Chapter 16 - Chapter 16

"I'm… in the same class as those two?"

Standing at the classroom entrance, Midoriya Izuku stared blankly at the most eye-catching pair inside Class 1-A. His expression stiffened, and his shoulders immediately drooped.

The moment he stepped inside, the two people he was thinking about noticed him at the same time.

One of them shot him a sharp, hostile glare.

The other rushed over enthusiastically and began talking to him in an overly serious tone.

Before their exchange could last more than a few seconds, the last student of Class 1-A finally arrived.

Uraraka Ochaco appeared at the doorway, slightly out of breath, and soon the three of them ended up talking together near the entrance.

But Amano Sora wasn't paying attention to that.

His gaze drifted toward something else.

Through the half-open classroom door, he noticed a strange black mass slowly wriggling its way inside—something long, bundled, and vaguely caterpillar-like, dragging itself forward along the floor.

"…That thing," Sora muttered, rubbing his forehead.

Even though he already knew who it was, seeing it in person still made him sigh.

So this was their homeroom teacher.

Aizawa Shouta.

A man who looked like he hadn't slept in three centuries.

Sora glanced sideways and noticed Toru Hagakure staring in the same direction, her head tilted in confusion.

Then—

"Ah! W-What is that thing?!"

Her startled cry immediately drew everyone's attention.

The entire class turned toward the doorway just in time to see the yellow, cocoon-like shape twitch, roll over… and reveal an unshaven face with lifeless eyes.

The man stared into the classroom and spoke in a tired, raspy voice.

"If you're here to make friends and have fun… you're in the wrong place. This is the Hero Course."

He unzipped the sleeping bag, stood up, took a long sip of the milk carton in his hand, and continued flatly:

"It took you eight seconds to quiet down. That's slow. You lack rationality."

Then his gaze swept across the room—briefly pausing on Amano Sora—before he added:

"But since you noticed me at all, I suppose you barely pass."

"I'm Aizawa Shouta. Your homeroom teacher. Nice to meet you."

"…Huh?"

"EHHHH?!"

The entire class froze.

Homeroom teacher?!

This exhausted, unkempt man?!

No one dared question it aloud, but disbelief was written across every face.

Ignoring their reactions, Aizawa turned around and walked away.

"Change into your gym uniforms and report to the training field."

With that, he left.

The class stared at his retreating back for a moment before finally moving.

Quirk Apprehension Test

"Quirk… assessment?"

Once changed and assembled outside, the students listened as Aizawa explained the rules.

The familiar set of tests appeared:

50-meter dash.

Grip strength.

Standing long jump.

Endurance run.

Repeated side jumps.

Sit-ups.

Softball throw.

Eight standard physical tests.

But—

"These tests usually ban Quirks," Aizawa said coldly. "That's outdated thinking. Here, you're allowed to use them freely."

The students stirred in surprise.

"This is U.A. We don't pretend everyone's equal."

Then his eyes turned toward Amano Sora.

"You. First place in the entrance exam."

Sora blinked. "Me?"

"How far could you throw a ball in middle school?"

"No idea," Sora replied honestly. "Never cared."

Before Aizawa could respond, Hagakure raised her hand.

"Um! Amano-kun's record was eighty-two meters."

Aizawa nodded, unimpressed.

"Step forward. Use your Quirk. Don't cross the line."

Sora walked into the throwing circle, rolling the softball in his palm.

Around him, whispers broke out.

"That's the guy who destroyed Robot Zero…"

"I heard he used its head as a spinning top…"

Bakugo glared at him, eyes blazing with competitiveness.

Todoroki Shoto also shifted his gaze toward him, interest clearly sparked.

Sora exhaled slowly.

Let's just see how much control I have now.

He drew his arm back.

Golden lightning flared around his body.

Then—

BOOM.

The world blurred.

A shockwave rippled outward.

And the ball was gone.

Gone completely.

No one even saw it leave his hand.

"What… happened?"

Several students blinked in confusion.

Aizawa, however, calmly checked the reading on his phone.

Then he raised it for everyone to see.

"2,352 meters."

The field went dead silent.

"…That's a joke, right?"

"Over two kilometers?!"

"That's impossible!"

Yaoyorozu Momo stared in disbelief.

Todoroki narrowed his eyes.

Bakugo's teeth ground together.

Sora looked into the distance, watching the tiny black dot fade from view.

"Hm. Guess the timing was still off," he muttered. "Lost momentum when breaking the sound barrier."

He turned back calmly and rejoined the group.

"You're amazing!" Kirishima exclaimed.

"Not really," Sora replied honestly. "My Quirk isn't meant for strength."

The nearby students nearly choked.

That's not what 'not meant for strength' looks like!

Aizawa's Reality Check

The atmosphere began to relax—until Aizawa spoke again.

"Well then. That was entertaining."

He glanced over the class.

"But I suppose I should tell you something first."

His expression darkened.

"The student who places last in this assessment… will be expelled."

The air froze.

"…E-Expelled?!"

"On the first day?!"

"That's insane!"

Panic spread instantly.

Uraraka looked pale.

Hagakure clenched her fists.

Even Midoriya's face drained of color.

Aizawa's eyes were sharp and unyielding.

"The world isn't fair. Disasters don't wait. Villains don't give second chances."

"If you came here expecting fun, you chose the wrong school."

"This is U.A. High. A place where only those who push forward survive."

The field fell silent.

Even the wind seemed to stop.

Amano Sora watched quietly.

Unlike the others, he wasn't shaken.

If anything, he found it… familiar.

So this is his way of testing resolve.

His gaze drifted to Midoriya.

Aizawa's eyes lingered there just a moment longer than on the others.

Sora smiled faintly.

So that's it… You're testing whether he's worthy of standing here.

The test had begun.

And for Class 1-A—

This was only the beginning.
