For a moment, I forgot how to breathe. The servant's words seemed to hang in the air.
It sounded strange and impossible

My mind rejected it immediately. He wasn't supposed to get injured. He was the strongest wolf I had ever seen. The terrifying warrior everyone feared.
The Alpha's Blade.
The man who looked as though he could walk into a battlefield alone and leave standing. The idea of him being hurt felt wrong and I didn't want to believe it.
"What happened?"
My voice came out sharper than intended and the servant swallowed.
"I don't know, my lady."
I was already moving before she finished speaking. The book I had been holding fell forgotten onto the bed. I rushed past her and into the corridor.
"Lady Iris" The servant called after me but I didn't stop.
