Genevieve
We walked down the hallway leading to the indoor gymnasium of the school, as I heard the growing noise in the gym caused by the students.
"I heard that if you get picked, they will make you sign an acceptance form to be part of the experiment," Shai whispered to me, and I flicked my tongue, hitting her with a bored glance.
"You always hear something; you should stop eavesdropping on people," I said, which made Nicole and Elysia laugh beside me.
"So how was your date last night?" Nicole jumped into the conversation, asking Elysia about her situation last night.
Elysia squeezed my arm and clung to it. I sighed and focused on the empty stage in the gymnasium.
I looked around the gymnasium, and it was full of students, and everyone was talking about the scientists who were coming today.
"It was so so so good!" She said happily while shaking my arms.
She was about to add something when Ethan suddenly came up from behind her, and he put his face beside her face, really close, which made Elysia freeze in her spot.
He chuckled at Elysia's reaction, and he fixed his posture to greet us.
"Good morning, ladies," he said with a smile, showing his dimple. I gave him a nod as he also did the same when our eyes met.
I stared at Ivan standing beside Ethan, and my face curled into a confused expression.
I kept staring at him, ignoring their conversation, until Shai cleared her throat and made me go back to my senses.
"You good, Vieve?" Shai asked me, and the two were grinning like idiots, which triggered my irritation.
"Yeah, just saw something." I cleared my throat and unconsciously put my hair behind my ears.
"Blub blub." I shot a glare at Nicole. I know what it means, and it's something fishy; we usually use onomatopoeia when we don't want others to get it.
He looks familiar.
"Do you think the scientists are here now?" Shai whispered to me.
I just took a glance at her and shrugged my shoulders.
FLASHBACK
My friends ran from the tagger as she chased us while all of us were laughing and playing tag. You're it
.
We ran and ran until I ran out of breath, so I stopped and fixed my clothes when all of a sudden Xander grabbed my hands, and everything felt like it stopped, like the time suddenly became slow-mo.
We ran fast until Sienna couldn't catch us anymore, and she quit, so we stopped running, and all of us lay on the ground laughing and catching our breath. I looked at Xander beside me.
END OF FLASHBACK
I snapped back my senses when I suddenly noticed all the students had become silent, and my attention turned to the people standing on the stage.
"Good morning, students! As you've seen in one of our announcements, scientists from Redal State Experimental Lab are looking for a person who's healthy, perfect, and suited for the experiment, and it has no age limit, so they are allowed to search in schools." The principal on the stage began to yap, and I turned my gaze at the three people coming up the stage; they all looked like they were 40 years old and above.
The students, including my friends, clapped, and the principal gave them a microphone.
"Hello everyone, we are from Redal State Experimental Lab, and I'm sure you all have heard the news. It does sound scary because this one is finally real, but we are just doing this to stop the growing cases of crimes that have been happening worldwide with the help of our invented power. We have already searched every student in this school, and we only found one perfect for the experiment," one of the scientists said, and he looked at all of the students until his eyes met mine.
Something about his eyes made me feel my blood turn cold at my feet, with my heart beating slowly to the feeling of anticipation.
He whispered to the other two, and the three of them looked at me, so I looked down.
I felt my heartbeat becoming slower, and my stomach felt uncomfortable.
"That girl over there with a high ponytail and side bangs, come up on the stage." I gasped when I heard them, knowing that it's me they're talking about.
I felt all the students' eyes on me as they slowly got away from me, as if I had a virus.
"Oh no, girl," Shai hugged me, and Nicole and Elysia were just worried and in shock while staring at me.
"I don't want this," I said, and Elysia was about to talk, but suddenly I got pulled by two men wearing all black and shades.
"Let me go!"
I tried to free myself from them, but they were too strong.
They made me go up on the stage, and all the students looked at me while the three scientists were smiling at me.
"What's your name, dear?"
"G-genevieve," I began to stutter because of nervousness.
"What a beautiful name, dear," one of the scientists complimented me.
"Congratulations, you are the right person to be the first person to become a metahuman." The man shook my hands, and I looked at the area where my friends were.
They were all looking at me, worried. I took a glance at Ivan, and he looked like he didn't care at all, so I looked away.
They left in silence while the two men guided me to follow them out of the school.
I felt my hands getting sweaty and shaking from the situation.
We entered a black van, and now I'm alone with the three scientists. I sat beside them and kept my mouth shut.
I looked out the window, watching as we left my school, which made me let out a deep sigh.
"Don't be nervous; it won't hurt," the red-haired lady sitting beside me assured me, and yet it didn't help. I continued to sigh.
"Why me?" I asked, and the three of them looked at me.
"You're fit for this, that's all. Your DNA is simply made for this to happen because it can mutate without any harm, based on our study about you," the other lady said, and I glanced at her with a furrowed eyebrow.
"You went into my information?" I responded with a hint of irritation in my voice.
"It is needed; we studied everyone at your school, but no one is worthy there until we found you."
We finally got to the building of the Redal experiment lab, and the three of them got out of the van. I took a deep breath and came out.
We entered the building, and the cold air immediately greeted me. I looked over, and there are a lot of scientists roaming around, some of them holding papers and books.
The redhead lady held my arm gently, and the four of us walked to an elevator, and there she stopped holding my arm.
I saw the man click the last floor button in the elevator. I felt the speed of the elevator, which caused me to feel nauseous, and yet the three of them looked so calm.
My heart began to beat faster when I looked carefully at the buttons of the elevator. The button he clicked seems like it's an underground floor because the button doesn't have a number.
After a minute, the elevator door finally opened, and I gasped when I saw that it was a floor for experimenting. The space was big, and it was filled with computers on one side.
I raised an eyebrow at the sight in front of me.
There were scientists with their desks on the side working on stuff, and in the middle, there was a clear, transparent glass box that could fit a person, but there was a big needle in the wall of the glass, and my heart beat faster than ever.
"You have a week to prepare yourself for this," the man said, but I just glared at him, and the two men pulled me again. We went back on the elevator.
I don't want to be here...
