Nora's POV
I tear myself away from James and bolt through the door.
Mack materializes from the shadows of the house, instantly alert and defensive. If something has the power to harm an angel, we're all at risk.
"Kevin!" I collapse beside him on my knees. A blade is buried deep in his abdomen, and the skin surrounding it hisses and burns like acid. "Oh god." My hands reach toward the dagger to extract it. Angels have healing abilities, don't they? He should recover once I remove the weapon.
"Don't," he groans, batting my hand aside. "That blade was crafted specifically to harm angels. You carry angel blood." He lurches forward, and I steady his shoulders, glancing desperately at James.
"I've got him," James assures me, taking control and supporting Kevin with one arm. His fingers close around the dagger's handle and he yanks it free. The serrated edge tears through flesh with a sickening sound that cuts through the darkness.
"We have to bring him inside."
