"STOP! NO!" I cried out, the sound tearing from my throat. "What?" As I opened my eyes, I realized the room I thought I was in.
I was not.
Broken windows barred with wooden planks. Unrecognizable red stains cover both the left and right walls.
My back hurts, as I leaned forward, grunting off the pain. I propped myself against a dresser. A dresser? Where the hell am I?
The wooden floor creaked as I walked forward drunkenly.
"Agh!" as I tripped over a hole in the floor. My leg throbbed. My head pounded. I hurt. Fuck.
I get up and continue walking to the door, as I reach for the doorknob, a groan from outside stops me.
I wondered if it's an animal. A starving dog? bear? Or I don't know. something.
Thud.
Thud.
Thud.
Footsteps? That's human. Can't be anything but.
A smiled formed on my face. Eager for help for my injuries, I quickly turned the knob, opening the door.
"Hey! Help!"
No Response.
But there was just footsteps. What? It don't make sense.
Then I saw it. A human. Clothes torn, oddly still. But human, nonetheless.
As i slowly walk up to the person, their groan, the similar groan I heard inside the house became louder. With the increase in volume, followed an increase in eerieness.
The groan sounded otherwordly, something in my 22 years of living have never heard before.
"hello?" As i called out the person head tilted to the left, snapping noise seemingly from his neck.
They turned around, and my body froze.
I wanted to run. But my body just couldn't.
I've always been scared, even bullied for it when I grew up. When I saw the face, of this person this was the first time, I felt like dying because I'm scared.
I stared at its face as it walked closer, aiming its arms steadily towards me, A flash of light behind the person blinded. The light was moving as if someone was running with a flashlight, "Duck!"
"What-" blood spilled on my face. The person who had been walking towards me fell, head split horizontally.
"Are you fucking stupid?! do you want to die?!" A woman? As i wiped the cold blood off my face, my right wrist was grabbed and pulled, my body hardly following as i stumble and run at the same time.
"Wh-It hurts to run!"
The woman threw over ledge, landing in a underground tent, "Agh! fuck me!"
The woman jumping in, closing the tent as he fell.
Again she took my wrist, seemingly examining it, "Are you bit?"
"Bit? what… What the hell is going on?"
After being satisfied seeing no bites on me, She grunted, sitting across from me with a reasonable distance.
"I see whats going on. You're new."
New? What the hell is she talking about? "New?"
She rummaged through her bags, throwing me a water bottle and a pill, "New as in you just came into this world. Same as me. I came in about a month ago."
I drank some water, looking at the pill, holding it up, "Is this gonna kill me?"
She shrugged, "Found them yesterday. They're pain relievers. Don't know if they expire or not."
"Better than nothing" after absorbing the pill, "So-So, let me get this right… This is a entirely new world, me and you just… spawned in or? fuck that. More importantly, what did I see back there?"
"Well, I don't know too. They have human-like bodies. But… They don't move like humans. Or look like them. All I know, they kill. I saw one of them kill infront of me. Sinking their teeth into necks. drinking the blood, eating the flesh, celebrating the bone."
I looked down. They sound like zombies. But, zombies don't drink blood, or 'Celebrate' the bone.
Looking back at her, "So what now? Is there a way to go back home? to our original world? or-or are we just stuck here waiting to be killed by those things?"
"I have a group. We have a scientist, or atleast he was in the original world. He's been trying to figure this out, and he makes sense. The stuff he's talking about, it holds merit. I was actually out here looking for loot to support his next project, until I ran into you."
"oh… I'm sorry if i interr-" She held a hand up, waving off my apology.
"it's fine, I wasn't having any luck regardless. Plus I was just about to loot that house where I found you at, but didn't want to get surrounded, so I took you and left."
I nodded, "Well if it makes it any better, There wasn't anything in there. I woke up in there and saw nothing. except a book in the dark corner. I didn't think much of it, it's a book, you know?"
She nodded as well.
Hours later, I look up through the crack of the tent ceiling, it's night. My guess is it's between 9-10 pm. I don't know. Whatever time it is, the nap I took was definitely needed. My legs and head feel better, just thirsty now.
I looked forward, and the woman is as awake as before i took a nap, 'Hey. um do you have another water?"
"No," she gets up, "It's perfect time to go back to base. they can't see well in the dark."
I stand up as well. I hope she intends taking me as well, "Can I come as well?"
She threw me a bag. It was heavy, heard something clinking inside of it, better to not question
"You think I was just going to leave you?" she lifts the ceiling trap, and throws her carried bags over the top, and climbing out afterwards.
I do the same. A brisk, cold gust of air gave me goosebumps, "Oh shit… It's freezing."
The woman had already holstered the bags over her shoulders. It's weird time to notice this but her hair is really nice. Curly, and long.
She turns around, "Let's go, the base is a ten minute walk from here,"
I follow her, no danger, no signs or sightings of those creatures. It's peaceful. Peaceful among a new world. I've never been fully comfortable anywhere other than my own house.
But here, it's different, "What's your name by the way?" My name? Right. I haven't even introduced myself.
"Im… Im… what?"
I can't remember.
I can't remember.
I can't remember.
"Hello? I asked for your name."
"I can't remember." What the fuck is going on?
"One of my group can't remember their names. So we made a new one for him. Jared. No last name, just Jared. I'm going to call you G' until we grant you get a new name."
I already forgot what she had just said. My name. My name is tied to who I am.
She snapped, and I came out my thoughts, "What? yeah, yeah. uh, whats your name?"
"Amabel"
"Was that a name given to you?"
"No, I remembered my name."
Lucky her. She's who she is, carried over the new world.
"Were here."
Walls of what it looks like to be metal walls, ranging atleast 50ft in the air. Spotlights on the perimeter walls, finally hit us. As I covered my eyes from the lights, I heard a opening in the metal walls."Armed?! Bit?!"
Amabel yells, "No! It's me, Amabel. I brought a survivor!"
"Is he bit?!"
"No-For fuck sakes! take that light off us!"
After a couple of seconds, the lights aim a different direction.
"Jason? Jesus, man."
I look up and see a man, who I assume is Jason as Amabel said, in a all black military suit. Hm. They look alike. siblings?
Jason walks up to Amabel, wrapped his arms around her. She did the same. Siblings, for sure. or a weird relationship. I really shouldn't question.
As they unwrap, Jason looks to me, "Who are you?"
What do I say? I don't know who I am.
"I'm… G."
"G?"
"G."
Amabel patted Jason's shoulder twice, and then we all begin walking inside.
"G is the name I gave him. He's like Jared."
"Oh, I just thought he was just some idiot who wanted to seem cool"
As I walk behind them, they talk as if I not there. Oh boy.
As we entered the base, a weird sense of familiarity washed over me. It was amazing, Lights that lit up even the darkest parts, Food that made my mouth water with yearn, and people. Laughter that made me want to as well.
"Amabel, take G to the doctor, I have to close the door."
She nodded, "Lets go."
I follow Amabel to wherever she's taking.
Jason looked out the wild, where he picked us up. His eyes wide with something of fear.
Blacked out heads tilted out behind trees, shaking uncontrollably.
"They were being followed."
