside.
The car's scent hit my nose, and I immediately relaxed from the manly scent, which smelled like a minty ocean. I saw him in my peripheral vision, looking at me before he started the engine of his car.
I looked up at the sky and saw Orion's belt, which has three close stars that always remind me of Shai, Nicole, and Genevieve, my girls.
"Heard about the news?" My attention turned to him as he broke the silence between us.
"Oh yeah, I heard about it. It's pretty interesting."
"Yeah, I know, right? They said that they will pick random people in every school tomorrow." He glanced at me before turning his eyes back to the road.
After minutes of another awkward silence, we finally reached the restaurant, and he parked in a reserved lot. He got out first and opened the door for me, and I held his hand.
We went inside the restaurant and sat near the window, and he raised his arm to call for a waiter.
"Are you interested in it?" He asked, and I looked at him.
"Yeah, of course. I mean, this is the first time that it's actually real." He chuckled, and I just smiled at him.
I took a sip of the water that the waiter gave us, and I glanced at him, causing me to catch my breath when I caught him staring at me.
"You're beautiful; don't hide it." I blushed even more at what he said, and I began to stutter.
"W-what? I'm not trying to hide it, and yeah, I am beautiful, thanks for reminding me." I cleared my throat, and he just chuckled.
Our food finally arrived; his order was a Greek salad, while mine was Alfredo pasta. We began to eat silently, and I took a bite of my pasta.
I grabbed a garlic bread and ate it while looking outside the window, admiring the city lights and the starry night sky.
"Is your food good?" I looked at him.
"Yeah, it's delicious." He smiled at me.
"I don't really know what to say," I added.
"Well, to be honest, me too. I'm too speechless and too distracted by your beauty." I laughed at his corny speech.
"Wow, I didn't know you were corny." A chuckle escaped his lips while his eyes were fixated on me.
"I'm not lying, though." I blushed again, and I heard him chuckle more.
I just shrugged my shoulders while smiling, and I continued to eat my pasta.
We continued talking until we eventually finished our food, so we went home early.
"It's really fun being with you. We should do this again, shall we?" I smiled at him and nodded my head.
"Yeah, it was fun, and sure, let's do this again."
"Just chat with me when you're free." He kissed my hands, and I watched him walk away and go back to his car. I went inside my house, screaming silently while feeling a lot of goosebumps because of blushing too much.
I ran to my room and jumped on my bed. I was about to chat with Genevieve, but I saw her status with a sleeping emoji, so I just let her be and called Shai.
