Chapter 35 - Bonds of Blood

I stopped laughing and turned to my son, my gaze softening as I studied his small, earnest face. "Jared… let's not look for Daddy, okay? Mommy can raise you all by herself." My words were gentle, but my wolf instincts flared at the thought of protecting him, guarding him from a world that didn't understand the bond he carried in his veins.

"Grandpa said that it's not right for my daddy to avoid taking responsibility," he said, his voice calm and mature, like a tiny Alpha asserting himself. "He has to be responsible toward you and me."

I froze, caught between astonishment and a surge of pride. How could he carry the weight of such understanding at his age? The words tugged at the maternal instincts I carried deep in my bones, and my heart thumped with a mixture of awe and sorrow.

"Grandpa said that he will grow old one day, and he might not be able to take care of us anymore," Jared added solemnly.

Tears threatened to spill, but I fought them back. My father had been thinking ahead, worrying about our pack, our survival, even when he wasn't present. My jaw tightened, and I placed my hands over his small ones. "Be good, Jared. Mommy will become strong and take care of both you and Grandpa." My voice was soft, but every word carried the weight of my bond, the promise of protection, dominance, and love.

"Okay. I'll grow up fast and be very tall, so I can take care of Mommy and Grandpa too!" His words made my chest ache with warmth, and I watched him return to his dinner with renewed determination. The tiny Alpha of my heart, growing fast, destined to carry our lineage.

Saturday morning arrived, crisp and quiet, the air carrying the faint scent of the pack stirring in the city. I had hoped for a day of rest, a moment to recharge my human and wolf energies alike, but my phone shattered the illusion.

"Anastasia, why aren't you here for overtime?" Felicia barked sharply.

I rubbed my forehead, a hand resting over my eyes as I muttered, "I have to? Today?" My tail of frustration flickered invisibly, an instinctual twinge at the absurdity of pack politics.

"We're releasing the newest line soon. It's customary to work overtime during these weeks. Come on over now!" Her tone brooked no argument.

I hesitated, then asked, a protective spark in my voice, "Can I bring my son to the office?"

"All right, sure." Felicia relented, recognizing the pack bond between mother and pup.

I leaned down, pressing my lips to his soft hair, whispering, "Jared… let's go. Come with me to the office for overtime." Even half-asleep, his nod was resolute, a testament to the pack instincts he had inherited.

We descended into the city streets, the scent of dawn filling our senses. I hailed a cab, my hand instinctively brushing over my son's shoulder, a subtle marking of dominance and protection. I had bought bread for breakfast, and the city hummed beneath us as the cab wound its way toward the office. By the time we arrived, it was 9:50AM, the day stretching out with challenges and responsibilities ahead.

Grace was carrying a tray of coffee when she saw Jared, and her face lit up with astonishment. "Wow! Oh my goodness! He's too cute!"

I allowed myself a soft smile, pride swelling in my chest like a surge of moonlight energy. My little one wore a black T-shirt and jeans, his black hair falling across his forehead in a way that made him look both vulnerable and fierce. His large, jewel-like eyes blinked at the world with curiosity, framed by long, curling lashes, the features of a wolf with human form exquisite, alert, alive.

I tightened my grip on his hand, a silent vow of protection. The world would challenge him, would challenge us, but our bond was forged in blood and instinct, stronger than any rival or Alpha. As I led him toward the workstations, I felt the surge of pride and possessiveness this little pup, my son, carried the blood of our pack, the legacy of my strength, and the claim of a lineage that no one could ignore.

And in that moment, with the morning sun spilling over the office, I knew we were ready to face whatever the world or another Alpha might throw at us.

"Hey, little guy, did you get your eyelashes curled when you were still in your mother's womb? They're so long and curly!" Grace cooed, kneeling to Jared's level. Her words dripped with admiration, but I felt a familiar surge of possessiveness flare within me. My wolf instincts bristled at anyone fawning over my pup though I trusted Grace enough for now.

I lowered my head over the stack of documents, pretending to concentrate, but I couldn't help the silent growl of approval in my chest. That little host of mine, Jared, had already inherited the power of our pack he was my bond, my legacy, and he carried our strength in every sharp blink of his jewel-like eyes.

Grace reached out, fingers gently pinching his cheeks. My little wolf bristled instantly. "Miss, can you stop pinching my cheeks? It hurts."

"Sorry, sorry," Grace said quickly, retreating her hands. "Your face is just so squishy, I couldn't help it. I'll stop now."

I sighed, amused despite myself. Even with all his growing strength and the bloodline coursing through him, he was still just a child in appearance yet the instincts he carried were unmistakable.

The phone rang in my office. Felicia's voice was brisk. "Come to my office for a bit."

"Grace," I said, handing over my protective gaze, "I'm going to Director Evans' office for a moment. Watch over Jared while I'm gone."

"Of course! No problem." Grace flashed an 'okay' sign, and I felt my shoulders relax slightly.

Down in the underground carpark of Bourgeois, a low-key but powerful Bentley slid to a stop. Elliot stepped out, the Alpha of our pack in every sense. Even as he walked, his presence radiated dominance; the world seemed to bend subtly to his will. He had just received a call from Larry about an urgent document requiring his mark, and instinctively, he knew the pack was still grinding away in the office.

Larry had offered to bring it over, but Elliot's natural inclination was to handle matters personally. The elevator chimed, doors sliding open as he ascended to his office, his gaze dark and alert even in the dim lighting.

Meanwhile, Grace kept Jared entertained, her laughter and chatter a gentle shield. "Jared, promise me you won't wander anywhere. I'll be right back with this document, okay?"

"Okay!" he responded obediently, his small tail swishing behind him an echo of the wolf instincts stirring even in his tiny frame.

But it wasn't long before nature called. Jared opened the office door and raced toward the bathroom, only to find it marked 'under maintenance.' His little nose wrinkled, and he bounded to the elevator, paws pattering silently against the polished floor.

The doors dinged, sliding open, and there he stopped, raising his head. His tiny wolf eyes widened as they met the tall figure before him.

"Sir, where is the bathroom? I need to pee," he asked, his voice polite but firm.

Elliot froze. The child barely reached his thighs, yet there was something in the way he stood his small shoulders squared, his gaze unwavering that triggered a flicker of recognition deep in Elliot's pack instincts. The Alpha's dark, measured eyes softened just slightly as they swept over the boy, reading not just the plea of a child, but the presence of his own bloodline, unspoken and undeniable.

For a heartbeat, time seemed to pause. The office lights reflected off Elliot's sharp features, and Jared stared up at him, unaware of the storm he had just unleashed. A surge of raw energy passed between them, subtle but potent the invisible tether of pack, bond, and blood that neither of them could yet name.

I felt it too, from my distance, my protective senses flaring. My heart tightened as my son's safety and his inheritance of our lineage became unmistakably intertwined with the Alpha's presence. Jared was no ordinary child he was a fragment of our pack, of power, of dominance and in that elevator, the world seemed to whisper the first hints of a bond that would shape both our lives.

Even in that fleeting moment, I knew: the day our worlds collided fully was just beginning.
