I didn't need to look to know. The air changed. That sharp, fresh earth and pine scent hit me like a slap same one that used to cling to my sheets for days after he left. My whole body locked up.
Daniel… The real Daniel walked in, scanning the room. Same height, same build as Jax, but the face… fuck. More handsome now, sharper jaw, faint scar above his left eyebrow like I did remember. FBI suit, tie loosened like he'd already had a long day. He spotted the table, froze for half a second, then his eyes slid past Jax and Desmond and landed straight on me.
Our gazes locked across the restaurant.
Time didn't slow down like in movies. It just fucking stopped hurting for one second, then slammed back twice as hard.
He recognized me instantly. No hesitation. Those hazel eyes widened, then narrowed, then flicked to the table where "Skyler" was currently laughing at something Jax said.
Daniel's mouth moved silent curse, probably then he started walking. Straight toward me.
