Bella's POV
Hooves pounded against the cobblestones with urgent rhythm.
My heart lurched as I gripped the whip tighter.
If Lucius tries anything stupid, I won't hesitate to strike back, I decided.
But when he caught up, Lucius simply trailed the carriage like a ghost, maintaining that unnerving steady pace without making another move.
With this menacing shadow following me, it felt like thorns were digging into my spine.
My muscles stayed rigid until we reached the Fairfax family gates, where Lucius finally walked inside.
Throughout the entire journey, he never once looked my way, acting like I was just some random nobody.
But I could sense Lucius's rage simmering beneath the surface.
The more composed he seemed, the more furious he actually was.
He's always been so arrogant - when has he ever been humiliated like this? I thought. Today must have pushed Lucius completely over the edge.
