Through out that day, I didn't see Alpha Hades but the healer came by on his order. I left her check me and she was gone. The next day, everything felt normal.
After everything that had happened—the attack, the investigation, the tension hanging over the fortress. I had expected the world to feel different and myself.
Instead, the sun still rose. The servants still moved through the halls. The warriors still trained.
Life continued as if I hadn't nearly died. As if someone hadn't tried to kill me.
As if I hadn't spent half the night thinking about the way Hades had looked at me before leaving the room. I groaned softly and rubbed my face.
No.
I was not thinking about him today. Not if I could help it.
A knock sounded. Before I could answer, the door opened. Cassian stepped inside. Immediately, my mood lightened.
"You're alive." He frowned.
"I've survived much worse than paperwork." I laughed.
"That bad?"
"You have no idea."
He ran a hand through his dark hair.
