Kamen Rider Gavv leaped from the alley, his gummy-enhanced legs propelling him upward with surprising force. The vibrant blue and magenta of his armor seemed to cut a striking, almost defiant, streak against the soft Parisian skyline as he vaulted from one rooftop to the next. The wind, sharp and cold, whistled past his helmet. He spotted Dark Cupid hovering gracefully above a bustling plaza, his dark, almost gothic form a stark contrast to the city's warm, inviting tones.
Dark Cupid drew his bow, a cruel smirk visible even from a distance. Black arrows rained down, striking a couple holding hands in the plaza below. Their smiles instantly twisted into bitter scowls, and they turned on each other, their joyous expressions replaced by palpable hatred. Gavv felt a cold surge of determination. He gritted his teeth, pushing his speed, his Poppingummy armor allowing him to bounce between buildings with an elastic resilience that defied gravity. He closed the distance quickly, the world a blur of stone and sky.
He summoned his Gavvgablade, the red sword materializing in his hand with a wet schwing. The grip felt solid, a comforting weight that anchored him. He launched himself high above the plaza, a flash of blue and red against the grey stone. He swung the Gavvgablade in a wide, sweeping arc, forcing Dark Cupid to break his attack pattern and dodge the unexpected aerial assault.
Dark Cupid flapped his dark wings, rising higher as Gavv approached.
"You are just a sweet little bug," Dark Cupid sneered, his voice carrying clearly over the plaza. "You cannot understand my pain."
WHOOSH
A red yo-yo spun past Dark Cupid's head, cutting through the air like a vibrant streak. Ladybug landed lightly on a nearby chimney, her silhouette sharp against the fading afternoon sun.
"Stop this, Kim," Ladybug called out, her voice firm and clear. "You are hurting innocent people."
"I am no longer Kim!" Dark Cupid shrieked, his pale face contorting. "I am Dark Cupid, and if I cannot have love, then no one in Paris can!" He spread his wings, a dark, vengeful angel.
"Chloe's cruelty does not give you the right to hurt everyone," Ladybug insisted, attempting to reason with him. "Don't take her bitterness out on the city."
Dark Cupid ignored her words completely, his eyes narrowing into cold slits. He aimed his bow at Ladybug.
THWIP
He fired. Ladybug dodged the black arrow, swinging her yo-yo to propel herself across the rooftops. Her foot slipped on a patch of loose tile, and she caught herself on a gutter, clinging precariously.
Gavv moved instinctively, launching himself toward Ladybug.
THWIPTHWIPTHWIP
Dark Cupid fired a volley of three arrows, each one a black blur aimed to separate Gavv from his ally. Gavv twisted in the air, his gummy armor stretching as he absorbed two hits. The third arrow scraped past his helmet with a soft CRACKLE. He landed hard on a separate rooftop, the impact jarring him.
Gavv recovered quickly from the impact, his gaze immediately snapping back to Ladybug. She still clung to the gutter, her posture tight with the effort of holding on, her eyes wide as she looked up at Dark Cupid. It was clear she was in a vulnerable position. Gavv prepared to move, his muscles tensing, a plan already forming in his mind. He would distract Dark Cupid again, create an opening, anything to get her safe.
Suddenly, a black-clad figure landed beside Ladybug, his staff extending to support her. It was Cat Noir, his movements fluid and graceful. He pulled Ladybug onto the rooftop, his hand lingering on her arm for a moment too long. Gavv expected them to immediately turn their attention to the villain, to coordinate a counter-attack, but Cat Noir's head dipped close to Ladybug's. His voice, usually so boisterous and filled with playful puns, was low, almost intense.
"My Lady, there is something I must tell you," Cat Noir began, his gaze fixed solely on her.
Ladybug tried to pull away, her eyes flicking nervously toward Dark Cupid, who watched their exchange with a widening, malevolent smile.
"Not now, Cat Noir," she whispered, her voice tight with urgency. "We have to focus on the akuma."
Cat Noir gently grasped her chin, turning her face back to him. "No, I promised myself I would tell you the next time I saw you. It's important." He held her gaze, completely oblivious to the danger that loomed above them.
Gavv watched, frozen in a silent disbelief that bordered on exasperation. What were they doing? There was a villain right there! This felt like something out of a play, not a battle. Dark Cupid, seemingly amused by the intimate moment, drew his bow slowly. He aimed directly at the distracted pair, a cruel smile twisting his lips. He was making no secret of his intentions.
Dark Cupid released the arrow, a dark streak against the fading light. Gavv saw it. His body moved without thought, a blur of motion as he grabbed a Poppingummy Gochizo from his hip, the soft material cool against his armored palm. He loaded the small creature into the Gavvgablade's Gochispeeder with practiced speed. His finger slammed the pink button on the hilt.
[PUSH ME! PUSH ME! GO!]
The Gochizo launched like a bullet, a tiny, colorful blur streaking across the sky. It slammed into Dark Cupid's shoulder with a sharp THWACK, throwing the villain off balance. Dark Cupid roared in pain, his aim completely disrupted. The black arrow, now off course, still flew. It grazed Cat Noir's shoulder, a whisper of malice, before dissolving into a wisp of smoke. Cat Noir gasped, his eyes widening in shock. A bruised, dark black spread across his lips, the color seeping into his skin. He looked at Ladybug, his expression twisting from adoration into pure, visceral disgust, a stark and unsettling change.
"Cat Noir!" she cried out, her voice raw with panic, reaching for him.
Cat Noir turned to her, his green eyes, usually so full of playful adoration, now burned with a cold, hateful fire. His lips, stained black, twisted into a snarl.
"Ladybug," he hissed, the name dripping with venom and disgust. "I… loathe you."
Ladybug recoiled slightly, her face etched with disbelief and pain. "Cat Noir, please, snap out of it," she pleaded, her voice trembling. "This isn't you!"
He grabbed her, pulling her close, his grip uncomfortably tight on her arm. His breath, now tainted with the bitter essence of the akuma's power, ghosted across her mask.
"You're nothing, Ladybug, and nothing to me!" he snarled, his voice rising in a chilling crescendo. "I hate you!"
To break free, Ladybug brought her heel down hard on his foot.
CRUNCH
Cat Noir cried out in genuine pain, the sudden shock momentarily overriding the hate. His grip loosened, and Ladybug seized the opportunity. She snatched his staff from his hand, a desperate act of self-preservation. With a swift movement, she used the staff to launch herself into the air, grappling her yo-yo onto a nearby streetlamp. She swung away in a blur of red, disappearing into the interior of the Grand Paris Hotel.
The emotional devastation hung in the air, a thick, palpable weight. Gavv watched the partnership, once so vibrant and filled with easy trust, disintegrate before his very eyes. The betrayal, though magically induced, was visceral and painful, a raw wound opened on the city's heart.
Gavv stood on the rooftop, the Gavvgablade humming faintly in his hand, a dull thrum against his palm. He watched Ladybug disappear into the hotel, her absence leaving a gaping hole in the fight. Below, Cat Noir landed heavily, his expression still a mask of loathing as he searched the rooftops with a hateful glare. Dark Cupid watched him, a slow, satisfied smile spreading across his face.
"Damnit," Gavv muttered under his breath.
The situation had turned critical with shocking speed. Their strongest advantage, the almost effortless teamwork between Ladybug and Cat Noir, had shattered into pieces. Gavv knew he could not fight both of them alone, not without risking being overwhelmed. He certainly could not risk getting hit by another of Dark Cupid's arrows, a dark thought that tasted like ashes in his mouth. He needed to find Ladybug. She was the only one who truly knew how to fix this, how to undo the twisted magic that now consumed her partner. Gavv turned and launched himself into the air, leaping away in the direction Ladybug had gone, leaving the hate-filled Cat Noir and a slowly recovering Dark Cupid behind him.
Kamen Rider Gavv landed softly in the Grand Paris Hotel lobby, his gummy armor compressing slightly before reforming. Ladybug, who had just swung in through a high window, looked at him with a flash of relief in her wide blue eyes.
"Kamen Rider, thank goodness you're here," she said, her voice strained. "Cat Noir has been hit. He's working with Dark Cupid now."
A shrill voice cut through the air. "Ladybug! Where have you been?" Chloé Bourgeois emerged from behind a potted palm, her arms crossed, looking utterly displeased. "I've been waiting here forever! I almost got hit by an arrow, you know."
Ladybug sighed, a tired sound. "Chloé, you need to evacuate. Kim has been akumatized into Dark Cupid, and he's dangerous."
"Moi?" Chloé scoffed, flipping her perfectly styled hair. " But how could he possibly have a vendetta against me?"
Gavv and Ladybug exchanged a look, a silent understanding passing between them.
"Who doesn't?" Gavv muttered, almost in sync with Ladybug's own whispered sentiment.
This girl had zero survival instincts. She was more dangerous to herself than the villain was.
Chloé waved a glossy poster of Adrien, her voice ringing with self-importance through the hotel lobby.
"Everyone wants this," she declared, oblivious to the rising tension. "He is a super hot guy, and he is obviously hot for me."
Ladybug, her expression tight, muttered almost to herself. "Not according to the poem."
Sabrina, ever watchful, pointed a trembling finger at the poster. She shrieked, a high, piercing sound.
"It's alive!"
Indeed, the poster, initially a flat image, seemed to shimmer. It began to move from behind a pillar, not simply swaying, but walking. Dark Cupid emerged from behind it, his black wings unfurling wide, filling the space with a sudden, oppressive shadow. He fired a volley of arrows, a blur of dark intent, straight at the three of them.
Gavv reacted instantly, the Gavvgablade a red streak in his hand. He slashed at the arrows flying toward him and Sabrina. The impacts CLANGED against his blade. Ladybug, with a practiced grace, deflected the arrows aimed at her with her yo-yo. A dark feather brushed against her cheek. Seeing Chloé frozen in immediate danger, Ladybug wrapped her yo-yo string around Chloé's waist with swift precision. She yanked hard, dragging Chloé, still clutching the poster, out of the line of fire and onto the street outside.
