Chapter 31 - Chapter 31 — The Survivor in Chains

When the slaughter was finally over, the slave ship had turned into nothing more than a floating graveyard of severed planks and broken bodies.

Blood covered the deck. Torn ropes and shattered crates were scattered everywhere.

Law stood in the middle of it all, his clothes stained red. His cold gaze slowly swept across the ship, searching for any sign of remaining enemies. There was none.

Moments later, Shachi, Penguin, and Bepo climbed aboard.

The instant they saw the scene, all three froze.

Penguin turned pale and barely managed to lean over the railing before vomiting everything he had eaten earlier.

Shachi clenched his jaw, forcing himself to stay calm.

Bepo's legs trembled as he stared at the destruction in silence.

Then they heard Law's voice—cold, steady, emotionless.

"Shachi. Penguin. Search the ship. If you find any slaves, free them immediately.

Bepo, go to the storage rooms and bring back all the food you can find."

The three nodded at once and moved without hesitation.

Law turned away and headed toward the captain's quarters. He needed information.

The Hidden Prisoner

The captain's room was lavishly decorated with gold and expensive furniture, a cruel contrast to the suffering this ship carried. On the desk, Law found a navigation log and opened it.

As he read, his eyes narrowed.

The ship had come from the West Blue.

Its destination was the North Blue, where the slaves were to be sold to nobles.

Law closed the book slowly.

Just as he was about to leave, he heard a faint sound.

A movement.

He turned toward the source—but saw only a plain wall.

Law stepped closer, watching carefully.

The sound came again.

"…A hidden room."

He activated his power at once.

"ROOM."

The blue, translucent sphere spread across the room. With precise movements, Law sliced through the wall—clean, perfect cuts.

Behind it was a small, hidden chamber.

And inside it… a cage.

A young man lay within, dressed in a torn kimono, his body covered in wounds. His breathing was shallow, dangerously weak.

Law immediately used Scan.

His eyes widened slightly.

Internal injuries. Severe blood loss. Broken bones.

"If I don't act now… he'll die."

Law opened the cage, lifted the unconscious man, and disappeared in a blur—straight back to the Polar Tang.

Before leaving, he gave a short order through the communicator:

"When you're done, return to the Polar Tang immediately. We're leaving this island."

A Doctor at Work

Inside the medical room, Law laid the young man on the operating table.

"ROOM."

The sphere formed once more.

Using both Scan and his surgical precision, Law carefully treated the internal organs first, repairing damage piece by piece. Time lost its meaning. Minutes turned into hours without him realizing it.

When he finally stepped back, the patient's breathing was stable.

Alive.

The young man slept peacefully.

Law left the medical room and found Shachi, Penguin, and Bepo waiting.

"We did everything you ordered," Shachi reported.

"All the slaves are free. Penguin found some treasure and brought it back, and Bepo collected all the food he could find… but it won't last long."

Penguin nodded. "We'll need to buy supplies at the next island."

Law nodded once. "Understood. Shachi, find us a nearby island. Penguin, Bepo—help him."

The crew moved at once.

As the Polar Tang departed, Law stood silently, watching Minion Island shrink into the distance until it finally disappeared beyond the horizon.

He exhaled slowly… then turned back toward the medical room.

Lin Chinjao

The young man was stirring when Law entered.

His eyes opened slowly, confused and wary.

"Who… are you?" he asked weakly. "Where am I?"

"My name is Trafalgar Law," Law replied calmly.

"I found you on a slave ship. You were in critical condition, so I treated you."

The young man struggled to sit up, then bowed deeply.

"Thank you… for saving my life.

My name is Lin Chinjao. I'm from the Kano Kingdom, in the West Blue."

Law's eyes widened slightly.

Kano Kingdom…

He knew that name.

"…Are you related to Don Chinjao?" Law asked.

Lin stiffened, then nodded carefully.

"Yes. He's my uncle. How do you know him?"

Law paused for a fraction of a second, then answered evenly.

"He was a famous pirate of the previous era. Strong—like Roger and Whitebeard."

Lin blinked… then laughed softly.

"Hahaha… If my uncle heard that, he'd probably like you."

Before Law could respond, Penguin's voice came through the speaker.

"Law! We've reached the next island!"

Law turned to Lin. "Can you walk?"

Lin nodded weakly and stood, unsteady but determined.

Together, they entered the engine room, where Law introduced him to the crew.

Lin froze when he saw Bepo.

"…Wait," he said slowly. "Am I still dreaming?

That's a bear… walking on two legs."

Bepo lowered his head immediately. "I-I'm sorry…"

The tension broke, and for the first time since the battle, the atmosphere felt lighter.

Shachi began raising the Polar Tang toward the surface.

A new island awaited them.

And with it—

the next chapter of their journey.
